We've all read at least one or two. Fanfics that DEFINE a genre, that set a bar that forces all other fics in that same venue to be compared to it. Be the comparison good or Bad

So lets list some of the Definitive fics you've read and what Genre they defined for you:

Genre- Ranma Stuck as Girl/Chooses to be a girl.

Pretty much any fanfic discussion I've come across about Ranma being permantly a girl, or acting femine will at the very least have a passing mention of this story. More often Girl Days is held up as an example as to how to do a 'Stuck as Girl' Ranma story RIGHT....

Genre- Rifts/Ranma X-over, possibly Rifts/anything x-over.

Daniel Ruth got it right... I like Rifts.. I also like Ranma/Rifts stories when I stumble across them, well most of them anyways. But Journey Bar NONE is the superior written experience. Ranma's Journey first through Palladium, then Rifts earth (Currently Atlantis) is both well paced and enjoyable to read. THe mix of Rifts element is done so that it doesn't overwhelm the Ranma element of the story, nor does the Nerima wrecking crew overwhelm the Rifts element. If your going to write a Rifts X-over, I highly recommend you read this story as an example how to do it RIGHT...

Genre- Naruto on a different Genin team

Not only well written, but most other fics int his genre have Naruto suddenly sprouting some new bloodline, or becoming UBER Naruto almost immediatly afterwards. This Story on the other hand focus's more on the charcters than introducing neat jutsu's and quite frankly is what i compare other stories int his same Sub-genre to.

Genre- Star Trek/B5 X-over war story.

Most of the time when I see a B5 x-over I cringe.... this on the other hand is a war story that fits right up there with professionaly written works. Now if only the author weren't so EVIL with Cliffhangers :headbanger:

Realms Link
Genre - Crossover where main characters become gods or something of a similar powerlevel

Out of all the stories where Ranma becomes a god, or something equally powerful, I like this one the most. It kicks ass 'nuff said.

I will add more when my browser stops messing around.

Hawker pretty much redefined the bar for the "What if Motoko+Keitaro had lost to Tsuruko" fics.... ^_^

I personally felt that The Youkai and the Exterminator set a good standard for Sango/Sessh pairings, but this genre does not seem all that popular, judging by the relative scarcity of such fics...

The Bitter End by Zen is *the* Ranma darkfic IMO (link is to the file rather than a web page)

Why hasn't anybody mentioned Artemis' Lover? That has to be the definitive sick fic! :sick2:

Because even with as perverted as we are here, most of us pretend it doesn't exist.

and now i present to you the fic (fics really) that in my mind is definitive for being some of the sickest shit ever put on a screen. agony in pink and agony in pink redux

this fic is so sick that most of us in the power ranger community do our best to forget that it even exist.

frankly i only made it about half way through before i closed the page and and started throwing up.


to top it off its not well written

Agony in Pink is one of the sickest pieces of fanfiction I've ever read. I managed to force myself through reading it. It's poorly written and written by someone who gets off on torture/snuff in a way that is extremely disturbing. The author ought to be commited and I really need to wash my brain out with bleach again after you brought it up.

I wish I hadn't though, I did vomit from the damn thing though. It is only worth reading on a dare and even then you ought to get something from it and have lots of bleach to erase the memory and brain damage that results

Second Chances isn't the definitve Naruto time travel story for the sheer that the main character is Naruto in name only.

i just read both of those (well mst's)


and in terms of content agony in pink makes them look like something written by a horny twelve year old.

in terms of grammar a.i.p is better( at least in my eyes)


let me ask you, do either of those fics cause the entire tenchi community to cringe when ever it is mentioned

Genre: Cliche Generators

Mark Doherty's "I'm Here to Help" is a fic that I both love and hate.

I love it because it's so well written, and yet at the same time, I hate it because, whether it was the first of its kind or just a followup that did it right (and who really knows nowadays?), it is a fanfic that is widely responsible for the widespread phenomenom that is "Crystal Tokyo = Brainwashing/Will-Destroying Evil".

And no fanfic that has followed in its steps has -ever- managed to attain the sheer coolness of this fic.

Really? Both Akane and Ranma were IC at the beginning, and, to me, their changes throughout the fic were explained. Ukyou was a bit too nice and understanding, though.

Agony in Pink isn't all that disturbing. It could have been, but it's just too boring to be disturbing. It reads like a list of tortures from a textbook, with 'and she cried a lot' inserted at the end of each item. It's all just...

Kimberly suffers torture method X, and she screams and cried and wailed and begged for mercy, then she suffers torture method Y, and she screams and cried and wailed and begged for mercy, then she gets stuffed into her cage for the night where she cries herself to uneasy sleep, then is dragged out in the morning and suffers torture method Z...

Children of an Elder God: The definitive Neon Genesis Evangelion/Mythos mixture.

Neon Exodus Evangelion: The definitive Eva AU/ pop culture mishmash.

No Title by Michael Chen: The Definitive Ranma/Nabiki story.

EVA-R: The Definitive EVA continuation. They replace the final two episodes and continue from there in a very pretty audiovisual format.

The Best of Times: The definitive Ranma/Sailor Moon crossover.

Appearences: The definitive Ranma darkfic. seriously creeped me the hell out.

Yes, after they were released ,both were treated in such a manner. More established authors would in some cases even reference their craptacularness in their own work.


Yet I`m sure someone on FFN told the how ROFL Hawt they were.

Agony in Pink is one of the major reasons for FF.net starting a lot of the crap they have now in their rules. It's pretty much one of the things behind FF.net removing NC-17 fics from the site.

That is the thing that made me want to read it to find out why

The Definitive Ai Yori Aoshi harem fic is Necessary Evil by A-Z Mark II (followed by Home, its sequel)

He also wrote the definitive RahXephon harem fic as well called Compensation.

Tenchi Muyo is known for its harem fics, but most of them are pretty bad. I do like The Clone Chronicles, however, since it offers a more reasonable and ethical solution to Tenchi handling these needy women as individuals. I really don't know who wrote that one. It appears under several names on TMFFA and Mediaminer.

The stories in those three fandoms makes it unneccessary for me to write in them. They've been put in their place properly and anything I did would be derivative.
