Top Cow comics have decided to end their popular series The Darkness. Current writer of the series, David Hine, told Comic Book Resources that the time has come to put cult favourite Jackie Estacado to rest.

Since the crossover series Artifacts began 18 months ago, the Top Cow universe has been going through some changes. The biggest being the total reshaping of the world so that the daughter of the Darkness and the Witchblade was never born and instead Jackie’s childhood sweetheart, Jenny, was brought back to life and the child was actually born of Jackie and Jenny’s union. Since then, Artifacts character Tom Judge has been battling the forces of evil and attempting to bring the 13 artifacts back together in order to right the universe.

Hine told Comic Book Resources that after The Darkness #116, there will be a three-issue special entitled Darkness Falls and that will end the story of Jackie Estacado for good.

"Immediately following “Darkness” #116, we are going into the three-part “Darkness Falls.” Basically, Jackie dies. I think that’s all you need to know about the plot. Jackie has walked a long and hazardous road and he has come to the end. His death has become inevitable. The more compelling question is how and why he dies."

Fans of the series will be left reeling after this revelation, especially with Hine being so blunt about it. There has been no attempt to turn Jackie’s death into a shocking twist but rather the comic book publisher has decided that it is an inevitable truth.

I never knew The Darkness was still ongoing. Loved the first series.
Never really got into the second series after he 'survived' in such a BS way. Wandered away from the series after the first game. Good times.
Jenny should stay deader than Uncle Ben though. Her death was pivotal to Jackie's development as a character.

Then again, meeting Batman was also pivotal to his character. Odd, that.

The 'Accursed' run seems like it was worthwhile, with Jackie out to get revenge on a devil and assembling a team of crooks to help. Haven't read the 'First born' or 'Artifacts' run but I've heard good things. The same goes for the 'Rebirth' line.

However, I do think it's time to end Jackies run, he means well but the Mafia training plus the other events in his life just make it impossible for him to completely shake the (heh) darkside of his personality.

Will having an heir still kill him?

I recall that being a major driving point involving an angry bald guy in the first series.

It's sort of debatable. In the first run it was explicitly stated that Jackie couldn't have sex any more because there was no one hundred percent effective contraceptive, the Darkness made him super-fertile or something, and the instant he conceived a child the Darkness would go to that child thus killing Jackie.

Hope was born because of a technicality, while Sarah Pezzini was in a coma the Darkness possessed Jackie's body and used it to father Hope on Sarah so technically Jackie didn't father her... sort of. Hope's also female which messes with things as the Darkness is a Male power to counter the Angelus' female. It can exist in a female host, like Jackie's twin sister or great grandmother who've both been long relegated to comic limbo, it just prefers not to.

I figure Jackie will be dead for a while and then they'll bring him back like they did the last time. The man came back from hell after his body was literally burned to cinders.

Also, the angry bald guy was probably Sonatine the leader of the Brotherhood of Darkness, an Ancient Conspiracy set up by one of Jackie's more successful ancestor/predecessors. He managed to steal bits and pieces of the Darkness' power over time but Jackie always won in the end

It has to be a male heir to inherit the power and kill him.....however from what I've read of Rebirth Jackie may have altered the rules to his detriment.

Just finished The Darkness Rebirth volumes 1 & 2. Jackies REALLY screwed things up by bringing Jenny back to life, and making her Hopes mother. Jenny was supposed to remain dead, and Hope was meant to be the balance between light and shadow. Now, Jenny is a living paradox whose presence is causing the universe to break down and old gods (the "parents" of the Angelus and the Darkness) to awaken (and as usual they're not happy). Oh and his daughter is now almost pure Darkness.

Also, he seperated himself from the Darkness which then formed a Doppleganger of Jackie that lacks his morality, loves it's 'Daughter' Hope and wife Jenny, and is content to allow the Old gods to rampage across the universe while keeping the real Jackie imprisoned under it's mansion.

So yeah...the coming shitstorm is Jackies fault and it appears to tormenting him with that fact.

At present I'm guessing this picture...

means the Witchblade will be killing Doppleganger Jackie which is for the best.

Estacado I have to admit I am impressed, I rarely see things go so wrong so fast. Perhaps we should bring you over to DC comics and let you loose on New 52. I bet you'd force another reboot within a year.

Heads up, a new crossover is in the works called X-men battle of the Atom.

X-Men: Battle of the Atom will see what happens when it's finally time for the original X-Men to go back to their own time -- with the help of the future X-Men. That's right, the present-day X-Men are going to get a visit from their future selves that have one mission: to send the original X-Men back where they belong and prevent a terrible future. I think at this point, perhaps the X-Men causing a horrible future is just going to happen no matter what they do.

How to not have a bad future in X-men:
Kill everyone related to Scott Summers, even those from the future as well as all redheaded, bald and blonde psychics and their clones. Also anyone Scott slept with, ever just to avoid any kids.
Kill Mr. Sinister, Magneto, and Apocalypse/any clones of his.

That covers the majority of the X-men's problems right there.
Next is just a quick deal with Mephisto to have reality rewritten so that X-men comics no longer existed so that Marvel loses all of its anti-mutant racists that seem to only exist in X-men comics.

Looks like Hank's going to be drinking his serums again. Damnit Hank, Tony just finished mocking you about that! You'd think you'd learn!

It seems this is actually going to happen.

Jason Momoa to play Aquaman

So an actor who got his star on Stargate Atlantis....will now play the king of the sea.....huh.....

Someone else who's not particularly happy about what happened in that film is Aquaman. I'm not sure if that's the actual name they'll use or not, but what we're hearing is that he is not pleased about the World Engine and what it did to the Indian Ocean. He will not have a major role in the film, but he will make an appearance, and it definitely sets him up to return once Snyder gets to "Justice League."
Fair enough, though I wonder if he's going to be hostile to the land dwellers because of what happened. Technically he shouldn't be since there was literally nothing they could do about it but we shall see. Hmm..if memory serves Arthur (at one point in the comics) did off a few villains that pushed him too far....I can almost see a scene where he thanks Superman for killing Zod and it leading to some unpleasantness between the two.

Obviously to deny marvel his services.

Huh...he really does kind of look like Namor

Well, PAD once stated he never wrote a single Aquaman story, only stories about Namor set in the DC universe....

Marvel doesn't want him after the whole Drax thing. But seriously you have three dark haired people already. Why not get a blond?

He was apparently supposed to play Drax in GOTG but asked for too much money.

Really? Huh. The first stuff that came up when I googled it was about him turning it down because he wanted to avoid typecasting if possible. Granted that was an interview with him/his perspective but he was also pretty graceful about the whole thing and pleasant and well wishing to the GotG movie.

So... Katee Sackhoff is doing something for Disney.
Current fan theory is Captain Marvel for the MCU but she's been posting small teasers on her twitter page and it could also be a Star Wars character.
Edit. Most recent image has me thinking MCU's version of Death but could also be a Sith or something.
