Digimon Best Season

Now we all know that Tamers is objectively the best season, but let's have a little discussion anyway.

Also, general nostalgia thread I guess.

Tamers is number one with Savers and Adventure tied for second. Frontier tried and got the bronze. 02 is that guy who is just glad he finished the race. Xros at the starting line, gave up and decided to grab a pizza.

Pretty much gonna have to agree with Seiya.

I've only watched the first three seasons.

Tamers is still god-tier.

Adventures 01 as the initial entry feels a little weak at times but is still pretty light-hearted for the first two-thirds with exception of a few episodes, then takes a hella serious curveball in the last couple of arcs.

Adventures 02 is kind of, uh, I thought it started strong with the Digimon Emperor arc then it fell off after it had 'the man behind the man behind the man and woman behind the man' thing going on.

EDIT: No wait that's a lie, I watched part of Season 5 I think it is (where the one guy gets an Agumon partner) but for some reason all my memories of that are interspersed with watching S-CRY-ed since the main characters in both I think had similar personalities

I agree with Seiya's ordering of Seasons too, though I'll admit to enjoying Frontier a lot too, if only because of Lowemon.

I... Was not a big fan of Tamers.

It was good, no doubt, I just didn't like it AS much as I did Adventure... (Probably doesn't help that I didn't get to see the final episodes of Tamers until I found JesusOtaku's review of Tamers.)

And I admit, I liked Frontier, though I, mercifully, skipped most of the Royal Knights arc after I found out about how those episodes were handled. (Lucemon, EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon? Awesome. Sorry, again, if they had different names in Japan, I didn't know them.)

Season 02... yeah... no, didn't like it.

Never saw Data Squad (sorry if it had another name in Japan, I don't know of it) or Xros Wars.

The Royal Knights arc was probably the most damning thing about frontier other than the no partners at all and the fact that the two leads final evolutions stole all the spirits from everyone else, bar the second use of Susanoomon. Skipping that entirely would probably really significantly improve the season as a whole.

Seeing as I don't have knowledge of much of any season beyond Frontier/S4, I'd say of the four seasons I know, tie with S2 and S3/Tamers, with S4 second, and S1 third.

Unfortunately, I've still yet to watch the Japanese versions, so my knowledge is only as far as the American dubs.

In order:

1. Savers/Data Squad

2. Adventure

3. 02

4. Tamers

Tamers. Why? Because they had the guts to kill off Leomon for the first time without the intention of having him come back. Because they gave us a Digimon series which could ACTUALLY be taken for Scifi. Because Takato and Guilmon are awesome, Rika and Renamon are awesome, Jeri, Henri, Terriermon, the entire cast i love. They BROKE Jeri like a twig in a highly emotional yet NON-Melodramatic way then gave her the means to climb out of a nightmare and make it count for everything.

There were no real 'Bad Guys' Just humans trying to do what was right and protect their people, Digimon trying to do what was right and protect their people, and an ELDRITCH NIGHTMARE trying to do what was right by the original instructions it was given. That to me made it shine above all others.

I agree with Seiya but would swap Frontier and 02 because 02 gets bonus points for that dark ocean episode that never got anywhere but was fantastic. I am also a Takari fan more than a Takumi one so... yup.

My favorite probably goes without saying. After that, Adventure has second place, because of a mix of nostalgia and a lack of any crippling flaws. 02 and Frontier was a hard call to make, because it's really a decision of which one's flaws personally irked me the most.

02 does indeed get points for the Dark Ocean and Demon--both ideas from Chiaki, the guy who was in charge of Tamers--but at the same time, neither idea got to go anywhere. Worse: Several really boring, formulaic arcs. The majority of the Kaiser stuff was good; got a little draggy at time, but it was good. But then we got another arc of the kids running around breaking Dark Towers and accomplishing not much. Then we got BlackWarGreymon, who was annoying personality-wise, which can be summed up as 'Kids try and stop him. They fail.' Then we got more Dark Tower breaking in the real world and the international arc. Etc. On top of the rather bland group of main characters--mainly Iori and Miyako, who felt kinda flat--it got dragged down. At the same time, though, what it did well--Kaiser, Ocean, Demon--was pretty damn cool.

But I have to give the third place to Frontier. It had it's major problems; no partners, the RK arc, a mixture of dragging and rushing, and four main characters becoming useless etc, but less then 02 and, again, what it did well it did very well.

Yea, I'm with Nanya. Adventure was the best season for me.

Tamers was my favorite, followed by Adventure then 02. Never saw Savers or Xros, and didn't see Frontier all the way through (think the last episode I saw was the one when the wind spirit user got her Beast spirit[Can't think of her name].)

Adventure was a good start, 02..... well the whole armor and DNA Digivolving things were about the only things I really liked. (And Teen Kari.) Tamers had good story, loved the whole hardcore(compared to the 2 previous seasons) vibe, and the kids weren't just standing targets as much. And that was eliminated with the biomerge concept. Frontier was good until I realized I had no real idea on how powerful these spirits were compaired to 'normal' digimon.

You know I just realized that I never mentioned this.

For those of you who don't know the Digimon Adventure Dub is airing at 8:00 P.M. every Weekday on the NickToons channel, in preparation for the releases of the dub of Xros Wars (Digimon Fusion). They are already close to the "return to the Real World and battle with Myotismon" part of the story.

Just a heads up for those who enjoyed the show back in the day.

1. Does it need to be said
2. Frontier, Hey I like the transformations. admittingly, the RK arc sucked but eh
3. Savers, Masaru/Marcus being all manly and shit.
4. Adventure, the start of it all, but loses a lot of points on the " I hate fighting" theme near the middle of the Dark Masters storyline.
5.02 just took that theme and ran with it. For god's sake, once you guys save the digital world again, Primary village will do it's job and everyone's back. If anyone would be fearful of death it should've been the Tamers, but instead they bucked up, and even pacifist Jiangliang/Henry and traumatized Juri/Jeri, and fought back with will to kill if necessary. Also, Takato's reptilian eyes during Megidramon's evolution inspired a lot fics by some of our own.

I grew up with the original season and 02, and I was 14 when I watched Tamers the first time. I liked the Tamers plot progression the most, but Daisuke was my favourite "goggle boy". I'm talking the Japanese version, though, not the stupid English one, which was weird as Hell. He never had a crush on Hikari! Why in the world was he acting like a lovesick prop?

Overall, though, I'd still give the ball to Tamers, though I wish Daisuke'd had more progression rather than... urgh... Takeru and Hikari the Deus Ex Mary Sues.

Didn't Davis have entire fantasy scenes with Kari at one point? I do believe it was stated he wasn't nearly as overblown and constant about it, but I know for a fact he had a crush on her at some point since there was one specific point in the series where he was like imagining her cheering for him like a fangirl and dancing with him or some similar silliness.

Yeah, but she was pretty much his only female friend. Daisuke was very platonic with Hikari in the original Japanese show, even if he was clamoring for the spotlight. However, he was never as "knee deep in the muck of hearts" as he was in the English Dub.

Other than, you know, Yolei. Regardless though, saying he never had a crush on her is a bit misguided to say the least.

Maybe, but I didn't watch the English dub until 2005. Maybe there was something there, but I didn't see it at all after the first 10-15 episodes. There were hints of SOMETHING but I wouldn't call it a crush; affection, perhaps.

Honestly, I've only watched Tamers and Frontier to completion, though I did catch a good portion of Adventure 01 and 02. I really liked Tamers, but Frontier is my preference. I strongly dislike multiple useless cheerleaders, and sadly the kids in A01 and A02 are basically all cheerleaders.

You could argue that their personal growth helped their digimon, but it doesn't stop me from disliking the sheer lack of help from them. I won't bag on them too much, considering that a few of them were probably barely out of diapers. I'll also give them a pass on the latter half of their respective journeys as pissing off many of the Ultimate/Mega-level digimon would've been more than suicidal. But the problems I have with their various stories keep them from being better than Frontier IMO

(if you're wondering, A02 is better in my opinion largely because of the Dark Ocean and Demon. It also got props well as introducing an enemy that the kids simply couldn't beat, a concept I'm not fond on in games, but is more than welcome in other works because, frankly, they shouldn't be able to beat every obstacle. I didn't like BlackWarGreymon himself (he was a whiny bitch in my opinion), but personality aside, he did his role well)

Man, they missed a BIG opportunity with the Dark Ocean. I would have loved for that to be revisited.
