Battle Moon Wars (???????????, Batorumuunwaazushirogane?), or known as Battle Moon Wars?, is a PC-made series of Super deformed Tactical RPG games created by Dojin soft developer and publisher Werk in 2005. Its popularity in Japan has given rise to a number of Battle Moon Wars games. The series has a basic similarity to the Super Robot Warsá series and its Super deformed looks, as well as taking its crossover concept, though it has overshadowed Battle Moon Wars due to its huge fanbase in Japaná and in other nations, as well as its presence in the Japanese video game market for some time.

The game uses the crossover of Type-Moon's visual novel and anime series, including Tsukihime and Fate/stay night with several original characters made exclusive by Werk. Their involvement in the series are covered as Acts.

This looks relevant to our interests :)

And the translation looks complete? Oh Well, I'm going to check it out.

Edit: Its complete! Also hongfire might be a good place to look. Cough.

Technical Info:
The game does not need to be run in Jap Locale. It helps but is not a must. It runs in Windows 7/Vista but you need to:
1) Enable compatibility mode for XP (I used service Pack 2)
2) Run config in the directory and select the top left action and accept the change to enable fullscreen mode. Otherwise it does not run at all.

PM me if you have any questions or check the translators forum. Do note that the translators forum has some critical information.

Gameplay:
What stats to raise?

HP is straight forward, so I won't explain what it does ;p

SP is for casting Spirit which have an unlimited range if not self targeted and do not cost any move. A character can use multiple different Spirits in a turn but not the same spirit twice. Also Spirit cannot be used after you have moved the character

EN is for using Weapons/ARMS (ie to deal damage)

Power/Magic: Most characters only use one of these stats to calculate damage with the notable exception of Saber and Rider who use Power for regular attacks and Magic for their noble Phantasm. Look at the Weapons and check if the Icon is that of a Sword/Staff.
See http://bmw.seiha.org/viewtopic.php?t=215 for more info.

Quick: Affects chance to hit/evade. Is calculated with the hit/evade stat for the actual figures.

Tough: Affects damage received. Is calculated with defense stat for actual figure.

Skill: ??? I think it affects Critical Rate.

Will: Activates Traits that grant bonuses and the ability to use Weapons. Other than other Traits that grant will when conditions are satisfied (ie Rhythm Sense = +1 Will per dodge/nullification of damage), will gain is affected as such:

"Character" has been changed to "Strength" with a letter ranking. Before it was Very Strong, Strong, Normal, Weak. Now it's A+, A, B, C.

All it indicates is the Will gains a character gets.

==============

All characters gain 1 Will when an enemy dies.
They gain 3 extra Will if they deal the finishing blow (IE, 4 total).
All characters lose 10 Will when they're Reloaded.

"A+" characters gain 2 Will when they deal or take damage, or when an ally dies. They lose 1 Will when they miss.

"A" characters gain 1 Will when they deal damage, take damage, dodge, or an ally dies.

"B" characters gain no Will from anything but enemy deaths.

"C" characters gain 1 Will from doing damage, lose 1 Will from taking damage and ally deaths.

If they deal/receive 0 damage, they get nothing.

For example, if an enemy deals damage to Phantasmoon (A+) and she counterattacks, killing it, she'd gain:
+2 Will for taking damage
+2 Will for dealing damage
+1 Will for an enemy defeated
+3 Will for dealing the killing blow
=======
+8 Will total

An list of Spirit/Cost will follow when I'm bored ;p

Traits:
See for conditions of Traits activating and their effects: http://bmw.seiha.org/viewtopic.php?t=226
See for a suggestion of Trait Builds: http://bmw.seiha.org/viewtopic.php?t=159

Will come up with my own compilation when... you guessed it!... I'm bored ;p

Misc Mechanics:
Ace bonuses which are granted after 50 kills on one character give +5 Will at the start of a chapter. They also give 20% BP gain (unconfirmed).

45 Battle Masteries give you a hidden stage + character.

Funny, I discovered this at roughly the same time as your post via TVTropes. Though I can't play it yet, since I'm not well versed enough in the Nasuverse.

You know, with a name like Battle Moon Wars I was expecting something ... more. My hopes have been shattered, my life is ruined.:blue:

I mean, you name it Battle Moon Wars and then have the temerity not to include moon-sized battle-ships/stations duking it out! A Death Star or a Dahak planetoid is a must, really, with a name like that.

Though, yeah. I'll play it as soon as my computer returns from the shop.

I'll point out that Battle Moon Wars is non-canon, though it does a pretty good job of following canon for a fanwork.

Found a prepatched version on Hongfire, to be honest I'm having a really hard time on this. Either the settings which I can't alter are set to Hard or on regular play you start the first stage with two characters who can do about 2000 damage each and four opponents who do anywhere from 900 to 1500. I'm guessing the former, I'm actually fairly experienced at these games and it's still difficult.

Edit.
Yeah, using the spirit abilities helps a LOT. Without them you get sliced up three turns in. However, no freaking way Nanaya is that weak.

I went through the whole thing recently, and it's somewhere in the range of "fucking awesome".

The fact the originals aren't canon still makes me sad. They rule so hard. The other protagonists(And Sakura. Especially Sakura.) also somehow manage to get even MORE badass in a totally believable manner.

EDIT: Yeah for some reason the first stage is pretty rough. After a few levels/upgrades both characters start shaping up and pulling their weight big time, they're just oddly weak for that one mission for whatever reason.

Well to save everyone some pain, here is an interesting website giving a Walkthrough for the first stage. It does its best in explaining some gameplay concepts.

Also check my first post for a quick FAQ ;p

That's odd... I could do it before but for whatever reason I'm now unable to use any items even though I've equipped them before hand...

Anyone else having this problem?
