Nasuverse Cursed Wishes...

Just a odd idea that appeared sometime back that still needs a bit of fine tuning. Anyhow having failed to destroyed the tainted grail, Kotomine dead and both Saber and Gilgamesh having faded away to the Throne of Heroes, and forced to watch as Fuyuki is burnt to the ground once again, a dying Shirou unthinkingly wishes that he could redo the 5th Grailwar over again and get it right.

A wish that is unfortunately for him granted by the tainted grail and Emiya Shirou finds himself redoing the 5th Grailwar always at the moment that he summoned Saber stuck in a time loop till the day he gets it 'right'. Only the grail twists his wish so that while Shirou might repeatedly fight in 5th Grailwar he never actully remembers doing so. It is only on a unconscious level that he retains any real memory of the previous loops...

Until the events of Heaven's Feel good ending where Shirou dead yet at the same time still moving through sheer force of will is forced to uses everything that he has, everything that he is to fuel Excalibur and destroy the tainted Grail. Only to awaken staring up at Saber as she asks him if he was her master and remembering.

I figure that Shirou would be pretty disparate given how he has no way of knowing if he'll have any memory of all of the previous loops if he continues his repeats.

Would he be able to combine what he knew to become a more effective tracer?

Possibly though it'd probably take him a good bit of time to figure out how to do so. Somewhat ironically one of the major problems he has are his memories of the previous loops. Each of the paths that Shirou took in FateStay Night created a different person with different beliefs and strengths.

It sounds like too many rewrites of the same damn scene actually. That could get boring.

Oh, I dunno. Ever seen Groundhog Day? Or the episode of Stargate, where they're stuck in a time loop?

Lulz happen. :p

"Verily, I ask of thee: art thou my Mmmmpghlk?!"

Shirou, who was too busy trying to taste her tonsils to answer, grinned inwardly. Screw it. I know this is going to end badly, but boy is it worth it. Now, how did her armor unbuckle again...?

Not really. This isn't Shirou doing a groundhog day, at least not in the way I think you're thinking.

Shirou only remember subconsciously any memories that he had of his previous battles in the 5th Grail War up to the point the good ending of Heaven's Feel. It was only after that he actully remembered the previous repeats and even then he has no way of knowing if he'll remember anything if he continues to do them.

The only thing he knows is that he has this chance to end the constant looping. He's gotten all the endings in the game, good and bad, and knows all the players but on the other hand that comes with it's own advantages and disadvantages.

And to make matters worse he has to try to get things right but right by whose standers? His? The idealistic version of himself?

In a way you could say that he's playing Russian Roulette without being able to see what the gun he's using or just how many bullets it might have. And where the stake are quite a bit higher then simply dying.

Can't believe I missed this the first time I read this thread, but yeah, that could end up being very amusing. . . :snigger:

Hmmm, it could be interesting, but isn't that what the whole idea of Shirou being Archer from the future is supposed to be?

It's an interesting idea, but it sounds a wee bit too much like Groundhog Day and Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni for my tastes.

On the other hand,
like Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, your idea has psycho cake, which is always a win.

But would the cake be a lie? Or would it be a trap?

It is implied that Archer is a different version of Shirou. No matter what path he takes Shirou will not become Archer.
