Inferring from what's actually happened thus far, I would also guess Urahara may be one, too.

I'd assume some kind of swordplay style given the context. Maybe it has something to do with Reiatsu flow, maybe not, but seems to play into how Unohana's supposedly a badass sword user or something.

It's probably just a bad translation. I can't be bothered looking for other translations or the raw, but at a guess it probably should be form, given the context of what he's talking about.

During all the recent zanpakuto information, was it ever explained (outright or implied) why they are capable of purifying souls and performing konso?

And what led to that was that I was wondering whether another explanation for what happens to a Hollow killed by something other than a zanpakuto or Quincy weapon is that the Hollow re-materializes at a later point.

So doing this...

...would the destroy the Hollow's physical body but only that. The Hollow's soul would return to Hueco Mundo (or maybe in the same place just much later on) where it would regain its body/be reborn in a new one sometime after its death and carry on its existence. So killing without a zanpakuto is an effective way of removing the immediate danger and keeping people out of harm, but it's just a stopgap measure that doesn't reduce the number of Hollows overall.

To the first. Shinigami power purifies hollows, a Zanpakuto is a Shinigami's power. Done. Konso is harder, since it seems more like an actual designed technique that is nevertheless on the actual sword, but since we know the Zanpakuto are artificial, you can literally just they they were designed that way. The only person who formed his own physical Zanpakuto from scratch never used it for Konso from what I remember, and even if he did he could have subconsciously based it on the same form as the one he had before that. Well, we know he did since its sealed form looked exactly the same right down to the broken blade, even though Kubo confirmed it was 100% Rukia's Zan that he was using originally.

The bigger issue is, how the fuck did people get to Soul Society in the first place before Shinigami and Konso in order to eventually become the Gotei 13? Did the Spirit King operate the whole system himself and then make Shinigami a thing because he couldn't be fucked? I mean the Gotei 13 wasn't even really a proper system until 1000 years ago, so what was it like before that?

EDIT: Holy shit, maybe I've been thinking about this all wrong. Maybe nobody was originally human. Not the Shinigami, not the Quincy. Quincy are the Descendants of Yhwach, so maybe the idea that they were humans with spiritual awareness is a misconception caused by them being able to breed with them to produce more Quincy (which would fit into the whole "Pure Blood Quincy" actually having nothing to do with two Quincy parents, but some other classifications).

By the same token, have we ever actually seen a Shinigmai that wasn't born in Soul Society? Like, what basis does the idea that humans that die and go to Soul Society can become Shinigami actually have? Maybe all the people who go to the Shinigami academy and become Shinigami already were racially born Shinigami with an inner Zanpakuto spirit, and the physical created Zans were simply a genius way to further focus the powers that only they had. Maybe if a dead human, even with a high amount of spiritual energy went and applied, they just flat out wouldn't pass, because they don't have Shinigami powers already. Hitsugaya's backstory suggested this, but I'd always thought he was a born Shinigami like Ichigo and Byakuya but got left out in Rukongai somehow. Asauchi dude's revelations combined with it kind of actually suggests he was the common case rather than the exception though, with his specialness merely being his spiritual power and talent.

EDIT AGAIN: Aw fuck, I just remembered, didn't Rukia and Hisana explicitly come to SS after dying? In which case, theory destroyed, back to wondering how the fuck this system makes any fucking sense.

Dammit, I really liked that one.

Ichigo used Konso at least twice as I remember. Once for the Parakeet, and another time for some dude Ishida saved from afar. Probably more honestly those are just the two I remember off hand.

This is where this bullshit gets a bit murky, because we once again have to remember he was using Rukia's sword however. Which kind of leads to a plot hole when he gets that very same sword out of his soul when Rukia's powers were destroyed and then that damaged blade turns into Zangetsu (Ergo he had an Asuachi the entire time so this bullshit still makes no sense) but really with as many plotholes in this single arc alone focusing on that distinction is moot really. The bankai never repair bullshit is far more aggravating.

When I said "the guy who formed his own physical Zan never used it for Konso" I was talking about after the shattered shaft, which is why I then talked about how he somehow copied Rukia's anyway so it was a moot point even if he could perform konso with it.

The parakeet thing was really early on in the manga. Like any other manga that have decade-long plus runs, you can safely expect some early material has to be handwaved away to make later plot details work.

Do you think Hachigen's barrier techs are related to the Menos' Negacion?

How much of what Old Man Zangetsu said about zanpakuto during Ichigo's fight with Kenpachi is still true?

Edit: Make that Old Man Zangetsu and Hollow Zangetsu.

Who knows. That's why massive gaping plotholes like that are so annoying, it completely undermines everything that came before and makes it damned hard to tell what is actually true or not anymore.

Which plot points have been raised but left unresolved throughout the manga?

Off the top of my head, I remember repeated mentions of 'something' being done to Orihime during her stay in Hueco Mundo and Karin going to Uraraha's shop in the Fullbring Arc. I was wondering if there were more?

Urahara's Bankai? Aizen's Bankai? Whatever happened to Grimmjow (he survived apparently but hasn't made a reappearance)?

There's no indication Aizen even has a Bankai. He faked his presentation. He said his sword's name against Barragan. Even his statement that he'd mastered the Four Shinigami arts means nothing because they don't involve the Zanpakuto spirit (also he was lying about that anyway).

He could have a Bankai and just never used it for some reason (to be fair it's not like he needed it). Or he couldn't subdue his sword because it was way too hax. No evidence of either that I remember.

Where did Aizen claim that he'd mastered the Shinigami arts? He mentions them during End of Hypnosis but only as a general statement and don't remember where else it could have come up.

A zanpacto reflects a facet of his shinigami's soul. Given Kyoga Suigetsu's ability it's Aizen's inner troll. Difficult to subue.

Hmm. I was thinking of that scene, but at best that's an implication. He might have said it somewhere else and that's what I'm thinking of, but it doesn't really matter. That point was just that he hadn't mastered them anyway.

He used a Level 90 kido spell without incantation against Komamura...unless that was him trolling us again and using an illusion to make it only LOOK like he did a level 90 kido spell without incantation.

That's what shows he hasn't mastered them. Since he says it failed and didn't even reach a third of the power it should've.

The Bodies Mayuri found in Syzael's lab for one thing. In fairness I believe this was actually just the Privaron Espada who got ganked by the executioner dudes after their defeats, which apparently in the novel Syzael used to reform himself turning back into the 0 espada he formerly was before he and his brother split into two beings.

There's also why Xcution was questioning about Isshin, what was up in general with Ginjou's run as a substitute shinigami, WHAT THE FLYING HELL THOSE DUDES STOLE FROM MATSUMOTO as well as a shitton of questions left by Deicide that frankly are better left unanswered because of how utterly shit that arc was in general.

Ichigo's powers in general are so goddamn finicky at this point because of how many retarded crosses he put in there for no discernible reason, but since I long since stopped giving a shit about Ichigo that can be left unresolved and preferably retconed too for all I care.

Gatenbaine and Grimmjaw's fates, though I believe Chad and Orihime have been bumming around Hueco Mundo with them currently so that should be resolved at some point if Kubo would get off the Royal Guard and Shinigami wank train sometime soon and start given the rest some actual time to goddamn shine.

Second Ressurection's is another thing that wasn't really covered, though thankfully Urahara recently confirmed that the Arrancar equivalent to bankai is in actuality just the general resurrections. Which of course means that the second stage is not 'obviously a 5-10 times increase' as some really dumb people were arguing ages ago in order to wank Pat's general strength level (Not here obviously, just in general bleach forums where they actually give a shit about that atrocious fight, the internet is a very dumb place sometimes).

Yammi being the Zero espada (Don't care at all best he just goes down like the chump he was), Whatever the hell Fura was supposed to be which is probably not going to be referenced again, Tousen's two shikai states (Though admittedly his taking someone else's Zan was recently answered thanks to the Asauchi stupitity so that's one of many questions about him down), Animal Realm I guess which is kind of weird since there were animals already in SS, like Ganju's boars that he road on.

HELL IN GENERAL. Mod souls like at all, Dangai and the power of 'Reason' (Again ties into the Deicide bullshit so best to ignore), the possibility of other SS's, Magic Hunters, and probably a lot more that I'm neglecting at the moment.

Edit: Also the vizard's and what they can do, since we really haven't seen any of them going all out yet in technicallity. They retconned Mashiro's time limit for some really stupid reason which doesn't help matters, but really they've just been utterly shat on this arc in favor of the shinigami. Shinji got punked by Explode Chick, both Kensei and Rose went down to Mask who Renji then stomped solo, suffice to say if you gave a shit about them you must be really unsatisfied at this point. The only one who has ever done anything notable was freaking Hachi.

I don't get your obsession with this. This is not an unresolved plot point. There are no other Soul Societies. It has never been suggested there are at all. It's all Japanese based because Kubo is Japanese and so is the audience that buy the magazine the manga is printed in. It's not addressed because it's not a thing. It's a stylized choice, not one acknowledged in the story.

Seriously, if you're making a big deal about Japanese SS all the time why aren't you talking about how HM is Spanish. Seriously, if there are multiple versions of the spiritual realms we see that are somehow divided up by Nation State borders (which I might add is so fucking retarded I don't know why you think it's a good idea), why has Japan got Spain's hollow realm?

Or what about how all the Quincy stuff is German based? You can't even say it's because they originate from Germany, as the guy who made them all is from Canaan.

Stop getting hung up over a stylistic choice. If this was an American comic and everyone in SS had western names, spoke American English and used Scythes you wouldn't be mentioning this all the time. Because that shit happens all the time in American media and we accept it. We suspend our disbelief. So just do that same damn thing for a Japanese comic, created by a Japanese man, to be sold to Japanese people.
