Until recently, Shinigami never understood why the disaster kept happening. Now they are a bit more aware of how the dimensions work, the similar planes of existence both Hueco Mundo and the Dangai exist in, and how both expand and shrink in seemingly random intervals. How large shifts can lead to spillover or incapability of travel between the planes.

They now knew why every so often over the course of hundreds of years Hueco Mundo would breach into the human world. The sky would be filled with the presence of a location deeper in Heuco Mundo than any have traveled before, a realm where unnaturally powerful hollows usually hid and waited for this particular event. Laying dormant until the roughly month long period of time when they were free to do as they pleased.

It wouldn't have been nearly as much of an issue if the timing for this particular event could be predicted, or better still the particular location could be determined for where this breach would occur. But unfortunately the nature of both the Dangai and the Hollow's realm was just too unstable to nail down any such precise calculations.

Even then it still wouldn't be as bad if the Dangai gates still worked while the breach occurred. It would take time sure to get the proper forces in place to guard the human world until the breach naturally closed on its own, an interval that usually took around a month. But it would still be a far better thing than being cut off entirely from the human world until the gates regained enough stability to allow passage.

Because of this, whenever the breach happened, it wasn't unusual to find any human settlement it had formed over to be completely wiped out, the Shinigami caught off guard by the occurrence and left completely unable to back up any forces in the area. Proper countermeasures just couldn't be made for an event they had no way to foresee and had no means to fight when it happened.

This time however, it appeared things were going to be far worse. Usually the breach formed over small settlements, or over the ocean or in the middle of nowhere. Since the last time it appeared however, Humanity had created much larger places of commerce than ever before. Worse still, the breach was larger than before, Hueco Mundo didn't just spill over into the human world this time, Soul Society itself was facing a crisis on its own turf now.

Then again, perhaps not everything was lost this time. Great minds were located on both sides of the breach this time that might prove much more capable of combating it, and it wasn't as if this particular city would find itself completely undefended. Right now it was firmly under the protection of a single substitute shinigami and his allies.

Perhaps Karakura would be the first place to survive All Hollow's Eve.

Yeah, I was expecting this to pop up soon enough.

IÆm going to assume that this takes place several months after the Fullbring arc since the only October/November in the timeline was Ichigo fighting and arrancar and later when he was in a coma. Though the events of the last few battles could be changed and result in Ichigo still having his powers. At which point this could occur a few weeks after the arrancar war or in one of the subsequent years.

Is the starting point October 31st or is that the final day? Having the start on Halloween would probably be more dramatic and meaningful, both for the reader and the characters. And the starting date would have to be a coincidence otherwise it'd imply that the event should be predictable to some degree since itÆd occur on the same day each time around.

Some ideas I brainstormed:

The spatial disturbance created by All HollowÆs Eve causes reishi to become visible to the human eye, meaning that everyone can see the world in the sky, regular ghosts, the hollows running around as well as any shinigami. The same spatial disturbance completely cuts off Karakura Town from the rest of the world. These together end up causing terror and confusion among the populace which is only worsened when they see IchigoÆs groups get involved with whatÆs going on. Going with the original image, they might be driven to drastic measures to end it all i.e. human sacrifice.

The attacks on Karakura will likely have to be sporadic events, at least the large-scale attacks, otherwise things will progress so fast that month-long period becomes redundant.

It could be that Tessai gets involved this time and acts as the exposition fairy. We donÆt know much about the Kido Corps but weÆve seen them open and close the Senkaimon and use spatial kido, so itÆs possible that this event is something that is actually under their jurisdiction.

The location in Hueco Mundo could be the deep underground, far beneath the Forest of Menos and possibly the origin of those quartz trees which might be significant.

This idea could be combined with the concept of the Wild Hunt, a folk myth about a group of phantasmal, spectral group of huntsmen who race along the ground or the skies. A concept thatÆs actually being used in Tomas the BetrayerÆs Lifted Up.

I also discovered whatÆs called Walpurgis Night which apparently occurs on the opposite day of All HallowÆs Eve and related to witchcraft. WouldnÆt be involved in this story but itÆd make for an interesting alternate idea or a theoretical sequel.

Depends how you spin this. I gave it a core framework to go with, what time in the series it ends up happening or how things end up happening is up to the particular writer.

The concept I was coming up with however was that initially, nothing happens. Big old world opens up in the sky, and the heroes are stunned that absolutely nothing is going down.

Then people start disappearing. They realize that because of the situation, the timeframe for hollowification of normal spirits is DRASTICALLY increased. Konso doesn't work either thanks to the spacial disturbance. Normal humans are quickly becoming more spiritually aware as people who suddenly can see the sky for what it is keep cropping up. Powers suddenly start cropping up much more than before. It's almost as if every soul under the sky is becoming a more appetizing meal for hollows.

Naturally there would be a few scraps along the way, but the story would have to be more focused on the actual mystery of the situation and trying to reduce the amount of damage they take. And then on that final day, All Hollows Eve, that's when the actual assault begins. After all, the feast can't start until the meal is properly prepared. :snigger:

Would also have taken this time to focus more on eldritch abomination sort of hollows rather than the actual ones with a mind. Oh a few of those could crop up initially, trying to take out the strong people so the feast can go unhindered, but their defeat ultimately leads to the terrifying 'They're coming.' Gotta have the heralds drive fear into the hearts of those who will be consumed. :sisi:

Considering a timeframe was rough. One could have it happen during the arrancar arc, taking advantage of the Hitsugaya rescue squad being in town for extra fighting force. Maybe have it thought that Aizen is behind this and plans to use this to create the key. More ideally though it might as well take place at some point after or in the Fullbring arc, depends how you want to go about it. There you could maybe take advantage of arrancar... 'allies' I suppose.

I'd actually avoid using the Wild Hunt specifically because Tomas is using it in Lifted Up, best to avoid the 'copying' allegations right off the bat. Sides, there are plenty of myths that are easy to tie into this. Sleepy Hollow for one thing. Get some headless horseman up in this bitch.

Loving some of those ideas though, particular the part where they can't escape from under the sky either. Not that they'd want to, but it drives up the fear on the human side, which is always fun. Seeing the sky or not is up to interpretation, I think it's more viable to have it actively turning people spiritually aware so they CAN see it rather then they all see it from the start, adds some progression to this. Getting into cults and what not as the fear of the situation drives to a fever pitch, maybe one of the newly empowered becomes a sort of savior could help drive the situation even further up the wall.

Really depends how you want to progress things, there's a lot of material to work with here. :sisi:

As for Walpurgis Night, that could work for an interesting spin on what happens when the DANGAI breaches instead, for an alt spin on things. That or Hell for giggles. :sisi:

Ah, I miss the days when idea contributions were a regular occurence. -_-

The All HollowÆs Eve is an event caused by the Elder Hollows. These are hollows which have existed since the dawn of humanity and were among the first souls to be corrupted. They feasted for millennia upon the souls of the dead and then their fellow hollow, eventually evolving until they became the first Vasto Lorde and lost their insatiable need to feed.

However just because they did not need to feed didnÆt mean that they did not want. They had noticed that souls possessing spiritual power were far tastier and that this was further improved when they were in the throngs of violent emotions, reflected within their power. It was at this point they made a decision and ventured deep into the heart of Hueco Mundo and chose to abstain from feasting on souls. This was to allow those with spiritual power to pass it downs to their sons, increasing their numbers and power instead of repeatedly sending them back to near extinction.

Instead they choose to commence the All HollowÆs Eve, breaking down the barrier between the living world and Hueco Mundo after a certain length of time over their chosen area. A storm caused by the spatial disturbances would trap the humans inside, killing anyone who attempts to cross it whilst preventing them from seeing the outside world. The reiatsu that spilled across the breach forced their powers to grow whilst they are simultaneously sent into the pits of despair by their impending deaths.

The Elders reached a point where they became never-before-seen monstrosities and they could corrupt the minds of men however they pleased. The souls that were unable to be purify and instead became hollows were stolen away and forced into servitude to further their plans. With each repeated occurrence of All HollowÆs Eve, the Elders and their minions only became stronger and more numerousà

Some backstory on how AllÆs Hollows Eve came about which the Shinigami could only guess at since no-oneÆs ever been a part of the event and survived.

Depending on how the writer goes about it the hollow minions, who would probably have some type of title, could either be completely original monsters or creatures loosely based on scary story/myth characters i.e. werewolf, jack oÆlantern, Frankenstein, headless horseman etc. Emphasis on the ôlooseö otherwise itÆd probably come across as quite comical. Mythical creatures in general might be a good option too.

I'll probably come up with a potential plot summary some point soon.

Some nice spins. Again, depends how you want to roll with it. Personally I've become rather fascinated with some of the old Viking lore thanks to Hitchups, so throwing in some stuff loosely based on that might raise some intrigue quite a bit. The world ending snake, the six legged horse, and the wolf fenrir, all of which spawn of Loki might all be intriguing options to roll with.

Going with the herald option certainly helps add a sort of framework for developments for this particular plot. Certainly better than all attacks for the entire timeframe or nothing until the end. Most likely they've developed a system of taking over the town quickly near the start of the event, removing as many humans from their bodies as is reasonable, have those spirits now develop into hollows, which will consume the rest and become delectable morsels for their 'masters'. :snigger:

Unfortunately the fact that Ichigo and Co are in the town changes things a bit, so they have to change their approach.

Also solidifying a reason for the long timeframe is probably also a good idea. I'd actually suggest that the initial breach of Hueco Mundo is actually something that does happen naturally, gives a good framework to build off of why things developed to the scale it did despite these guys not always having been this potent. However add in a tidbit that the breach itself is too unstable for something as potent as the Elder Hollows to naturally pass through.

Perhaps because of their great age and the amount of time they've spent in Hueco mundo, attempting to leave it is something that cannot be done lightly. One could even say they've been in Hueco Mundo so long they've become a natural part of it. Or maybe it's the other way around, Hueco Mundo is the way it is and exists because they came into being.

Creatures like Rudobon of the Sands and the Executioner who appeared to be partially made of the Heuco Mundo Tree's may be initial teasers of these particular monstrosities. The Perpetual Night, Heuco Mundo's moon, the neigh endless sands, even the forest of menos, all of those may be a factor only because these creatures exist.

Regardless, the basic point is they cannot simply pass into the human realm, and must make the breach so large that Heuco Mundo and the Human world are basically indistinguishable from each other to be able to actually pass through. So during the almost month long period, they focus their energies on causing the breach to inflate in size as their energy and Hueco Mundo's natural corruption alters those below making them a more appetizing meal. Ultimately the breach inflates until on the last night it's nearly impossible to tell where the Human world begins and Heuco Mundo ends.

And then, the feasting commences. :ph43r:

The Elders: There are three. They lie at the heart of Hueco Mundo and their bodies were the seed that bore fruit to an whole world within the empty dimension. One has the body of the cold night and his power keeps the world and its moon suspended within the emptiness. One has the body of the white sands and its power is that of the world's desert. The last has the body of the bone trees and the tendrils of its power are rooted throughout the entire world.

Simply put, we've got a hollow made of darkness with gravity powers ala Blackbeard, a sand hollow who can do some Gaara/Crocodile madness and a hollow made of rock trees and uses them like Miroku Amagi and Kaguya Kimimaro. These are running with the nifty idea that Hueco Mundo came after these guys arrived so it reflects their powers. Hollows like Rudobon and sand-guy could have touched upon the power of the Elder's without realising which changed them fundamentally, turning them into far weaker models.

Given their unusual bodies, their masks would probably serve as their weak point though they wouldn't be outright immune to damage since that'd be rather dull, imo.

The Legion: There are many. These are the hollows that the Elders collected and forced into servitude with each Feast. Most of them are insane without no noticeable intelligence but are still powerful and completely obedient to their masters. There are a few however who gained the Elders' favour and were granted greater power and intelligence to act as their heralds.

The monster wolf with incredibly strength and ferocity, the eight-legged horse with unmatched speed, the corpse-eating eagle that births the winds, the hideous giant that freezes with a touch, the world-eating serpent with an immeasurable and the terrible dragon that breathes cursed flames.

All beasts taken from Norse mythology which has always been my favourite, Greek being a close second. Alternatively even the Elders could have a Norse theme, likely based on the gods, and you could tie-in Barragan's unusual appearance as someone on his way to becoming an Elder.

I'd presume actually the three would just be absurd regenerators, so essentially they're apparently invulnerable. However, the key to defeating them where none have before would be Fourfold.

1. They've expended huge amounts of energy ripping the breach that wide, so while defeating them in Hueco Mundo would be next to impossible, in this scenario it becomes far more plausible.

2. There has to be an upper limit to their regeneration, all the heroes need to do is deliver enough damage to the beasts fast enough, and all of a sudden the blows start to take their toll and in their absurdly drained state begin to stick.

3. These guys have, essentially, never fought something like a captain or around that level before, so initially they would not be taken as threats till the damage starts to get too great.

4. Clearly if the beasts start getting careless, their massive size and wide scale attacks could easily start ripping each other apart.

Combine these three aspects, throw in Tessai's Kido, Yoruichi's Shunko, Isshin's absurd Getsuuga which actually isn't garbage, and Urahara's bankai, implied to be a vampiric stamina drainer sort of deal (Which on top of their energy expenditure just to create this scenario is ONLY going to help our hero's beat them), and they have a very real means of victory provided they play their cards right. It's going to be a freaking Herculean effort, but the means of victory is plausible provided you play these key cards properly in the narrative.

Perhaps their masks evolved so that they became a part of their body. They would look like an ideal target but when hit it's revealed that it's practically an accessory for them. Bit of a kick in the teeth for the protags.

So ultimately exactly like Runuganga, who got literally sliced completely in half from the head down to his... whatever you call the sand in the bottom part. And even though the mask was sliced no damage was done. Well, until Ice was used anyway. :snigger:

To drive up the stakes it might be a good idea to have the home crew essentially taking the last remnants of the heralds initially during the final confrontation while the big boys try to handle the Elders, but though they do massive amounts of damage on them, they pretty much lose the fight and are unable to put up enough resistance to win on their owns, driving up just how potent they are. So both sides are really devastated now, so even the tired but victorious home crew has a chance to do something here, particularly if the big boys manage to pull some last vestiges of strength to play support.

Could make the last part a fun team battle in the disguise of a one on one final showdown for all cases. Could also play to both father son pairs depending how you spin it here. :sisi:

This sounds boring. You've given nothing to make this sound like it could make an interesting story. It's just another bunch of fights against monstrously powerful foes with some random mystery thrown in.

Boils down to execution on that part honestly. Depends on how all the cogs ultimately mesh, and how you develop things down to the ultimate conclusion. Like I said, the majority of this is building the framework for what is, essentially, a fairly time constrained filler arc with an incredibly localized story.

No overarching plots here, no stretching out the events far past the point of viability, just a quick little jaunt in a potential expansion to how specific mechanics of the verse work. Hell, if I had my way, there would be no developing powers or training either, they have to fight with what they have like a sensible writer would between the arcs to showcase what they have before advancing to new better forms. Really framework building is something only those interested in the actual mechanics of a particular world work, which granted is terribly limited.

Story wise sure there's nothing terribly epic so to speak, but it has got something that a lot of writer's neglect these days. This is an actual story that could very easily be feasibly finished rather than left to die like so many other fics with either an abrupt conclusion, or none at all. Something with a gradual buildup and a premade end.

Developments and interactions, the real heart of the matter, will boil down to ultimately the writer's intent. And let's face it, the only way most tend to look for fics these days is the pairings, so if we don't go into romance too many lose interest too quickly. :snigger:

Fights and powerful enemies alone wouldn't make a good story. That's all that's been discussed so far but I don't think that's where the meat of the story would be. This is only the setting and background after all.

Personally, I'd focus on the fact that there's 100'000 souls or more trapped inside their town. The supernatural is suddenly going to become a very real thing for them, family and friends will turn into monsters, there's something unseen influencing their thoughts in a bad direction and the feeling of impending doom will be present throughout. It's one big recipe for disaster.

The main cast aren't gonna be unaffected either. Most of them are still teenagers and would be susceptible to the stress of dealing with the hollows and the humans. The scenario provides chances for interesting character development and interaction.

And you could, y'know, contribute an idea or something, zb. ^_^

The human side of things with all the panic likely to go on in this scenario is probably one of the more interesting bits. After all, they're suddenly and for no known reason completely cut off from the rest of the human world.

Food sources, while technically you could argue would last the full month with the usual stockpiles in stores, the thing is the people don't know how long this will take so there's going to be great concern over that.

People are also disappearing because some mook hollows aren't going to follow a schedule and detecting them with the spiritual shenanigans going on is next to impossible.

People are seeing huge amounts of damage crop up as the actual fights go on when they can't see why.

And worst of all there are crazies who keep cropping up, saying they are seeing massive holes in the sky.

Then they start developing abilities, and naturally thanks to the stress of the situation and no one having any idea what's going on, a cult will likely form based around the hole in the sky and ruled by those who developed particularly nasty abilities.

With the relatively simple premise like this, there's a LOT of room to take advantage of the situation and come up with some interesting side plots to also develop. Granted, hard to see where they'll go. Bar messing with Ichigo's sisters, which leads to utter rapestomp, there's not going to be a sort of cult, abilities or not, can do unless you give them something absurdly broken.

Still it adds to the chaos and stress of the situation and could lead to some very interesting character bits for our main cast as the start to slowly break down over the pressure. This isn't something they can just swing their sword at and it'll go away after all, this situation is dire, and people are dying and there's next to nothing they can do about it. :sisi:

I think the end of the Fullbring arc would be ideal for that kind of scenario. I had the idea of using an alternate version of that arc being the starting point, intermixed with foreshadowing for the breach like the other shinigami being unable to enter the Dangai. Then near the end of the battles or right after, the breach opens and the storms starts which captures everyone's attention.

Some or all of the Fullbringers take the opportunity to escape and the protags decide not to chase them at the moment. Of course, this backfires horribly in the future and the remains of Xcution start taking advantage of the chaos to expand their influence over the town. It'd fit Tsukishima's messed up personality, if nothing else.

Oh god, Tsukishima as the head of a cult would be glorious.

Hmm... Actually with powers becoming more active thanks to the breach, Full Brings in general might get a boost. Certainly with the town effectively 'becoming a part of Heuco Mundo' similar powers to Chad's, which got a boost specifically because he went to HM, might undergo a similar change depending how you spin it (Ignoring that silly 'ours are fully unlocked' reveal anyway)...

Tsukishima could seriously become a massive threat in these circumstances. Doubly so if Ginjo still dies and now he's on a revenge kick. :ph43r:

That's basically what I had in mind. :sisi:

And whilst Ichigo's group will be doing what they can to protect Karakura, not everyone would understand what they are and what they're trying to do. Tsukishima would definitely capitalise on that and turn people against the protags. I imagine Giriko and Yukio as his accomplices since they're the ones with the most outstanding abilities (bar Moe, in a sense) and the ones who come across as more villainous than the rest.

Indeed, would work well to tie the human's fear aspect of the plot directly into the lead characters. How it goes down ultimately depends how the FullBring 'arc' ends in this scenario, and hell, a few even could be allies to aid this situation. Riruka and Jackie being the obvious answers.

I want to say Moe too, but unfortunately he's so bro he's going to follow Tsukishima until he starts getting absurdly deranged. He might even have to betray him to stop him from going too far.

How far? Well, the natural conclusion to cults forming is of course the attempts to use sacrifices to solve their problems. And who better than the daughter of what many of those will visibly see as a shinigami the monsters are so clearly after. Good thing those shinigami were so busy with the monsters, no one was around to take the only one of the bunch without powers.

Ichigo's going to flip his shit when things start going down. :snigger:

Though that's going to have nothing on Isshin. They better pray Yukio's hiding things in game skills are up to snuff otherwise they're in for a whole world of hurt. :ph43r:
