Arranged: Kei x Motoko

I was wondering if the dynamic of Hinata would be changed if Keitaro was arranged to marry Motoko by their respective families. Coming to live with her, and being forced to marry would change the dynamic of Hinata house. Anybody who wants to write it is welcome.

Think there's already a a fic of epic proportions on FF.net which explores this concept. "A different life" by crosseyedbutterfly. :) Essentially a rewriting of the entire series... :eek:

Nothing saying other fics like that can't be written.

Yes. No one is saying that another fic can't be done. Just that, in terms of a 'challenge', you can say that someone has already done it before the challenge was made. Understand? <_<

A challenge idea should ideally be a concept that has never been done before, or at least the predecessors screwed up.

That and the writers here will be hard pressed to match said story.

Unless some parameters are laid out to make the challenge vastly different from the direction "A different life" is headed, no point there, I am afraid... B)

This picture adds more to the thread than your post. Please put some thought into your posts or dont bother posting. <_<

On topic, the challenge states that he would live with her. It could be made AU where she never went to Hinata Sou and instead continued living at the Aoyama dojo. Just my 2 cents. (Of course, "A different life" is also AU.... stop looking for holes in my arguements damnit! There are no holes. :unsure!: )

Just had to get in one last post.

True, although Terdwilicker also said "and being forced to marry would change the dynamic of Hinata house", so we kind of assumed that he would be moving with her to the Hinata, in which case it's already been done.

Still, it would be kind of interesting to have Keitaro forced to stay at the Aoyama instead of trying for his dream of Toudai. In which case, while Keitaro might not terribly mind getting married to Motoko, being forced to give up dream of Toudai (although the reason FOR that dream already have gone up in smoke) would definitely make him less then pleased.

Well, I'd never seen a story where he was arranged to marry Motoko. Now I have.

Arranged marriages are odd because the couple already has the support of the parents and are encouraged to take things to the next level. So rather than sneaking off to do stuff without the parents knowing, they're put together for that specific purpose. And since there's familial obligation involved, some of things which dissolve marriages can't happen. The effect is subtle.

Since Keitaro is much older than Motoko (she's 15 at the start of the anime and he's 20), the families would probably insist on a long engagement and a chance for them to get to know each other before the ceremony, as they lived at Hinata Sou. She's a respectful girl, and he's a clumsy young man. Knowing they're intended for each other, like AYA, would make things a little different. Kitsune wouldn't get away with the frequent fondling, Naru would be a bit more restrained, and Shinobu would fret but have fewer dreams of stealing him away, instead ending up teaching Motoko cooking and housework early on.

I'll read the fic and modify the challenge so its either relevant or drop it altogether.

Hmm, well, that is slightly different, in the fact that you're saying that they'll be engaged. "A Different Life" has Keitaro and Motoko married immediately (due to somewhat strange circumstances), instead of being in an engagement.

Also: I have successfully concluded the challenge to write a fic where Keitaro ends up with Mitsune AND I explained why it would work, emotionally. Not bad, eh?

Ahh, I see.

I haven't gotten around to reading all of your fic yet, I'm a super-lazy person in that regard. Still have several other fics that I really need to get around to reading... when I have time. ^^;;

Then I'm sorry for spoiling the ending. I handled it nicely and left a degree of doubt in the reader's mind before Kei finally tells her who he loves. Make a little time. Its not that long a story, when all is said and done. Just 67 pages.

You know, I have an idea similar to this one, but with some diferences.

First, the marriage was planed since the beggining of XX century by Motoko and Keitaro's ancestors to unite the Shinmeiryu and the Urashima style, but because certain 'curse', neither family could have male offprings for many generations... until Keitaro was born.

Second, Motoko is still Motoko. She have heard of the arranged marriage, and because of Hina, she knows about Keitaro, but her attitude toward men is the same. She only agreed to all this because she was expecting a strong man. But, after meeting Keitaro, she would be disapointed. Only after getting to know him better, she would change her point of view uppon him.

Third, Keitaro is still Keitaro. That is, he is totally clueless about the marriage. Only after going to Hinatasou is that he learns about it. But he won't like it, because the promise he made 15 years ago. That, and Motoko's constant beatings for falling over the other girls, or trying ot peep on them while they are on the onsen. Like Motoko, her opinion on her will change over the course of the months.

Fifth. Everithing about them being engaged is keept on secret. They just don't want the rest of the girls to know about it. Especialy Motoko, since she thinks her image would be ruined if other know about her being engaged to a 'man' like Keitaro. Only both of them and Haruka would know.

And last, Motoko is 15 at the begining of the manga. If my memory doesn't deceive me, the legal age to get married in Japan is 18 for men and 16 for women. That means they wouldn't get married until she turns 16.

This is my idea, but I don't have the talent to write it. And even if I could do it, is almost sure I'd write it in Spanish.

*nods* It must be hard to write in a foreign language. I'm impressed people can communicate with a second language as well as many of you do. A long time ago I made a decision: Option
1) I could learn another language and speak it okay but halt my studies in English, or
2) I could learn English really well and master it.

I went with option 2, which is why I'm a writer. Thanks for your response.

According to the LH character bios page here, Keitaro is only 3 years older than Motoko...he's born in 1979, she in 1982, so unless that source was defective to begin with...He's still older, but the age gap is less...

Plus, I could have sworn watching some tv drama which claimed that it was possible to get married at 15...unless I mixed it up with South Korea.... :unsure:

Article 731 to 737 of the Japanese Civil Code stipulates the following requirements:

? ? The male partner must be 18 years ofage or older and the female partner must be 16 years of age or older.
A person who is under 20 years of age cannot get married in Japan without a parent's approval.
This one is definetly going to be enjoyed by you guys:

Most people related by blood, by adoption or through other marriages cannot get married in Japan.

The use of "most" is very interesting... :snigger: You mean there have been exceptions? I have never seen legislation worded so loosely... :ph43r:

Article 725. The persons mentioned below are relatives:
(1) Relatives by blood up to the sixth degree of relationship;
(2) Spouses;
(3) Relatives by affinity up to the third degree of relationship.
(Degree of relationship)
Article 726. The degree of relationship is determined by computing the number of generations between relatives.
2. As between collateral relatives the degree of relationship is determined by the number of generations ascending from one of them, or his or her spouse, to the common ancestor, and then descending from such ancestor to the other.
(Relationship by adoption)
Article 727. As between an adopted child on the one hand and the parent by adoption and his or her relatives by blood on the other, there arises the same relationship as between relatives by blood as from the day of the adoption.
(Prohibition of marriage between relative by blood) (27)
Article 734. No marriage may be effected between lineal relatives by blood, nor between collateral relatives by blood up to the third degree of relationship; however, this shall not apply between an adopted child and any of the collateral relatives by blood on the side of the adoptive relatives.
2. The provision of the preceding paragraph shall also apply even after the relationship has terminated in accordance with the provision of Article 817-9.
(Prohibition of marriage between lineal relatives by affinity) (27)
Article 735. No marriage may be effected between lineal relatives by affinity. The same shall apply after the relationship by affinity has ceased in accordance with the provision of Article 728 or Article 817-9.
Interesting laws, no?

727 and 734 are very interesting...

So, according to that Keitaro could not marry Kanako, ever. It also means that in A Different Life, Keitaro and Motoko would be barred from marriage as they are semi-distant blood relatives, 6-7 degrees separated, but blood just the same.

6-7 degrees away? Then according to this article there should be no problem.

Like i said... interesting. :p
