I really should be working on the whole "Witches and Familiars" thing but this idea will just not leave me alone.

Name: Cambion

Category: Human/Infected by Hell's energies.

Overview: Similar to how a Fullbringer is born from a human parent infected by the Spiritual Energies of a Hollow, if a pregnant women is in close vicinity to the Gates of Hell when they are opened then they can be infected by it's energies. The child in her uterus is then altered by this energy.

Most of these unborn children die as a result but a handful survive, altered by the Power of Hell. Granted spiritual awareness from birth they are often seen as dark and disturbing children, but eerily as they grow their bodies conform to the image of whatever they consider most attractive. This along with their power to manipulate emotions allows them to exert a degree of control over other individuals, but due to the emotional stunting of their growth often makes them cruel and ruthless manipulators.

It is rare for a "lineage" of Cambion's to exist as in order for a Cambion to have another Cambion as for a child to inherit their powers they must have a Cambion for both parents. Due to the rarity of their "race" hardly any Cambion produce a second generation however if they do so then the offspring will be capable of breeding more Cambion's.

Abilities:

Subconsciously Controlled Growth:
As they grow older Cambion gain the ability to manipulate the cells of their body through the use of Reishi. As an instinctual ability it let's them direct the course of their bodies development based on subconscious desire, and speeds up their rate of healing. It also makes them physically stronger and more durable then ordinary humans.

Very few Cambion gain the ability to direct this growth through their own will, at most being able to grant themselves even greater enhanced regeneration and durability. However if their image of "beauty" changes over time then their appearance will alter accordingly given enough time.

Emotional Feeding and Manipulation
Converting the psychic energy of a targets emotions into spiritual energy, a Cambion can feed on this energy which takes on the form of a red vapor emitted from the mouth and nose of the victim.

To this end a Cambion has the ability to manipulate the emotions of others in order to get a better "meal" as each individual will develop a preference for certain emotions.

Combined with the inhumanly beautiful bodies of a Cambion this ability allows them to manipulate others for their own gain.

Feeding on another allows a Cambion to quickly replenish their store of Spiritual Energy.

Phasing
Like the Kushanada who drag damned souls to Hell the Cambion's who absorb a portion of these Jailers energies gain the ability to "phase" through matter. Notably it only applies to most "mundane" physical and spiritron based matter. "Active" Spiritron particles like those which comprise the bodies of spiritual beings, Zanpakto, and energy attacks like Kido, Cero, and Quincy Arrows are to "dense" to be phased through.

Interestingly when this ability is in use unlike the Kushanada the Cambion's are rendered invisible and their Spiritual Pressure is almost imperceptable. This makes it a very useful "stealth" ability.

Hellfire
Manifesting as a crimson and black "flame" (think an inversion of Ichigo's Getsuga Tensho) this is the Cambion's main offensive ability to manipulate Reishi.

In an inversion of a Quincy's ability to gather Spiritual Particles to fuel their power a Cambion "burns" Spirit Particles that their "hellfire" touches to fuel the use of this ability. As such these "flames" are effective at destroying Spiritual Particles. Thankfully it cannot burn particles in the air and physical contact is required with a source of spiritual energy or they will sputter out and die when not held by their creator. Unfortunately a living soul qualifies and when burned leaves the victim spasming in agony until they die with no apparent cause of death to those who are not spiritually aware.

While it can be used in structured forms for other effects this requires a great deal of energy and these "spells" while powerful always tends towards destruction. For example a freezing spell will fuel growth of ice by consuming the spiritual energy of it's target in a painful process ripping apart a spiritual being piece by piece while at the same time freezing them.

Spiritual Armor
Developed for defensive purposes a Cambion can "harden" spiritual pressure transforming it into an armor. Released as the common "aura" which appears when strong spiritually aware being exerts a great deal of power it quickly collapses in upon itself and forms around the user in the shape of an organic seeming armor.

Bone, Fur, Flesh and Scales are the most common themes that an armor can take, transforming the Cambion into a truly "demonic" image. Rarely a few Cambion's develop a chitinous armor based on Arthropods.

While Cambion's already possess physical abilities and durability in excess of mere humans this "living armor" which serves as an extension of their own soul vastly improves them overall.

The greatest weakness of this technique is that as an extension of the Cambion's soul if it is severely damaged this damage is reflected on the users own soul. Furthermore since it requires constant exertion of Spiritual Pressure there is a limit to how long it can be used without exhausting a users reserves.

As such creating a set of "gauntlets and greaves" for physical combat are a popular choice, but as the enhanced strength and durability are dependent on the coverage an quality of the armor if one puts to much "power" into this incomplete armor it puts to much stress on the unarmored parts of the body.

End

Okay so I made a race based on the Cambion's, the demonic halfbreeds spawned by the Succubus/Incubus of legend. I based some of their abilities one the common view of Succubi/Incubi in modern culture, most notably the Emotion Feeding/Manipulation, ability to "change" their appearance to a certain extent to appear attractive, and the "phasing" allowing them to enter the chambers of their victims unnoticed.

Since they are just born from energy released from Hell Gates and the Kushanada dragging souls in they have no bearing on any other form of "Hell Based" race.

So did I do a good enough job in making a race of eerily beautiful "demonic" manipulators?

Y'know I've been pondering this for a while now and I can't really come to a conclusion; how would a Shinigami/Quincy hybrid work? Obviously, I'm thinking of Karin and Yuzu here with the assumption that they inherited both Shinigami and Quincy powers from their parents. Would it be as simple as them essentially being Shinigami but with the additional ability of absorbing reishi from the environment? Or a Quincy where they have an inborn equivalent of an Epiteph in place of their zanpakuto? A dual zanpakuto like the one Ichigo has now, a zanpakuto that can change into a bow and uses reishi or would Old Man 'Getsu combine with their zanpkauto and change like how White became Zangetsu?

Ichigo's the only example we've got (and will probably be showing off a quincy-style zanpakuto when he arrives) buthe's gone through so many different power development that he's not much of a poor guideline. It's bugging the hell out of me which would be the most likely, workable and/or interesting. :hmm:

Honestly? Basically like a Full Bring. Seriously, combine the aspect of 'Manipulating spiritual particles around you' with 'make a pact with your "weapon" to gain further strength and new abilities'. You get a Full Bring.

You know actually spin a Human Hollow cross more like Chad, the human itself becoming monstrous or gaining more direct powers (You know, EXACTLY like how a hollow works) and Make FullBring actually be a Quincy/Shinigami cross and you have a hell of a lot more sense to the spiritual workings. Plus then Orihime makes all the sense in the world as a Fullbringer, since her hairpins were compared to a Zanpakuto anyway. Christ you could even spin the barriers as a quincy tech variant and her ability to ignore and phase through them as spirit particle bonding/manipulation.

That comparison to Orihime prompted some thought. First I was thinking a physical manifested spirit that acts as a medium for a weapon or special tech like the Shun Shun Rikka, stored within or changing into something they keep on them like standard. Maybe they remain consciously active even whilst in use. So something like the Over Souls from Shaman King.

But having them turn into weapons is somewhat redundant when they've got spirit particles and can literally make any weapon they want. A focus on special tech like Orihime would be better, whilst the twins hadn't the standard combat styles themselves.

Then I took it a little further and thought that maybe Karin and Yuzu could use their spirits in an even more direct sense. They literally summon their spirit in a physical form which fights alongside them as a partner whilst they conjure weapons, shoot arrows, cast magic and/or punch crap. Their 'bankai' could turn them into a more powerful spirit or fuse them with the two like a Djinn Equip. You basically end up with a Bount from that angle but no-one cares about them anyway. :snigger:

I actually need to sit down with Shaman King and read it through properly one of these days, but I think you might have hit the nail on the head with the Oversoul ability there. Granted I only have vague Recollections of what little I read, but something like the lead's Blade/Armor constructs, particularly if done in conjunction with another spirit would be quite the interesting way to spin the power. I still say it makes more sense to just straight up make Fullbring the cross, but if you're going to go somewhere with it, making it a variant of(Or since it's not canon anyway just making it straight up outright) Guardian Fullbring might indeed be the way to go.

Hell, I already had a spin of that for Yuzu in the abilities thread, by letting her use Kon. :snigger:

Karin admittedly though is trickier, but maybe she makes buddies with a particularly old and powerful lingering spirit like Shaman King, maybe even an animal spirit or something if you don't want to go straight up for another character and that works, who knows, you might have something there. Hell, I just got a great kick of the Dresden File's 7th book with the whole Sue thing, calling back that particularly ancient spirit because necromancy, that by itself would be all kinds of fun if done right. :sisi:

So...we got anything for races native to Hell? I've got an idea for the Sinners who are sent there but nothing concrete for the beings that are presumably in charge.

Just your standard demons and devils concept sort of shenanigans. Nothing particularly grand but that's natural when dealing with something as ubiquitous as hell. Probably should keep a few rules in mind to explain why they never show up in the human world or otherwise avoid it. I myself am partial to the 'Bartemeous Trilogy' explanation, simply being outside of their homeworld is actively detrimental and agonizing to them. Possibly even to the point where the stronger they are, the more agonizing and painful it is and the greater the hit they take to their strength.

Also probably a good idea to have a bit of focus on dimensional powers, and also make them sort of an analogue to hollows. Focusing on monstrous forms and abilities. Possibly as a direct counterpart to Quincy in fact, so as Quincy are sort of an analogue to Shinigami, Demons are an analogue to hollows. Maybe even to the point where they have a similar sort of hivemind/development cycle.

I had a fairly interest concept where these sort of spidery shadow thingies and these rock hard gargoyle like thingies were sort of counters to each other, where the spiders specialized in warping and phasing where the gargoyles specialized in petrification and 'dimensional locking' (Meaning they're exceedingly hard to damage and move as they were essentially locked into place). And naturally their powers sort of countered each other, they can't petrify the spiders because they phase through it, but in turn the petrification instead negates their phasing, meaning the gargoyles can hit them. And in turn the Gargoyles had no means of blocking the spiders blows because they can warp or phase their attacks through the dimensional locking, putting the two on actual even ground.

You'll probably get a lot of silly stuff like that though depending how you spin it. Demons and Devils are just that open a concept.

I will say though, of the stuff in the movie I do love the concept of the red chain keeping the fallen locked into hell. I didn't like so much that knocking off the mask and cloak somehow drew them back automatically, but if you made it a power based thing instead, maybe tying it directly into the Bartemeous Trilogy means of doing it again then you have something to work with. Hollows keeping their power when they fall is a little weird though so I'd probably negate that entirely (OR embrace it purely so that I can say SHINIGAMI STARRK is a thing). I wouldn't be adverse to them being stripped but then instead sort of building up a demon based skill set in line with their original hollow powers however.

Name: Spirit Medium

Category: Human

Overview: This is a Human who has spiritual energy and is sensitive to spirits. Humans are normal, living people, most of whom cannot see or sense disembodied spirits in any way. One in 50,000 Humans is a medium with some awareness of nearby ghosts, but only a third of these are able to see them clearly and only the strongest of mediums are able to speak with or touch ghosts.

How much spiritual energy they have defines to what exact they can perceive and interact with spiritual beings, and they are ranked accordingly. D-Levels have the lowest spirit sensitivity and can only see a blur when spirits are present. C-Levels have low spirit sensitivity and can see Pluses. B-Levels have medium spirit sensitivity and can see and hear Pluses. A-Levels have high spirit sensitivity and can see, hear and touch Pluses. Finally, S-Levels have the highest spirit sensitivity can perceive and interact with all spirits, including Hollows and Shinigami.

Most Spirit Mediums are born with their sensitivity but regular humans can awaken this potential through near-death experiences or prolonged/intense exposure to spiritual beings. A Human attacked by a Hollow often develops spiritual sensitivity if they survive, for instance. These same experiences can also serve to increase a Spirit Medium’s sensitivity and power.

Spirits are drawn to these Mediums. Pluses see them as a means of ending that solitary existence, often following them and hovering around them in hopes of communicating and living vicariously through them. More desperate or malicious Pluses even try to possess the Medium which earns them the temporary experience of life but Medium are capable of resisting with some effort. Hollows, on the other hand, see Mediums as particularly delicious prey that surpasses Human and Pluses which often causes them to be victimised.

Ignorant of the nature of the spiritual realms, Spirit Mediums often live out their lives with their spiritual awareness having little impact on their lives. Some become self-proclaimed exorcists who try to help spirits pass on to the next life or fight against Hollows to protect Humans, able to harness their minimal amount of spiritual energy. For the most part, Spirit Medium are little different from Humans which is what fuels the widespread belief among spirits that Humans are the weakest of the four races.

Ability: In spite of popular belief, should a Spirit Medium awaken their natural powers then they can become as powerful as any other race. This power reflects the nature of the soul, as unique as the individual themselves, and lies dormant within them. In many ways, it is no different from the zanpakuto spirit or a hollow transformation but in what form these powers manifests and what they are capable of far surpass other races in possibilities. They can resemble Shinigami, Hollows or Quincies in nature or they could be something completely different.

Name: Substitute Shinigami

Category: Human/Shinigami

Overview: This is a Human with the power of a Shinigami. By encountering a Shinigami who then transferred a fraction of their power, they are temporarily turned into a Shinigami. This has only ever been used on Spirit Mediums. They use the borrowed spiritual power combined with their own and a replica of their zanpakuto to fight against Hollows until the Shinigami retrieves it from them. Then they return to being a regular Human.

If the Shinigami dies before they retrieve their power then it is left permanently in the hands of the Substitute, along with the rest of their energy. Additionally, their borrowed zanpakuto would act as an asauchi for the Substitute which allows then to awaken their own zanpakuto spirit and be capable of achieving Shikai and, potentially, Bankai. This is one of the reasons this process was considered dangerous even before it was outlawed entirely.

Only Humans who can withstand the process (which has been known to kill the target) are those with the potential to become Shinigami themselves. Numerous Humans are born with that potential and would become Shinigami when they die and move onto Soul Society, and they aren’t necessarily Spirit Mediums during their lifetime. The vast majority of the time, this potential remains completely untapped but there have been two (three, technically) examples where it has been awakened, both of which were a by-product of becoming Substitute Shinigami.

Kugo Ginjo is the foremost example. He became a Substitute Shinigami, awakened his own Shinigami potential during his tenure and proceeded to become one of his own merits despite being a Human. Kurosaki Ichigo is another example but is slightly different because he was in fact the offspring of a Shinigami rather than a regular Human with the potential. Finally there is Inoue Orihime who would have become a Shinigami in the afterlife but the premature awakening of her power (without becoming a Substitute Shinigami) resulted in a rather unique manifestation.

Ability: A Substitute Shinigami is the same as a Shinigami but with a few key differences. They have a living body which they can exit and enter, they can manifests their powers through that body if they learn how and they do not require an asauchi to manifest their zanpakuto.

Name: Shinkan, Divine Priest

Category: Human/Shinigami/Quincy

Overview: This is a Human born from a Shinigami and a Quincy. One of the rarest of races, there are only two Shinkan to have ever existed; Kurosaki Karin and Kurosaki Yuzu. Whether it would be possible for a Quincy Plus to have a child with a Shinigami and pass on their power is currently unknown.

Ability: Their general abilities function much like what would be expected from a hybrid of the two races, capable of using practically any technique by using reiatsu and absorbing reishi. Their standard fighting style is the same as the Wandenreich where they produce different kind of spirit weapons to suit their needs. Only the Shinkan purify Hollows instead of destroying them.

A Shinkan’s spirit power manifests as a Shugorei, a Guardian Spirit. This is the embodiment of their spiritual power which is summoned from the depths of their soul as a physical being in the real world. With a body and abilities unique to the Shinkan, it fights alongside its master as a partner in battle. They can fight the enemy in melee whilst the user fights from a distance, vice versa, or they can both attack from afar or both attack up close, depending on the preferred approach and situation. They possess their own mind but obey the will of their creator.

Their equivalent of Bankai or Letzt Stil is for the Shinkan to unite with their Shugorei and become a single being. They undergo physical changes to reflect the merge, their reiatsu and reishi absorption rate massively increase and they adopt new abilities based on the capabilities of their Shugorei. The spirit remains conscious even in this state and serves to support their creator in battle through their guidance.

Shinkan could probably use some expansion but there's the basic idea at least. And wiki mentions the 1-in-50'000 thing for Spirit Mediums but I've no idea where they got that info. :hmm:

Typo. I originally called them Arahoushi, meaning Armed Monks, but then swapped it for Shinkan but I didn't catch every reference apparently.

Houshi is monk, so I guess Knight left an artifact from a previous version of this character in?

Arahoushi translates as 'ferocious armed monk' when I stick it into Jeff's J-E dictionary. Interesting - but not as interesting as a Persona-esque zanpakuto materialization fusion dood.

Fuck you, ninja knight guy. Also, Shinkan can apparently translate as Fuse, as well as Heart and Annexe. Appropriate, hm?

Y'know I notice that the Shinkan's Shugorei isn't all that different from what Unohana (and Orihime after a fashion) has; a zanpakuto that transforms into a living being. Seems a bit redundant now.

Back to the drawing board I go.

The Shinkan idea reminds me of the Tamer Class from Night Wizard!, which by the way I really want a translated version of the source books.

All I have so far is the Wikipedia article and this.

It has some really interesting ideas, and has expies of some popular Anime Character types.

Tamers sub for "Monster Show" characters like from Pokemon, Digimon and similar shows.

Medium Tuners are explicitly referenced as beings similar to Stands.

Hero's are a character class that when they fight bosses get boosts in stats and access to special attacks. In other words "Shonen Style Powerups" as a character class.

Returners are basically expies of Servants from Fate/Stay Night that have been reincarnated and get "Noble Phantasms" as artifacts.

Edge Masters unlock their Intelligent weapon's potential similar to what of a Shinigami does their Shikai and Bankai, and similarly can only be used by their "chosen master".

Killer Machine's are "Child Soldiers" in the vein of Sosuke Sagara and Heero Yui.

Hmmm.... basing some of the inhabitants of Hell on the Emulators who assume forms intended to be disarming or to manipulate their target's desires could be interesting. They can assume the form of anything from walking skeletons to the Demon Lords (who make themselves look like various Moe archetypes in order to be more acceptable to humans).

A "Demon Race" that has a basic human form but assumes an alternate "archetype" based on the Emotions they are linked to might be interesting and could be a good in universe explanation for Old School Fae who were decidedly not nice.

"Fairies and Elves" originating as Demonic races is a rather refreshing change from the norm, and hold truer to many of the old stories of how they are capricious and often times cruel.

I might have to do something with that later. Especially since it does tie in with aspects of my earlier Cambion idea.

So in mentioning Night Wizard! some inspiration hit me, particularly around the whole "Edge Master" class.

Name: Artifacts, Tsukumogami, Cursed Items, Magic Tools, Poltergeist, etc.

Category: Non-"Living" Soul

Overview: Throughout human history many have attributed supernatural power to objects. While many of these superstitions are unfounded myths others have been the result of Witches, Fullbringers or other Spiritually Aware Humans either creating such items or channeling their power through mediums.

In rare cases however an item does exhibit supernatural power of it's own.

Known by countless names throughout the ages, these "Artifacts" have been treasured, fought over, and cursed as tools of Evil Spirits through the ages due to their "Magical" powers.

In truth no one is exactly sure what mechanism causes Artifacts to develop Supernatural Powers. Even when created from organic material the "Souls" of these items were never considered "alive" like humans, plants and animals. As such they exist outside of the general paradigm into which all other Spiritually Aware beings can be broadly classed under.

What is known is this.
1. While not always necessary Artifacts often come into being when an item is exposed to high levels of active Spiritual Pressure, such as battles between Hollows and Shinigami or when in the presence of Spiritually Aware human who use their powers frequently.

This is not always the case as some Artifacts develop powers without exposure to Spiritual Pressure, leading many to believe that these overt displays of Spirit Energy merely serve as a "Trigger" for a naturally occurring process.

2. The Powers of an Artifact are based on not only what the item was intended for before becoming an Artifact but how it was used, and it's importance to it's owners.

This is remarkably similar to a Fullbringer's abilities further reinforcing that the "Powers" of an Artifact appear as a result of a natural process, and that Fullbringer's also use it in a similar manner.

3. A Fullbringer cannot use an Artifact as their Fullbring. Having "Naturaly Triggered" the "Artificial Enhancement" of a Fullbringer is ineffective on an Artifact.

Abilities:

Artifacts possess a vast array of abilities based on their shape, origin and use prior to becoming an Artifact however there are several common abilities they all share.

Varying Levels of Intelligence: All Artifacts have the inherent desire to be used. Most are little more intelligent then a particularly intelligent pet, however some display problem basic problem solving abilities and the rarest have wills of their own.

However despite possessing Sapience these Intelligent Artifacts are restricted by their desire to be used, which dominates their thoughts. As even the most powerful of Intelligent Artifacts need wielders in order to draw out their fullest potential they seek to influence anyone in their general area to use them.

In the case of certain Artifacts who cannot be conventionally used this inspires a great deal of anger and resentment causing them to lash out at humans.

Telepathy: All Artifacts possess varying degrees of what is commonly called Telepathy. It is not really "mind to mind communication" but an ability to read the thoughts and emotions of an individuals Soul.

Artifacts possess the ability to implant "desires" to use their power in a Human convincing them to use an Artifact. Most often it is only influences a human slightly, and the lure of their power does the rest. But in the case of Intelligent Artifacts they can inspire obsession in their wielders.

Of note is that no Artifact can truly control another Soul, only influence them or in the case of Intelligent Artifacts conduct "mental" conversations. They can also "cloud" the minds of those around them to prevent people they do not wish to be involved with from noticing them, though this is largely ineffective against Spiritually Aware individuals.

Like all Artifact abilities the extent to which Telepathy is used is dependent on how strong an Artifact is.

Telekinesis Whereas all Artifacts have Telepathy a rare few have Telekinesis as well. This allows them to move from place to place, positioning themselves in places where they can be found by people they feel can use them. Combined with Telepathy this can be used to appear in unexpected places, and seemingly "return" no matter how many times one tries to throw them away.

As such many incidents of "Poltergeists" are in fact Artifacts acting out.

No matter how powerful an artifact is it's telekinesis is generally weak, with the most powerful only being able to lift and move about fifty pounds, though this limit does not apply to an Artifact itself, which can move itself at will.

Spiritual Growth: Artifacts grow stronger with age and use. All Artifacts are dependent on Humans in order to activate the full extent of their power, and without a user are generally limited to only Telepathy and Telekinesis.

For example two Artifacts of equal strength if one is used for a year and the other left in storage will grow at different rates, with the used one gaining power exponentially, while the other only grows a very small amount.

In addition if used by a Spiritually Aware individual the Growth Rate will increase dramatically as the Artifact absorbs trace amounts of the users Spiritual Energy.

However Artifact Growth is still a slow process with only artifacts that have been around for more then a Millenarian having the ability to do anything meaningful to any Hollow stronger then a Gillian, or any other Spiritual body of equal strength, making them more suited to being used on Humans, whether or not they are Spiritually aware.

However exceptions have been known to occur.

Since they are "Alive and yet Not" Artifacts generate their own Spiritual Energy, and can be "exhausted" and need to "rest" to restore their strength. The amount of time this takes and the maximum Energy of an Artifact is dependent on their age and power.

Signature: the general term for the special abilities of an Artifact. As they are formed by memories and usage this varies widely.

Similarly it's "importance" decides just how powerful the Artifact is when it "triggers". Something loved and cherished as an heirloom for decades will be more powerful at the start then something which has only been used for a few years.

One thing of note is that if an Artifact was close to someone who valued it while the individual died, or was used to kill a large number of people then it will be generally more powerful then other Artifacts and likely to eventually develop Intelligence as the decades go by.

Example Artifacts:

Cleopatra's Necklace: a jeweled necklace said to have been worn by Cleopatra when she died. Study has shown that it does date back to that era. It was stolen from a "private collection" of a Class A Spirit Medium in 1957 and no one knows it's current location.

Signature: the necklace grant's it's wearer supernatural insight into how to manipulate others to serve their own goals and a degree of "control" over the emotions of others, allowing them to seduce their targets and exploit them.

Outlaw's Revolver: a revolver from the Old West. While it appears to have turned rust red it is still smooth to the touch. Various stories have attributed it to such famous individuals as Jessie James or Billy the Kid, however the condition of the gun makes it impossible to say, as most defining characteristics have been removed by the "rust". Legend has it that the rust is in fact the blood of all those it has killed over the years, though most consider this ludicrous at best.

Signature: able to fire "phantom bullets" of spiritual energy this gun never needs to be loaded, and the "bullets" which dissolve within minutes are undetectable by modern forensics, though the damage they do is clear. To the Spiritually aware they appear as glowing red "bullets". Originally only as powerful as an ordinary revolver from the Old West, after decades of passing between various hitmen who use it for "untraceable" killings the bullets now have the power to punch through all but the most advanced of Military Body Armor.

Headchopper: a guillotine blade used during the French Revolution to kill countless people, many of them innocent. As an Intelligent Artifact it wishes to be used and has long tried to influence others to do so. However it's unwieldy nature as a prospective weapon has led it to be abandoned, causing it to use Telekinesis to "behead" people close to it with surrounding items, leading many to consider it cursed.

It is currently held in the Vatican Archives "Malus" section, hidden away with many other dangerous Artifacts.

Signature: Decapitation Strike: any blow dealt to the neck of an individual with this blade will behead a creature, no matter how durable they are.

Nikola Tesla's Amazing Battery: A prototype battery made by Nikola Tesla around the time he died. It looks like a large cylinder of copper with wire wrapped around the top and two "stubs" of molded copper welded to the top.

Signature: This "battery" absorbs Spiritual Energy from the surrounding area and converts it into stored electricity, which can be "tapped" by the user for various effects. Commonly used to discharge blasts of electricity it also protects it's holder from it. Unfortunately weighing about 25 pounds and being over a foot in length it is rather unwieldy.

It is often used to power machines, though since it does not confer protection on humans when doing so this is quite dangerous.

Obtained and studied by the SS during WWII, and then seized by the Soviets Paranormal Division it has seen a great deal of use as it's owners ignorant of it's ability to absorb Spirit Particles have tested it in attempts to replicate it's seemingly endless power. The last remaining records of the Battery indicate it can store enough energy to power a modern City Block for up to a month.

After the fall of the Soviet Union like many of the former Superpowers Artifacts it was taken by "private interests" in the new regime. Some say it is still held in Russia, others that it was sold by the Russian Mafia for a large sum of cash. No one is quite sure what actually happened, and it has not been seen for years.

Gaki Slayer: a Katana from feudal Japan, wielded for centuries by an Exorcist Family belonging to the "Heavenly Lotus" society which has long protected Japan. Prior to World War II arguments over whether or not they should involve themselves in "mundane affairs" led to this Society collapsing in on itself and many of the Spirit Medium Families to devastate themselves in a hidden Civil War.

Naturally this attracted large numbers of Hollows who further depleted the number of Mediums. In this time the wielder of this ancient blade used it's "special ability" to slay many "Hungry Ghosts" before dying in battle against an Adjuchas. Emboldened by his actions the remaining Exorcist Families were able to push back the Hollows, aided in secret by Shinigami working to protect these humans.

Sadly this came to late as the slow movements of the Central 48 took time to assess the situation, and the infighting of the Exorcists led to many of their strongest dying early on. Due to this the number of Spirit Mediums in the Japanese islands was dramatically decreased as unaffiliated families were dragged into the Heavenly Lotus's civil war, and then devastated by Hollow attacks. Many still bear a grudge against the families of the society, though the Family that hold Gaki Slayer is generally looked upon favorably.

Signature: used as a medium to conduct the Spiritual Power of a strong S Class Exorcist, during his life it was used to slay many Hollows. Upon his death it "triggered" with the ability to do incredible damage to the Spiritual Bodies of Hollows and Hollow related lifeforms.

While weaker then a Shinigami's Zanpakto, as it cannot handle even an amount of Spiritual Energy equal to an average Lieutenant being conducted through it, this blade is still one of the more effective weapons in the World of the Living for dealing with Hollows.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay so I know this is somewhat ripping off of Warehouse 13 but I think it is a good explanation for many "Magic Items" not created by Witches, Magic Hunters or other "Humans" who deal in the Spiritual world.

Furthermore since Artifacts grow in power with use, and do so in even greater terms when wielded by someone who is Spiritually Aware, they serve as a great plot device for the various inhabitants of the Human World to fight over as unlike "tools" mad by the Quincy's and others they cannot be reproduced.

Also it allows otherwise "weaker" Spirit Mediums and the like to "punch above their weight class" if they get their hands on a powerful Artifact.

So any thoughts?

Had a similar sort of thing myself for the initial rough draft of what could Keigo and Chizuru gain powers from. Granted nothing particularly notable on their end, but the idea that artifacts hold power was certainly one that appealed on some level. Particularly since there's arguably some canon basis for it, if nothing else we have the Giant Flaming Chicken Spear thingy and filler wise we have stuff like the king's seal and the Bakkoto in general. Put a different spin on Fullbring artifacts and then go full on crazy with it and you have a lot to work with there to say the least. :sisi:

I should mention that each Artifact is unique and it is difficult to copy them as study can damage them beyond repair. Also they are rather "unappealing" to Hollows as their Spirit Energy tastes "Stale and Musty"

I have a few more "Non Human" ideas to help counterbalance our desire for "Hybrid Races".

Sacred Trees and "Revered" Spirit Animals are going to be a thing once I do a little more legwork, though the latter is a much more kinder approach to what I did with Witches and their Familiars.

What I intend for Golems and Homunculi is not. Basically those two are what happens when Humans figure how to create something quite similar to Mod Souls, but they are stuck in the bodies they are "created in" and will be just "different".

In particular Homunculi will focus on "body horror" as they are going to lack spells and most forms of energy attacks. So yes there will be tentacles.

Basically these two are what happens when unscrupulous "Scientists!" of various Spiritual Disciplines decide got drunk and tried to see how many "Sins Against God" they can cram into their experiments.

Here is a rough draft for "Sacred Trees".

Name: Sacred Tree

Category: Spiritually Aware Plants of various species.

Overview: While generally Humans and in rares case Animals are born Spiritually Aware in remarkably rare cases Plants can develop Spiritual Abilities.

In most cases the plants don't live long enough to gain any truly impressive abilities. However in the case of certain kinds of trees who can live upwards of a Century they have developed some unique powers.

Throughout the ages Spiritually Aware humans have cultivated these "Sacred Trees" valuing their protective power. In addition weapons and artifacts made from their branches possess the ability to efficiently channel high amounts of Spirit Energy making them ideal for "Magical Tools".

Sadly as humans have moved away from the "Supernatural" in the past few centuries it has become harder to protect these Trees habitats, and many of the various subspecies created by generations of cultivation and breeding have gone extinct.

As each breed has a distinct "flavor" to their Spirit Energy these breeds where each adept at creating items that are effective for different purposes. With the loss of so many Sacred Trees the demand for this high quality Spiritual Conductor Material has greatly increased, causing many of the more unscrupulous elements of the Spiritually Aware community to "poach" from the remaining Trees further reducing their number.

Finally Hollows despise these trees because of their "purity" and will seek to either avoid them at all costs, or in the case of more powerful or arrogant individuals attempt to destroy them on sight.

In the end the various subspecies of "Sacred Trees" are considered by and large an "Endangered Species".

Abilities:

Purification:

Rooted in place Sacred Trees had to develop a means of defense so that more aggressive species, such as Hollows, did not feed on them. In time they developed the ability to "Purify" Spirit Energy reducing it to base Spiritron Particles.

While the area of "Purification" varies by species and the age of a tree one thing remains constant. The purification field is most effective on Spiritual Bodies, and in particular Hollows. While only the oldest and most powerful trees pose the risk of truly damaging a Spiritual Body they do greatly "weaken" it leaving them more vulnerable to attack as it attempts to break down the individuals body.

Long term exposure to Sacred Trees is detrimental to the Health of Spiritual Bodies, though Spiritually Aware Humans can adapt to their presence without much incident. However they always feel a light "pressure" when in their presence.

Unfortunately as this Purification is a constant effect as a result of evolution the various "Spells" and other energy based attacks of most Spirit Arts are significantly weakened in the presence of this field, forcing combatants to rely on physical methods.

Conversion:
Just as trees absorb carbon dioxide and release Oxygen so to do Sacred Trees absorb Spirit Particles and convert them into fuel for growth.

Though it varies by species this has been none to create many odd mutations, such as Apples that remain fresh year round and restore a measure of Spirit Energy upon consumption or trees that are so durable that they can be hit by lightning and not receive any serious damage.

It is this ability to absorb and channel Spirit Energy towards growth that makes a Sacred Tree so well suited for being used as a material in the creation of tools for the various Spiritually Aware communities the world over.

Combined with their ability to Purify Spirit Energy into a base form of Spritrons this allows Sacred Trees to grow stronger by feeding on Spirit Energy in the surrounding area, not only providing defense but increasing their "food supply".

Domain:
While all Sacred Tree's possess a "domain" that is the range in which their Purification and Conversion abilities work a handful of subspecies possess the ability to particularly enhance or damage certain forms of Spirit Energy.

For example trees that grow in arid regions can automatically use their "purification field" to gather trace amount's of water particles around the tree, or in other cases use this field to "dampen" heat and fire within the field by suppressing the Spirit Energy associated with this phenomena.

Needless to say the wide variety of effects that can be achieved via this Domain drove many researchers to study their effects throughout history, and through careful selection breed many unique subspecies, each one suited for different "Magical Tools" based on the effects the wood had "in life".

Examples:

European White Oak: While these trees have a very low ability to Purify foreign Spirit Energy in the air once it is absorbed and "Converted" it greatly increases their Physical and Spiritual durability far beyond most other Sacred Trees.

In addition whereas most wood from other Trees ceases to absorb Spirit Energy upon "death" White Oak wood continues to absorb Spirit Energy as long as it exists, though it is limited by the capacity of the wood. This makes it highly sought after as a form of "battery" to store power in and tap into at later dates.

Once the most prized of Sacred Wood due it's incredibly high quality in storing Spirit Energy it was used extensively by the Ancient Quincy. However during their war against the Shinigami many were destroyed due to being seen as "War Materials" and the wars of recent centuries have destroyed even more, leaving it as one of the rarest and most valuable of all Sacred Trees.

Due to the strength of the material involved in their creation White Oak Tools have been known to last for upwards of Nine Centuries.

Japanese Shrine Sakura Tree:

Of all Sacred Trees these "Shrine Trees" are most effective at purifying and converting the Spirit Energy of Hollows. Even an Adjuchas can be quickly brought low by the field of a century old Shrine Tree, weakened to the point that they can be slain by even an unseated officer of the Gotei 13 with minimal effort. In addition Cero's and other "special abilities" literally fizzle out within these field.

Unfortunately most of the tree's growth is focused on their "purification field" and working towards extending it, leaving them far frailer then most other Sacred Trees. This along with little success in creating viable "new growths" makes them a very rare sight, especially in the modern age.

In ages past before the Gotei 13 and development of defenses against Hollows spiritually aware individuals often migrated towards Sacred Trees, seeking to use their special abilities to protect them from Hollows.

While advancements in defenses have long since phased such methods out amongst the Spiritually Aware Community (SAC) the sheer power of these Shrine Tree's is still considered useful, especially due to the devastation of the SAC in Japan during the early 1900's as brought about by the Civil War of the Heavenly Lotus society.

As such they are viewed as "Status Symbols" amongst the various Exorcist Families of Japan. Of note is that the families who have lived in their presence for generations have "adapted" to use their Spirit Energy without being "purified" further increasing the tree's importance as it weakens enemies trespassing on their territory whilst leaving their own power undiminished.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I wanted to doe something with "Sacred Trees" considering there importance in so many myths and legends, and this was the best I could come up with.

In addition to being used for materials for all kinds of "Magical Items" by the various groups in the Human World they also address the loophole of "what was protecting humans before the foundation of the Gotei 13 and the creation of Zanpakto's?"

While I like the idea I admit it could use some work, so does anyone have some suggestions on how to make this idea better?
