Here there be spoilers, ye be warned...
Anyway, I really liked how they faked us out with the trailers.
Though, I have to admit I was not in the least bit surprised by the fate of X-Force. I was kind of expecting it to be honest. They foreshadowed it a bit too heavily.
I also don't think that was Vanessa in all those scenes where Wade went "to the other side". I think it was Death.
There was always something "off" about her in those scenes, and she seemed to know more than she should. Especially in the last scene they are together pre-credits. She seems aware that he's being brought back to life, which seems a bit beyond what Vanessa would be aware of, especially considering it involved time travel. Death on the other hand would be able to sense that kind of thing.
It does fit with comic lore really well and I'm pretty sure they are alluding to it throughout the movie, but never expressly give it away. Death was trying to seduce Wade into staying dead using Vanessa's form, but is ultimately unable to keep him.
We all know his relationship with Vanessa can't last, even if the after credits scene is canon and he does manage to save her in the end.
In fact, this incarnation of Deadpool is likely to break things off with her himself after what happened to her in this movie. He saved her, but ultimately the fear that it might happen again will get to him.
It would be a nice reveal for DP3 or the X-Force movie to have Death reveal herself as what she really is and try to seduce him again when he ends up damaged enough to die temporarily.
Honestly, the Wade/Vanessa relationship has kind of played its role after this film, and I expect them to already be broken up by the next movie Deadpool appears in.
It also opens up the possibility of her showing up as an antagonist with mutant powers as his ex-girlfriend, not as a main villain, but perhaps working for whoever Wade is up against.
Does he have to kill the woman who he loves and broke up with to protect? How does he handle a situation like that? I think that's going to be the central conflict of Deadpool 3, which will probably happen eventually.
They also have X-force to plant the seeds for this.
Juggernaut was not nearly as well done CGI as Colossus, but it was still nice to see him done reasonably well in a movie. I was also kind of expecting him to lose his shit over the fate of Black Tom, but it never came up.
Overall, I liked the movie, but didn't think it was as good as the first one. It was probably about as funny, but lacked the story cohesion of the first film. There wasn't really a central villain in the story and it kind of flits about. That works for Deadpool, but made for a lesser movie in the end.
