Harry Potter A Crossover idea

I've always been of a mixed impresion regarding HP, on one side, the story seems amusing, on the other you have a background that is slightly less desireable than a tannery.
I Don't like the wizarding world, not only is filled with self important people, but it is rushing, head first, to its destruction. (let's face it folks, secrets always are exposed, probably at the worst of times too)
The idea that they consider memory magics ok and have profound issues with killing magic...

Probably it is because I am a big Ultima fan and the WW strikes me as a modern version of Moonshade (not a fun place at all).

So, while this looks like a rant, and sounds like a rant, it is not (only) a rant. :p

The idea has been with me since I read Harry inverse at the anime addventure, give Harry a competent set of parents, expose it to magic and voila.... (fun, fun).

Rather than using Slayers (as amusing as *that* would be, it is not my idea, wouldn't feel right to use it) I am going to use Ultima, some part after U7, part two. After a hipotetical destruction of The Guardian (no Ultima ascencion folks, I can't stomach that pice of filth). My idea would be to have Nicodemus (one of the top notch arch mages in the land.... probably the top notch, guy used to play games with higher entities) find Harry in the deep forest, accidental magic and a bit of bad luck to get that result.

After noticing both that the neglect and abuse the kid's suffered are not exclusive of his *short* forray in the deep forest, and the kid's considerable magical reservoir, Nicodemus offers appenticeship to Harry...

The core of the idea would be having a Harry that is not only a proeficient mage (well, more or less) but one that's been 'raised' under the eight virtues, particularly the one that matters the most to mages... Honesty, respect of truth.

Only issue here is the time difrerence between worlds, which means for every decade in britannia only a year on earth would pass (mroe or less).
This means it is going to be a considerable more mature Harry that's going to attend Hogwarts (though not as bad as some of those Harry beat Voldie and traveled back in time)

So, the story would tend to deviate from norm and put it in conflict with a lot of people, the good and the bad. Specially with the diferent worldviews.

Negotiating the magics is not that complex. Britannian magic depends on three elements, the reagents, the gestures and the words of power to affect the Aether and produce the result. Hp magic seems to replace regeants for a foci, the wand, and probably uses something else (which would mark the difrerence between the magical and the muggle). in simple terms it means Birtannian magic might not be restricted (The Something else might be needed to create measurable effects or to make the study worthwhile, but at the same time you have the Xenkan Monks...)

so, yrah, I want to write it, and yes I have a love for the unusual crosses (all my fics are one in one way or the other) .

So... how does it sounds so far? think it is worth it?

Hmm, sounds good but it reminds me a lot of Shezza88's "Harry Potter And Ancardia" (I think that's what it was called, it had 'Ancardia' in the title anyway).

Well, I managed to find the fic, seems the author had an issue with FF.net (sadly not too uncomon)

Hmmm... yeah, there will be some similarities, but I am going to work with a cosniderable older Harry and am going to try not to fall in the game fic conversion typical probs (say the excesive numbering).

Aditionally, I am thinking in making Harry's tuition to be seen flashbacky, rather than expose readers to a decade of hell on... I mean education :p
Also keep in mind that the ultima setting is after the defeat of the Guardian (the final villian in the last triologies of games) so, things are a bit more laid back (within reason).

Still, the maturity issue worries me a bit. I am going to introduce a considerably more mature Harry, mentally, I'd say midteens. even if the cronological POv would make it decade, I figure I can shave a few years due to his somewhat limited interaction with the real world (little questing for him)

As one of (along with Disruptor) the primary authors of the Harry Inverse thread(s) I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Personally, instead of Ultima, I'd like the Bastard universe, but that's more because I'm more familiar with it.

Well, the only complain I have about Harry Inverse is the lack of updates (this is my not so sublte way of asking an update, should it be possible ;))

You know, I am in a similar position regarding Bastard!, I know next to nothing of it. (yeah, I really should get my hands on it, but seems like I never have the time to do so lately).

One thing, I am a bit concerned about coping Harry Inverse, in at least certain things. so, as to avoid misunderstandings, maybe you'd like to eye the chaps before posting (or give the more broad plot a look over).

I'm probably the biggest Bastard!! expert around, but I know little to nothing about HP.

There IS a small problem, though - recent issues of Bastard!! have a power level that makes Dragon Ball Z look small and weak. We're talking monsters who blow up entire solar system just by flying near them, and Dark Schneider launching around 200 spells per second without even having to pronounce the incantation.

Things are really getting out of hand...

EDIT: If you want a peculiar and/or darker universe, there's a few choices:

-Dorohedoro. In it, magic is cast by means of a 'smoke' that is produced by mages' bodies. Every magician's smoke can have one and only one effect. For example, Noi, one of the main characters, can literally regenerate an entire body from just a severed head in a few seconds.

-Kudanshi. It's actually a manga set in a MMORPG called Parabellum. It has the usual plethora of RPG classes, including wizards. Things can get pretty violent, as Parabellum is set to allow mutilation of character models.

-Bastard!! was mentioned.

-Berserk has some magic in it, though it's more a matter of talking with spirits.

-Mahou Tsukai Tai: Magic User's Club is another choice, if one feels like it.

-Mahousensei Negima!, duh.

-Orphen: Scion of Sorcery. :p

Among videogames:

-Star Ocean 2 and 3. Heraldry and Runology aren't excessively hard to master.

-Tales of Phantasia and other Tales games.

-Fire Emblem. Harry could fit VERY well in the FE world, since magic requires a lot of studying and most mages in it are scholarly sorts. Go Canas!

-Final Fantasy Tactics. Spells in Ivalice actually require an aria to be chanted. Fits well with Harry's own magic.
