Apparently this is supposed to be an interquel between Adventure 01 and 02.
Actually no it is not.

Adventure 01: 1999, Taichi is 11

Adventure 02: 2002, Taichi is 14

Tri: 2005, Taichi is 17.

We don't know why the 02 kids are not featured.

But given the previous trailer had "this is the world and future that should not have been chosen" in it people are thinking Time Shenanigan's might be involved.

Given that Millenniumon was basically responsible for setting the events of Adventure 01 and 02 in motion through blatant Paradox Defying Bullshit this is actually not that far fetched.
Oh so its kinda AU?
It looks to be that way. But not enough has been announced to give us any hard evidence.

Oh and here is a another announcement.

The artist of V Tamer has said that something related to it is going to be in the next issue of V Jump and posted this picture on Twitter.

Man this stuff is really taking me back..........

We will find out more about the V Tamer thing soon. Most people speculate it is simply a reprint, but we could be surprised!

A translation of new content on the Official Website has Tri taking place three years after 02.

So 02 is a part of this even though the cast introduced in it have not been seen yet in the promo's.

For some reason the Digital Gates closed, and no one has been able to contact the Digital World for a time.

Then all of a sudden a Kuwagamon appears in Odaiba and starts wrecking things.

Taichi runs off to confront it and laments being unable to stop it without Agumon.

All of a sudden his Digivice lights up and he hears a voice say "Taichi, you sure got big!"

That is all we have so far.

So this was just leaked online.

And it looks like Alphamon either killed, incapacitated, or Retconned the 02 cast.
Here is a rough translation of the Opening Monologue I found over on With The Will.

The origin.
There exists the creator of the universe without a soul, Demiurge, and the true form of the world, Idea.
A single soul without shape exists as chaos.
Demiurge knows not of the existence born within itself, it knows not of the soul, it knows not of Idea.
The world created from itself goes on as a shadow of the true world.

Man does this make me have flashbacks to Daneel Rush's Gospel and Babylon Stories.

Just watched it on crunchy roll. I thought it was fantastic. Very well written. Where does it go from here? Will they be reproducing more?

Finally got to watch the whole thing, felt very nostalgic and I can't wait for the next movies. I find it interesting to see the government more involved with Digimons in this series, it's a nice change and I like the concept, hopefully these guys don't mess up like Hypnos did back in early Tamers. Talking about Tamers, the new style for the evolutions reminds me of how they did it there, with the whole covering the mon with an egg and then taking away the skin/textrue to show the mesh underneath to then recolor it as it evolves.

Meiko, the new character, was cute but I feel she was just there, I hope the next movies development her and I liked how the Chosen just welcomed her to the group, but that just makes the absence of the 02 cast feel even bigger. I am not sure how to feel with what hey did with the 02 cast, I know people hated them but it's almost like they were retconed and the Chosen didn't even notice.

I can understand why Taichi is worrying so much about the collateral damage and how that makes digimon look, but a part of me just feels he hesitated too much but I understand that this is part of him developing as a character. I feel that Taichi might try to handle Alphamon with a method other than fighting, and maybe talk with the big guy to understand why he is suddenly attacking. I have to add that Yamato is really trying to help Taichi, but sadly nothing he says seems to drive away the doubts that plague the leader over this whole mess. Besides that I loved seeing the original Chosen again, specially Mimi and I am not sure how to feel about how sidelined Jou was the whole movie, but I guess that's part of his arc. Shipping wise Toei gave hints to almost everything including a lot of Taito but I really don't care since my favorite ship got some hints and that's what this really is about.

Alphamon was imposing and it really drived homed how strong he was and how he was just playing around, still find it weird how he never talked in this, but I hope we can learn more about him in the next movie.

Aspects of the movie I liked:
1.) Mimi's a bit of a troll and fabulous.
2.) Izzy's obvious crush on her is cute.
3.) Tai being concerned over the collateral damage shows he's come a long way. But less hesitation would be better.

Aspects I question:
1.) Why did they wait until the fighting with the other digi-destined started before they evacuated the airport? I mean, when a dinosaur and giant beetle shows up, it's time to get the people out.
2.) WTF was Joe doing? Is his girlfriend eating up that much of his time?
3.) Why did they break it up into 6 movies with 4 episodes each. This should have been a whole season.

Next Movie coming out in March, btw.

And spoilers on plot summary:

Determination is out on Crunchy, and DAMMIT, MEICOOMON! Leomon almost went the entire movie without dying! At least Gomamon and Palmon went Mega. Though, everyone underreacted to Ken's reversion to being the Kaiser. Hopefully that Imperialdramon was a copy and V-Mon and Wormmon aren't dead. Finally, here's a low quality image of the poster for the next movie.

It appears that as per tradition, Patamon will be the last to go Mega.

I kind of feel like there's some high-tier mind-fuckery going on with the kids, just because they only seem aware of 02 when something prompts it. Like, Ken shows up and they immediately recognize him and seem to have the understanding that he had been a villain at one point, and they recognize Imperialdramon, but none of them have questioned where Daisuke, Miyako, and Iori are, and they don't question Imperialdramon being there when it would require V-mon and Wormmon. So it kind of seems like they saw him, and were able to have the "Ken was the Digimon Kaiser, and he's dressing like that again" and the "That is Imperialdramon" thoughts click in their heads, but without the logical thoughts that would follow: "We stopped Ken and he was our friend afterwards" and "Imperialdramon is the combined form of Ken and Daisuke's partners. Hold up, where's Daisuke?"

If I were going to compare it to something, my first thought is in the Dresden Files, in Small Favor, where Dresden gets mentally manipulated to not use his fire magic and doesn't even think about it until someone directly asks him. It's kind of more conspicuous by its absence than anything.

All it took to get Izzy to come was seeing Mimi in a cheerleader outfit. Dude's got it bad.

I'm waiting for all the movies to come out to binge it.

From what I hear about the movies so far, this seems to be a better idea as time goes on.

New Digimon Multimedia Project, Digimon Universe Appmonsters has been announced in the latest V Jump.

Toys, a Videogame and a new Anime are coming this fall for the "project", and going by the above image it seems that it will be Smartphone based.

Could work, have been saying a phone based version makes a lot of sense. Doubly so if they go the Megaman: NT Warrior route.

Confession out and... whelp. Vampire Patamon. HeraklesKabuterimon being awesome. The Royal Knights showing once again they are the Gold Saints of the Digimon. The Mysterious Masked Man takes out the mask.

Also, Homoeostatis inside Hikari.

Bloody hell the info-dump oif the latest Tri. episodes!

Also, we welcome the coming of our new Rapeface Overlords!

Sora nearly got crushed and possibly molested by Gennai, Meiko got strangled and went limp, and both Tai and Matt nearly drowned. Tamers wasn't this dark.

Attempted suicide vs all the things I said, plus Himekawa's insanity at the end there. Plus, it's still not over.
