Tomoe Hotaru
1. Tomoe Hotaru is dead. Legally speaking. She is still alive, but if you dug deep enough into her paper trail you'd find that she died in a laboratory explosion a number of years ago. Then, a few days after she was declared legally dead, she simply got up and grinned at her father, who grinned back. Witnesses say the silent exchange was the single scariest thing they had ever seen, those who are in an asylum instead of having put themselves in the morgue that is. For some reason, the clerical error of her being dead has never been corrected.
2. Hotaru hears voices. One is kind, and nice, and sweet, and her words sound like honey. She calls herself Kyuu, and although Hotaru likes her, she doesn't trust her an iota because she lies. The other is blunt and brutal in her assessments and advice. Saturn, as she calls herself, spares no sugar or kindness and is ruthlessly pragmatic, but Hotaru trusts her because she is demonstrably honest, even if she doesn't like the voice.
3. Hotaru has significant prosthetics. Combined with her magical ability to heal people, sickliness, liking of dark colors, and the stories about her, she is relegated to pariah status. At least, until a girl with pink hair befriends her.
Kino Makoto
1. Kino Makoto is super strong. A normal human of her height and build, simply isn't strong enough to do some of the things she's done.
2. Artemis and Minako encountered Makoto in Palestine, during one of Kunzite's energy gathering schemes. Thus did Jupiter join with Sailor V.
3. Artemis doesn't move them to meet with the other Senshi in Japan until Zoicite disappears from Europe.
Ami Mizuno
1. Ami Mizuno is a stone cold genius. At the age of 14 she has already made important contributions to several disparate fields of mathematics and physics. She is generally considered the second coming of Gauss or Euler.
2. The reason she's a student in a Japanese school instead of teaching at MIT is because she is also terminally shy and introverted. She is quite frankly, hopeless at social interaction. Her being born and raised in the Union of American Socialist Republics, this is considered a terrible obstacle to her development as a person. So she was shipped off to spend a year in Japan, where she wouldn't be well known, to see if she could get some socialization there. Next thing she knows Usagi has latched on to her and begun the long, arduous process of dragging her out of her shell.
3. Ami and Rei sometimes get into debates on the role of Religion, but it never gets heated, Rei is simply so confident and well grounded that Ami is forced to concede that maybe religion isn't just an "opiate of the masses".
Hino Rei
1. Hino Rei is not a Socialist, or a Communist, or a Capitalist, or a Fascist. She doesn't define herself in such crass materialist terms. She is a Shinto Priestess, that is how she defines and centers herself. From this certainty she draws a stock of surety and confidence that others find both comforting and scary.
2. Rei does not like men. She isn't sure if she's a lesbian or if her experiences with her father were just that bad, but she secretly hopes its the former.
3. Rei thinks Usagi is immature, yet for all of their thousand petty fights, the meatball head has never crossed the line and said anything truly hurtful, even when she knew what to say she avoided the line. For that Rei is extremely grateful and considers the blonde a true friend.
Minako Aino
1. Born in India and raised in Great Britain, Aino Minako is a good and patriotic fascist. La Rocque, Hitler, Mussolini and the other founders of the European Federation are viewed much as Americans view their Founding Fathers, although Oswald Mosley takes center stage since Minako considers herself a Brit.
2. Her parents were refugees to India when the Americans invaded the Japanese Islands. They met in New Delhi, and her father's company eventually moved him to the core of the Empire.
3. Minako's blond hair and blue eyes have saved her a lot of teasing, since she's almost more stereotypically white than most of the people in her classes. She usually goes by Mina.
Meiou Setsuna
1. If you were to accuse Setsuna of being the master manipulator behind history she would laugh in your face. The time gates are a powerful predictor, but she's only human and can only keep so much info straight in her mind at once. Not to mention that, other than the time gates, she can't be in more than 1 place at a time. If she were to mess with Simon Bolivar that would leave Napoleon Bonaparte unsupervised.
2. Which isn't to say she hasn't had a hand in the rise and fall of empires and cultures. Genghis Khan had her backing, and the Bard wrote sonnets to her.
3. Most of the time, however, she is unable to bypass the rules that bind her to the gate. Usually she fights boredom and insanity by watching the political exploits of Luna and Artemis. When she's losing the fight with boredom and insanity she peeps on attractive people having sex, it is very lonely at the Time Gates.
