Go for it, thread's not getting used for anything else these days.
Alright let me split this into three parts.
General Backstory
So we know Salem was mulling about as a witch while the new humanity was getting civilization restarted. I was thinking that in this universe, she might try to teach people how to use Magic, if only because they approached her and asked. Unlike Ozpin who gave his magic around allowing them to use magic like him. She tried to see if she could mold Aura to be like magic. However, it didn't work. One problem with it was that it was like trying to get a goat to produce spider silk. The new humanity just didn't have the organs and power required to do it. Until mankind discovered Dust.
Magical crystals of Darkness that could be activated and controlled through the light of Aura. Through it, Salem was able to create a new form of Magic, Dustcraft.
Unlike the Magic she, Ozma, and the Maidens use. Wielding the power of darkness inside of them to create elemental phenomena and more. Dustcraft is using Aura to activate and control the magical energy in the dust.
Of course, there was another problem. Normal people couldn't see Magic or Dustcraft, even with Aura. Sure they could see and use dust. But once the energy in the dust is transformed into 'something similar to magic' it would disappear in the eyes of people.
(Think of it like how normal people can't see Nen or Curses in JJK and HxH.)
This is because when the Gods genocided humanity, Magical Beasts and those of similar kind took over the world. And when the Gods decided to try again with humanity, they created another layer of reality beneath the one humans exist on both figuratively and literally underground and booted all the magic there.
(Think of it like the Reverse Side Of The World in Fate.)
Dust is what forms of magic that manages to bypass the layer of reality. Of course, if magic can still escape, what else could?
Now while it's true that due to these layers between Magic and humans, humans can't normally see magic. However, by putting a person in a magically dense environment, or hitting them with magic. They're able to see past the Masquerade the Gods made. Thus allowing them to witness the old power humans used to wield.
And so Ozma came back and found Salem. And like in canon they built a kingdom and had the people worship them as Gods.
As knowledge of them and their kingdom spread, people of all walks of life would enter, including magical.
Mages from the old world that managed to survive the genocide with their magic intact who lived till that age would go, finding hope in that their art could be passed down.
They pledged allegiance to their King and Queen and turn their magic into Dustcraft passing it down to those they chose before they die.
The kingdom would soon turn into a nation and then a country, one of Aura and Magic, its height nearing the level of power the nations of the old world. Explorers would bring back old magical knowledge, and treasures that survived and bring them back to the nation.
They collected this power and knowledge of old and new into a Pillar, a Great Library, one that would grow higher as more and more knowledge was amassed.
Until tragedy strikes and the Black Goddess betrayed the Green God. She would plunder the Great Library and turn it to ash. She would kill any trace of the old world, including Magic.
Overnight, the great nation decayed into the plaything of a tyrant. Until it finally fell. With the Infinite Man at the helm, a resistance was created, though they were unable to save the nation itself, Salem's efforts to take the Relics and rule the world were stopped, and the people of the great nation, though unprotected as of now would be able to create a new and better nation in the future.
The families that practiced Dustcraft fled and removed themselves from society. Instead of creating a global secret society. Just like in the past, however, the Mages would soon centralize. creating the Mage's Association.
Of course, Salem wasn't gone for good, as an immortal, she survived, and grew her forces. Over the ages, Ozma and Salem would engage in a shadow war over the control of Remnant.
Until 15 years ago. On the Island known as Patch, Salem was finally defeated, for good. On the Island Salem sought to wake up a Great Elder Grimm, a monster so powerful that the world would surely need to band together to kill it for good.
Ozpin, Raven Branwen, Summer Rose, Julius Arc, Jeanne Arc and Satoru Gojo. These people who were considered the strongest and best in what they did all fought the Black Witch on the island, and using a custom artifact Ozpin managed to seal her. However, the battle did not go without cost, Jeanne Arc and Julius Arc sacrificed themselves to defeat Salem. And Summer Rose used her life to petrify the Great Elder Grimm and put it to sleep.
However, despite the greatest destructor Remnant being gone, that didn't mean that everything's fine and dandy. Salem's defeat has created a power vacuum. And many are willing to try and take her place.
Monsters that want to bring the World Of Magic to the surface, Dark Mages chasing an undefined goal, Vampires, and even normal humans.
And it goes without saying that Salem's machinations aren't over, even sealed her Cabal is causing a ruckus with the goal of freeing their queen.
White Huntsman
No need I already went in-depth with my vision of the story. Though I'm thinking of changing the Team name SWNB(Snowbelt) to SWNB(Sunbeam) to relate to JYPR(Jupiter).
Blue Magic
Pending titles also being Blue Exorcist, Blue Executor, Blue Mage, and Blue Sorcerer. Tell me which sounds better.
As you may have guessed from the prologue and my power system post this AU is kinda a mishmash of concepts from other settings. Jujutsu Kaisen is the most prevalent because this story, Blue ________ is a direct cross between the two and is actually the first story I thought of even before I decided to make it part of a multi-fic AU.
It takes place in Atlas with Whitley being the main character. After Weiss leaves for Beacon and he's pretending that he isn't stewing in jealousy, a new girl shows up in his classroom. A transfer student from Menagerie, whose also a Faunus, Fox Faunus to be precise, (she has cute fox ears) with amber hair. Her name is Kohaku Abe.
She's shy, and reclusive and doesn't really try to get to know people, in fact purposefully avoiding attention. As a new student Whitley is chosen to show her around the school and how things are done.
They don't really get close to each other until he hears her play an instrument. Instantly captivated by the way she plays he stays late at the school to listen to her play.
This becomes something of a routine, and despite playing the same thing, it never gets boring for him.
Slowly the two bond over a month as Kohaku plays and Whitley listens. Whitley tells her about his family life and she figures out that he's jealous of his sisters for having the freedom he wants. And he learns that she isn't as passive as he thinks.
Soon things take a turn when she asks him to go somewhere with her, which he realizes might be a date. And then he realizes he's pining over her.
He goes and has a good time with her, but things take a turn for worse when she suddenly collapses and a medicine bottle falls out of her purse.
Apparently, Kohaku is contracted with an unknown disease she developed at a young age, her family moved to Atlas to get better treatment but it wasn't working and was very expensive.
Whitley reassures the family that since he's the son of the Schnees he'll get her the best treatment in Atlas but when asking permission from his father he rebuffs him only deciding to spare some money since she's his classmate but not enough to pay for better treatments.
Whitley wallows in his weakness until Gojo and Megumi appear, telling the Abe family that they have a treatment that can fix her all better! For free! They just have to do it alone.
Whitley smells a scam and tells Kohaku not to trust them. And she doesn't, running away the moment they go to a shady non-descript place and say shady shit.
Whitley is at school reminiscing about his memories with Kohaku, until Kohaku appears, saying she needs to play, until suddenly she falls unconscious and a monster appears from her, at first invisible to Whitley until the sky turns black and the school is suddenly covered with a barrier.
Megumi appears, saving Whitley from an attack and explaining what the monster is. A Spirit, a being created from the energies of Aura, life releases. most of the time these energies simply decay and don't do anything. However, at times strong remnants of Aura attract each other and become this blob of Aura. It isn't alive, but at the same time is, like a virus. It's simply a mass of emotions. Normally these blobs of energy should simply decay or rip themselves apart unless there named.
A name has meaning, it is the basis for an identity, having an identity means having consciousness. Megumi believes that when she was young Kohaku found one of these blobs of emotion and named it. The newborn Spirit attached itself to her draining her Aura which is the cause for her sickness.
Megumi says he could separate the spirit from her using a talisman but he needs to get near her. unfortunately, Kohaku has a powerful Aura. Which is bad since that means the spirit itself has a powerful aura in thanks to feeding of her for most of her life so the talisman is to weak to work. Despite not having a semblance it destroys most of the school in a single attack. But Megumi notices something about it's behavior and attack patterns.
It’s a newborn, right after getting a name it attached to Kohaku and gestated in her like a baby in the womb. It has never had a single thought until this moment. Where it's relying on its instincts to fight. (This is also why it doesn’t have a semblance, cause it has no personality.) It doesn’t even realize it's hurting Kohaku.
Gojo appears and decides to help after the schools been nuked since he’s skilled and powerful enough to separate the spirit on his own. However, the spirit’s so powerful that even Gojo’s having a little bit of trouble, in addition the spirit despite having no thoughts for most of it's life is very intelligent.
Finally the battle ends with Whitley entering the fray bringing Kohaku back to consciousness which allows her to control the spirit long enough for them to separate the spirit. In return getting impaled and his side gutted out. Of course he survives cause Gojo activates his Aura and he gets healed.
When he wakes up he learns that it's been a day and that Gojo and Megumi are Exorcists and that they hunt Magical beasts, Spirits, Ghosts, and just about any being that people can’t see, and isn’t human or Grimm.
Megumi wants to erase Whitley’s memories but Gojo being Gojo says he likes romance and gives Whitley a choice. He can have his memories erased and never see Kohaku again or he can join them and stay with her because currently there training Kohaku to gain control over her spirit partner.
Whitley obviously chooses the sane choice of being an Exorcist. So Gojo gives him an assignment to do over two weeks and a cover story for why he disappeared.
Since the school’s been destroyed Whitley has an easy excuse as to why he wants to enroll into the private school. There he meets the first-years, Kohaku, him and no one else.
Turns out Exorcists are in short supply nowadays.
So there partnered up with a second year student, not Megumi, no instead a guy named Midorime Kurokami, a thug that dislikes Whitley because of him being rich and having an haughty additude.
That’s the basic idea for the first arc. I also have ideas for what the Disaster Curses replacements will be and a tournament arc.
Whitley Schnee
The gist for Whitley’s arc in this story is him becoming a better person by getting out of Jacques thumb, cause in canon after Jac is gone Whitley goes hero mode and helps the main cast. This is a similar approach, taking him out of the toxic environment and slowly removing the grooming Jacques did till he’s finally his own person and not what Jacques wanted him to be.
It's also why I want to keep Weiss’s arc incomplete in Beacon. So we could contrast Weiss who’s still trying to be perfect and the leader of the SDC and thinking she has freedom when she’s still under Jacques’s thumb to a younger but more emotionally mature Whitley whose already thrown those ideas and aspirations away and became a better person because of it. He’ll give Weiss harsh advice that she won’t understand till she matures as a person.
Kohaku Abe
I don’t really have her character finalized but I recently read the Bleach manga for the first time and I think i’ll have her be similar to Orihime, except you know, good. Like Orihime she’ll start of as passive and meek but gain her own inner strength and how to use it, unlike Orihime.
Midorime Kurokami
Midorime is thug. That is the only explanation you need.
Okay seriously. This dude is created when my brain farts out ideas. He has like the most 13-year-old backstory I can think of.
You ready. Okay so just like Cinder he’s Mistralian who was part of a not-so-legal orphanage, just like Cinder. (I was actually thinking about Cinder and him being from the same orphanage and Cinder taking care of him when he was younger.) Just like Cinder he’s bought by some rich asshole and shipped to Atlas and just like Cinder he escapes his employer (though probably not through death). Unlike Cinder, however, he meets up with a gang who decides takes care of him. Since he didn’t have a name, a menagerian in the gang decides to name him Midorime Kurokami (Which literally means Green eyes, black hair, his facial features, not very original.) And giving him a metal bat.
So he lives with the gang till he’s 14, and since his education is gang stuff. One day, a vampire attacks the gang and kills all of the gang members.
Midorime gets his gets ripped out and his intestines all over the floor, however, his rage at seeing the people he consider family die in front of him allows him to activate his Aura and gain his semblance (allowing him to move his body as long as he has Aura like a puppet) he picks up his metal bat and smashes the vamp’s head in, over and over again. While his guts are hanging out.
After smashing the body so much that it’s less human and more like a squished tomato some exorcist's arrive, one of them being the principal and owner of the school. Midorime survives and is healed and gets adopted by the principal head.
As for his character I was thinking that he’d have traits from his thug/gang background and Exorcist background. He still speaks and uses thug language. And acts like an idiot and thinks he himself is an idiot but he’s actually very smart, being able to use and understand different types of battle styles, Dustcraft techniques, and theory. But also math, English, science. He’s someone who‘d
d be incompatible with Whitley at first but grow to be a great friend later. I’m also thinking of having him as the team leader in the beginning before Whitley takes the reins.
Also shit, so much writing, so much time it took. I was going to write a plot outline for Red Monster and more but it’s already so late. I guess that’ll wait till tomorrow.
Small spoiler though, Red Monster’s about Ruby.
