Should I crosspost?

Is there a point to reposting stories into a forum that is already available on a main site like fanfiction.net or archive of our own? Apart from the whole naked fishing for commentary for that writerly dopamine rush, wouldn't readers be able to read ahead anyway? I recognize that plenty of our members already crosspost to other writing forums like SB or QQ.

The subforums are called Previews for a reason, after all.

Already uploaded sections usually can't be arsed to be changed anymore, though since most stories are unfinished once things have caught up then the function for improvement happens again.

...

Look, all us fanfic writers are reply junkies, a'ight?

If not, maybe reposting some old dead fics can get the creative juices flowing again.

Although I did just discover TFF now has an NSFW section, so... :p
Some content first on QQ just aren't available on FFN for various reasons.

I would say reposting it into a forum once it's already public on FFN or AO3 is pretty pointless.

At least with TFF, the idea is to get early feedback BEFORE publishing your works.

Fair enough. The great peril of a fanfic writer is that every new idea entertained is potentially the death of yet another unfinished project.

Even if this place is dead, you might still get some more feedback, though if it's an obscure series you might not get any replies :p

It's interesting you mention the NSFW section. I guess the other advantage is to increase the amounts of place you have your content on by one, because there's at least a couple of NSFW fics I can think of that have been removed off of FFN, but are still available here.

My own take on it is forums are designed for if you want feedback and can take criticism... post to a forum catering you your story, ask for feedback, and even send messages to friends telling them it is there for feedback and a advance read... then once done post it to the bigger archives...

My main issue is a lot of authors never bothered doing that last, and as such a number of stories have been lost over the years to dead forums and link rot.

I haven't been posting anything on TFF because somehow I got the idea that this forum expects only new things never seen elsewhere. I can't even rehost stories already published on other forums.

I mean, you could at least post a link to any new stories you write, so people know to look for them?
