Black Night

Some major spoilers for The Dresden Files follow. I'm going to quote from the annals of Dresden's badassery, then propose questions. If you haven't read the books, press the "Back" button, if you ever plan to read the series.

Quote is below.

Harry: "I've got a fallen angel tripping all over herself to give me more power. Queen Mab has asked me to take the mantle of Winter Knight twice now. I've read Kemmler's book. I know how the Darkhallow works. And I know how to turn necromancy against the Black Court. So once again, let me be perfectly clear. If anything happens to Murphy and I even think you had a hand in it, fuck right and wrong. If you touch her, I'm declaring war on you. Personally. I'm picking up every weapon I can get. And I'm using them to kill you. Horribly. Do you understand me?"
Someone crosses the line. Murphy dies. Dresden knows who did it.

Three questions: Who did it? Why? And how much of Chicago will survive?

This assumes that pesky things like "morals" don't get in the way. I'm thinking that this would have to happen way down the timeline. Maybe the Council is gone?

I'm thinking that Dresden would start the party by going to Mab. Sure, Dresden has always been a "burn the world in fire" kind of guy, but when it comes down to it, ice will suffice. ( :headbanger: )

Next up comes Demonreach. I'm pretty sure that Dresden could do some NASTY NASTY things on his sanctified ground. Set up some wards, try to set things up so that the battle will happen there. Try and figure out where to position allies (see below).

Thirdly: Bob. Remember that thing about Bob being Kemmler's familiar? Yeah. Dresden has access to Bob. He's read the Word of Kemmler. He knows has to perform a ritual of great and terrible power that makes the user a demi-god.

Fourth, item creation. Any items he's made that could make a comeback? Potions, talismans, weapons? Hell, how about one of the Swords? On that note, Hellfire/Soulfire?

Lastly come allies. Molly, Kincaid, Ivy, Ramirez, whatever Warders are around (Luccio?), the Alphas, Toot-toot (FOR THE ZA LORD!!!), the Winter Court, Leanan Sidhe (probably not), Sanya, Marcone and Gard are all the people I can think of off the top of my head who might be able to help. Thomas is out for having gone to the Dark Side, and the Senior Council is, I am assuming for the sake of this fic, toast.

So. Anyone intrigued? I may or may not write this, but I do want to see what would happen if something pushed Dresden to really call in all of the favors he's owed.

How about him pulling a little chicago with a globe...

Harry gone down the dark path is a horrific thought because he's smart and those who piss him off wouldn't know what hit them.

Hell, he could kill off both courts if he wanted to and had the right motivation (Powdered iron in a mist dispersal right in the never never)

If it was that easy, there wouldn't be a faerie left.

The only thing that has ever truly stopped Harry is a lack of power, both in stamina/endurance and in potency. With the Denarian coin, the knowledge of Kemmler's book & spirit familiar, and the power of the Unseelie court, he's not going to be lacking anytime soon. As Luccio once put it, Harry had faced challenges that wizards into their second century hadn't come across, and he's done well for himself.

Provided he's able to use his ingenuity to his past standard, Harry Dresden won't be getting the short end of the stick anytime soon. His usual array of spells included force and wind spells, with some fire to back it. Having the hellfire provided by the Denarian coin/ fallen angel Lasciel, and the ice/wind spells provided by the position of the Knight of the Winter Court, Harry will have the fire power, spell diversity, and twisted mental capabilities to put his new means to very effective ends.

Whoa, Harry's got all four aces up his sleeve, looks like.

So have a motive and a method, now we need a victim. I vote Mavra, Black Court vampire and professional gambler (favorite game? Xanatos Roulette).

Any other suggested targets? And how is Dresden going to take them on?

How about a guy who works for someone known to have motives literally incomprehensible to mortals (and probably faerie), stuck Dresden with a power that literally devours his soul chunk by chunk everytime he uses it, and has been likened to a black ops agent willing to use questionable means to get the result he (or his boss) wants.

I nominate Uriel.

Honestly, I see Harry plowing through most of his rogues gallery in this kind of situation. Murph gets killed in a gang crossfire which takes him to Gentleman Johnny Marcone. Even in his half-rabid state Harry knows that's not how Marcone rolls, and Molly confirms that the order was planted in Marcone during his time with the Denarians. That takes Harry to the Nickleheads who finds out the suggestion implant was the result of a deal with Uriel. Ideally there would be more layers to this, but I can't think how to add the other adversaries.
