Re: the Simba/Nala thing from The Lion King.
I saw the recent stage production with a friend - the production quality was excellent - and it answered a question that occasionally nagged me about the original film.
"I left to find help - and I found you!"
As a child, I couldn't help but wonder "What help did she expect to find, exactly?"
And the play answered the question: Nala was searching for a lion to challenge Scar for the crown. The play strongly suggests that Scar's attempts to assert his rights as alpha male with her were what drove her to seek help.
But yeah... barring the idea that Nala was found somewhere, the only other option available is that Mufasa's unnamed father sired her - which would make their aunt/nephew relationship even more creepy. Half-siblings is just how it goes, I guess.
I mean, it's a kids movie, You really don't want to have to explain to a 6-year-old what a harem is if you can avoid it.
