Title: Darkscribes got attacked!? Author: (Tom)

If you haven't noticed, Darkscribes has been offline for the better part of today.? Yeah, I just noticed this about half an hour ago.? It seems that Darkscribes was attacked with a Denial of Service attack.? Ended up eating through almost 15 GB, yes.. you read right, 15 gigabytes of data in within one day!? The access log file had over 290 thousand accesses from a single IP address, I don't know about you but I think that constitutes as a Denial of Service attack.

I have determined the offending address and have blocked access to the site on the web server level.? I am in contact with the web hosting company that hosts Darkscribes to see what they can do about it.

4chan, probably.
No, 4chan would have been many attacks leveled from various proxies.

This was one attack from a single IP. Someone with a grudge.

Anyone who DoSes a site without using a proxy is a stupid moron and doesn't deserve a net connection anyway. Whoever did this is going to have a visit from the cops pretty soon.

yeah, a single ip dos is laughable.
It probably took him about 5 minutes to contact his upstream provider and ask that they be blocked in order to resolve it.

Serious attacks use thousands of addresses, with trivial amounts of connections from each.
Some of the smarter ones will even rotate out ip's automatically if you try to block them.

I'd wonder if it wasn't an accident. Why would anybody DDoS Darkscribes? And who can send/receive 15Gb of data in one day? It might be an accident of some sort, especially if somebody misconfigured a script they have to check for new stories and download them. Cock-up before conspiracy, I say.

Very possible. Incompetence > malice.
