I distinctly remember Nagato/Pain being mentioned as having killed Hanzo's family and followers and such.

Which chapter was that in?

(I think there was a 'which chapter/episode thread, but I can't find it. Or was it in another fandom, not Naruto?)

Remember when fanfics had the Fourth Hokage's name as Kazuma Arashi?

Where did that even come from anyways? Anybody remember?

It came from the time when Naruto was learning to summon toads, I'm not sure if it's a mistranslation or not but the last person to sign the scroll was believed to be "Arashi".

Ah. I seem to remember hearing about that, now. I think it was the TV show rather than the manga that apparently had some legible letters on it. Not sure how true that is, still.

Pretty sure it was Kazama Arashi or Uzumaki Arashi.

Kazuma was never a thing that I remember.

I was thinking Kazuma. But I may just have sCRYEd on the brain, too!

On another old reminiscing note...I remember noting way, way back in the day that Sasuke's Mangekyo Sharingan had an inverted colour scheme compared to every other MS. All other MS had a red iris with black tomoe, but Sasuke's was black iris with red tomoe (this even shows up in his EMS form, where Itachi's design is black while Sasuke's part is still red). I always thought it was going to actually be relevant as a plot detail further on, and...it never...was...

Nope, Sasuke is just special.

Just like always.

Now that the series is behind us, does anybody else think that not having Jiraiya brought back as an Edo Tensei zombie during the 4th Ninja War was a missed opportunity? Naruto would have probably ROFLstomped him, but it'd have been a great character moment imo for the sensei to see how his student has really surpassed him.

I'd have to disagree.

While I do think Jiraiya should have been brought back (he was one of the greatest ninja of all time) from a Character Development Stand Point, he wasn't needed. Especially when you taking into account the variety of fights that already followed that particular theme: Gaara vs Rasa, Kankuro vs Chiyo, Kakashi vs Zabuza, Shikamaru, Ino and Chouji vs Asuma... Not as emotionally impactful, but there was also Oonoki vs the 2nd Tsuchikage and Darui vs the 3rd Raikage. With Naruto and Bee forced to sit out the early parts of the war, Jiraiya wasn't needed for that psychological factor except to, perhaps, shake up Tsunade, who hadn't taken to the field until the Real Madara showed up.

Naruto's fight with Ay was to showcase that Naruto was, if not the 4th Hokage's equal, damned close to being so and thus had already surpassed Jiraiya (really, the Pein fight showed this as well) and, regardless, was already the most powerful shinobi in the world (or pretty damn close to being so). Naruto and Bee confronting Tobi and the Edo Tensei Jinchuriki, not to mention meeting his resurrected father, put paid to him being the absolute best. As much as I like Jiraiya, he would have been superfluous at that point. Besides, in order to use Edo Tensei, you'd need a sample of the person's DNA. Considering where Jiraiya died, it was unlikely that Zetsu would have been able to recover any of his DNA. Likewise, a resurrected Konan didn't appear because of the way she died.

True, but I would have liked for Jiraiya to have seen just how strong his last apprentice had become. Of course, on the other hand, Jiraiya had already entrusted the future and his hopes to Naruto; he didn't need to see it because he was near-certain of the outcome.

'I need a title for the next book. Let's see - yes, I got it.... The Tale of Uzumaki Naruto. Perfect.'

I won't deny it would have been nice. Nice, but ultimately unnecessary.

I forget. Was there ever any material that could block chakra vision?

I was just thinking that SecOps would be really difficult in a town that has the Hyuuga in it, unless you have some method of preventing the Byakugan from seeing through walls (which I'm fairly sure it can).

Directly stated, no. That there might be some way to block the Byakugan... Well, it's possible.

The only thing that is certain is that stuff under the ground is harder to keep track of and that Hyūga are limited by the fact their brains are human and can only focus on one thing or a few at a time.

The Chūnin Exams fight between Naruto and Neji and Neji's training where he missed some birds that were there have showcased that very well.

Edit, final detail: while I don't like Hinata as a character, her Byakugan is no less good than Neji's. I mean, hers doesn't have the precision and zooming capability Neji's possessed and still doesn't do so well looking at the ground, but her range is stated as a number multiple times his at the same age or younger and (head-canon), she can multitask better.
(She does have natural talent. The problem is her proverbial lack of a spine...)

I guess the same arc also shows that there definitely has to be limits. Not just range, but presuuming Hiashi has similar range as jonin Neji does, there's no way he couldn't have cottoned on to the Sand/Sound invasion if it was truly that pervasive.

I haven't bothered reading/watching Boruto at all, sooo...

Given Naruto's whole speech to Neji about getting rid of the Caged Bird Seal when he becomes Hokage, does he actually deliver on his pledge?
