Sho shakily got off the bus. He usually had no problems with transportation, but in this case...

"Ugh, hopefully I won't have to sit through something like that again."

After taking a deep breathe in an attempt to quell his motion sickness, Sho straightened up and looked around. Most of the others had taken off, presumably to fight the battle. He thought about finding one of them, but decided aginst it.

"Unlike those guys, I don't have a partner. Right now, I'll just get in the way. Besides, it should be safer here anyway."

Right on cue, a large group of flying, flower-shaped Digimon approached the bus. One of them flying into and breaking a window of the bus.

"Oh shi- Gotta get out of here!"

Sho took off, running as fast as he could to the nearest building. Unfortunately, the sound of his take off attracted the attention of some of the attackers.

"Nuts Shoot!"

"Crapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrap!"

Just before any of the seed bullets could hit him, Sho dived into the building. Just then, Sho realized his mistake. He was now lying prone on the floor, wide open to any attacks. He quickly turned his head towards the door... just in time to see several of those flying, flower Digimon enter; however, before any of them could attack...

"M16 Assassin."

A spray of gunfire rained down upon the flower Digimon. Surprise registered on their faces just before they exploded into pieces of what Sho assumed was data.

"Phew, close one."

Sho then looked towards the direction of the gunfire and found... nothing? No wait, upon closer inspection, a shape stood out from the rest of the environment. It appeared to be a type of camoflauge. If Sho hadn't been inspecting that particular region closely, then he might have missed it completely.

"Ah, thanks for saving me," began Sho tentatively, "Umm...."

The shape stood still, as though it was contemplating something before it... shifted. The grey color that allowed the shape to blend with its surrondings changed into varying colors of blue revealing a figure in soldier garments holding a gun. Unlike the soldiers Sho were familiar with, this one was short, even shorter than Sho, who considered himself to be somewhat of a runt compared to others his age. What stood out even more were its features. It had a snout, a mouth full of sharp teeth, and a tail. Furthermore in place of hands, it had claws, how it managed to operate its gun with those, Sho did not know. Its skin also had that blue camoflauge pattern that matched with its uniform.

"I am Commandramon," it said.

In a scene that was becoming entirely too common, Naomi woke to the shadowed gaze of the owner of their base, his head entirely too close for her liking. "Get out of my face." She muttered, picking herself off the pile of books she'd been scouring over.

Wisemon stood upright at the comment. "You're a lot less hostile when you're asleep." He noted idly, as she checked the chain for the necklace that she kept under her shirt.

Naomi sighed, satisfied it was still there before stretching her arms slowly. Her entire body still ached dully, but that was to be expected given everything.

The sun filtering in through the massive stain glass windows of the creature's incredibly huge library served as a good wake up call. It still amazed her that this was only a small part of the incredible castle Wisemon had created inside his book, a castle surrounded by a suitably serene landscape, littered with forests, rivers, and even the odd mountain standing foreboding in the distance. She not have enjoyed having to bear being with him alone practically all the time, but at least his home was absolutely amazing.

"Just because I'm not aware of it is no reason to be so close." She said, before returning her gaze to the books.

"I take it you didn't find anything yet?" The digimon said, as a pen and notepad materialized before him as he jotted down yet another note, as if trying to annoy her.

"No." Naomi muttered, annoyed. The greatest disadvantage their side had was that travel between points often took far too long to be effective, whereas the enemy had gained the ability to effortlessly travel between place to place instantly.

Wisemon had been the one to suggest using his domain to rectify this, which marked the first time he'd ever offered to be of aid to any capacity since she'd met the annoying creature. Since his policy had always been to simply watch from the sidelines and jot down any little new thing he managed to learn from her, nearly everyone had jumped at the chance to put the vast stores of his knowledge to actual use. All they had to do was place one of the duplicates of his book that he'd created at one of ten locations in the digital world, specified by the fact that they were a focal point for a large part of the worlds power.

They'd sent off the entire group one by one to find those locations a week ago, and two of them had managed to reach their destinations within the last week. And yet neither point had been connected when they'd gotten there. She'd spent four days trying to figure out why, forced to bear with having to search the massive catacombs of the creature's library and find anything of use in the place. A situation that could have been made much easier if the creature had used any form of organization at all when he'd stored the books, or if he could actually remember where he'd ever put anything.

Of course Wisemon didn't seem to notice her increasing agitation, as he suddenly seemed perfectly satisfied taking a seat across from her and continuing to stare at her.

Naomi gave another sigh. "What is it?"

"You know," he started, as if he'd been waiting for her to say that the entire time, "I think you're thinking too hard on this."

Though she couldn't see his face, Naomi knew he had a smug grin on his face. She slammed the book she'd been running over before exhaustion had taken her harder than she'd intended. Though it actually detailed the finer points of inter-dimensional travel, the material was far behind her anyway and she'd been getting nowhere with it. "What did you learn?"

"You know, I was just looking through some of the books I used to keep up in my room for a bit of late night reading. I'd honestly forgotten I'd even had a few of those. A Greymon's guide to Greymon was one of my favorites for a while honestly, and needless to say Baking with Growlmon-" He started casually, before she cut him off.

"Spare me the story, why isn't it working?"

Wisemon paused. "I thought adding a story to give someone else a bit of context was preferred."

"There's a time and a place." Naomi said, pushing her glasses further up the bridge of her nose. "I've spent four days in here doing nothing but read while you did virtually nothing to help, a story is only making this take longer."

"Right." Wisemon said, jotting down yet another of his notes. "Well, you've been so busy pouring over the concept and figuring out why it should work, that you managed to completely miss why it isn't."

"Cut to the chase." She said, not amused in the slightest.

"Of course. You see the inter-dimensional pathways connecting using the nexus points as a focus works under the assumption that the nexus points in question are operating in stable conditions, however with things as they currently are that assumption is-"

"The Point." Naomi said darkly.

Wisemon paused, a bit taken aback by the sudden forcefulness she showed. 'Humans are incredibly amusing.'

"The problem is the fact that the Dark ocean has breached into our world. The entire fabric of the digital world has been compromised. The nexus points are now dormant."

Naomi rubbed her forehead gingerly. "So I basically sent them all out there for nothing?"

"Well if someone activates the alters the corresponding nexus point will stabilize, and connect right back to here. Of course doing so would required..."

"I get it." the girl said under he breath as she pulled out her digivice. She pressed the buttons a few times before a miniature keyboard appeared which she began to carefully thumb through.

"Sending a message to the other humans?" Wisemon began, though his voice was ignored. Her expression had darkened, not in annoyance as he was used to, but something deeper.

He'd been with the girl a long time, having caught his interest for the first time in years to see a human in the digital world. He'd seen her lose her first digivice and have to watch her partner battle countless fights completely unable to help. He'd seen her partner's ultimate demise. He'd seen when she'd received her new digivice now, and he'd also seen when none of the 7 had been compatible with her, leaving her the only one among the 4 without a partner among so much more. He'd also seen the slow realization of the others among the group that she was steadily becoming nothing more than baggage.

Of course being useless was probably something she never tolerated, no matter the strange circumstances that brought her to this point. No wonder it looked like she hated it so much right now, even if ultimately not much had changed from before.

Wisemon suddenly stiffened as something familiar finally entered the range of his vague senses outside the book. 'Perfect.'

"Well, enough lounging around in here." Wisemon said, snapping his fingers. In an instant the incredible library around them was suddenly replaced with a gigantic stone room with a massive crystal in the center. To her it probably seemed as if she'd suddenly been moved to another location, though in reality all he did was shift the entire castle to position themselves where he wanted in this specific room. It was his dimensional space after all, shifting it around a bit was child's play.

Naomi scowled as she suddenly fell to the floor, the seat she'd been in a moment before now gone. "Give me a little warning if you're going to do that." She said, annoyed, as she pulled herself to her feet. "It's annoying enough as is, but at least make sure I'm standing beforehand."

Wisemon jotted down another note, before gesturing to the crystal. "Looks like trouble's brewing outside."

The crystal distorted, before steadily becoming clearer as the world outside came into view.

"The ocean... why the hell did Tatsuo leave the island?"

Wisemon blinked, before turning down to his notebook as he started to flip through it quickly. He paused suddenly on a particularly old page. "Ah, right, your eyesight isn't as good as mine. Just a moment."

The crystal's view shifted again, before zooming in on the landmass that had just been on the edge of the horizon to the human girl a moment before. Smoke was raised everywhere as small explosions lit up the tiny view a few moments before dying down again.

"A battle? What's going on over there..." She said, straining her gaze a she tried to make out what was going on. Though the only thing she noticed was something looking suspiciously like a bus suddenly being tossed through the air, torn into two pieces that broke apart and flew off in different directions. A moment later one half of it suddenly was hit by some projectile and exploded.

"While I imagine the explosions are quite amusing to you, could I direct your gaze a little further in?"

Naomi shifted her focus away from the battle, trying to find what he was talking about. She didn't really see anything noteworthy, certainly none of the attacks were coming from that far away from the fight-

'There!' Just for a moment she'd caught it, something large and green peeking out from the outskirts of the fight, just on the edges of normal scanner range from the middle of the battle. The young woman couldn't resist giving off the wicked grin Wisemon was so used to when she had set off into battle with her partner.

"Tatsuo!" Naomi yelled, her voice directed to the top of the room, where Wisemon had rigged it so that a loud enough sound would travel outside the confines of the book. "It's Vanity, hidden among those ruins, dead ahead!"

~*~

It took but a moment for the young man to go from perfectly relaxed with his partner atop the Archelomon they'd beaten into ferrying them across the ocean, leaning against the massive bump now adorning the creatures head, to alert and ready for battle.

Tatsuo Hayashi, the oldest amongst any of the tamers(maybe?), lit up a smoke as he approached the battle from the ocean. His partner DORUmon was beside him, on top of the creatures bump, as if showing it's dominion over it, which to be fair, was probably an accurate way of viewing the situation. It hadn't been too long ago that Pumpkinmon had informed him of a battle occurring and a request for his presence was made.

He let out a sigh kicked the turtle's head bump "Hey, stop slacking off!" he growled annoyed as his demand for speed increased. He didn't have the time to be slowed down like this, if only he'd fought an aerial digimon instead. "Tch."

"S-so cruel" was all that could be heard as it sped up even more, completely at the mercy of the Hayashi and his partner.

"Tatsuo!" Naomi yelled, her voice coming from his own D-Synchro as she spoke from, Wisemon's own home which it had rigged it so that a loud enough sound would travel outside the confines of the book. "It's Vanity, hidden amongst those ruins, dead ahead!"

A smirk made it's away across the usually apathetic man's face as they neared shore. He then used his D-Synchro to scan the single black dot representing said digimon up ahead. He almost groaned as he finished up.

"Hrm? Vanity, is it? You hear that?" He said looking over at his dragon beast partner, who was a bit busy growling, eyes slitting dangerously as if he had just heard the name of the guy who killed his family, took his car, ran over his dog with it and took a piss on his lawn. "Right....let's just get started, shall we?" His partner nodded in agreement "You know, I wish you'd talk more sometimes, it's bad enough that I'm surrounded by just children in this place." With that he took out his D-Synchro.

D-Synchro Digivolution Start-up feature selected.......Synchronization 50%.....Type Selection: Data

In moments the small creature next to him had transformed into a much larger beast. Selecting the thought transfer feature he spoke to his partner 'You know what to do Dorugamon, keep to the air' he added as Dorugamon set off on a run 'Don't underestimate me Tatsuo, I won't ever loose to those bastards again!

Once up in the air Dorugamon flew as high up as he could, taking directions from Tatsuo's own radar in order to fly above Coredramon. Both digimon and partner knew it wouldn't be an even fight on the ground, so they chose to go with Aerial tactics instead. "HEAVY METAL!". Three blasts of projectile metal came from the digimon's mouth as it aimed for Coredramon's left side, aiming to strike at it's rib cage and leg muscles.

"...?!" Coredramon's instincts alerted him to the sudden attack from above and he moved to avoid the projectiles. One of them exploded near his feet, sending bits of sharpnel in his direction and drawing just a tiny bit of blood thanks to how sharp the pieces were.

"Che...! Like I'm gonna lose here...!" Whirling around, he powered a green stream of flame towards his enemy. "Green Flare Breath!"

I kicked the last of the Beedle wannabe's away, finally discarding that disgusting board.

Damn thing's slowed me down to much.

My Device was beeping again.

I waved away some of the weird dust the six of them that had actually died had made when they dissolved outta my face so I could see the screen.

Ambient Data. Load? Y/N

... Whatever.

Y

A ring of light appeared around the Device's screen under the Holographic display.

There was a strong gust of wind as all the wierd 'dust', or 'Data, was sucked towards that ring.

It stopped after three seconds or or so, the another little window popped up.

Data loaded, Purifying 90Gs...

Oookay. Moving on...

I took a few seconds to figure out which way I was supposed to go, before checking the map function.

Ah, I take that street and take the right turn...

The Dragon Beast's eyes widened at the incoming flame attack and it used it's wings to launch itself backwards so as to not be touched by the fire. Even so the fire was reaching quite easily. It was in that split second that Tatsuo spoke in his partner's mind as he observed through his eyes 'Dorugamon! Attack the flames, you'll take damage if you don't!'. Like always the man ordered the most sensible course of action.

"As if I'll let you touch me! Power Metal!" A Large orb of pure and dense metal formed itself and was fired into the flame, sending it back but also splitting it to the sides enough that the fire licked at the tips of his wings. Singeing the tips, filling the air with the smell of burnt fur.

One more good solid attack ought to do it to cover his exit. After all, considering that he had been found already, he had already overstayed his welcome.

And Kyouya should have a dark portal up and running so they can get out of here.

He focused himself and swung his tail around to smash the metal ball away before firing another blast of green flame at Dorugamon.

"Green Flare Breath!!"

'We will meet again. This I can promise you...'

Already well away from the range of Coredramon's breath attack, Dorugamon saw as his own attack was batted away as if it were meaningless, not a single wound inflicted, it was a shame, such a strong champion and his weakness type too. He growled and swerved to the side and flew above the dragon digimon to evade the flames completely this time sky diving to chase after it before it gained enough range to counter with another breath.

"HEAVY METAL!" Three sharp blasts of metal dropped down on Coredramon directly from above this time at a 90 degree angle with a sky-diving Dorugamon behind them.

Hachi's hearing had eventually returned after several minutes of uncomfortable yelling between herself and the creature she learned was named Labramon.

The pink dog had made it quite clear that it wasn't going to join in any more battles and continued deeper into a deserted clearing. Hachi's self preservation instincts said to follow her.

After making sure there were no creatures nearby they plopped down on the ground. Labramon making a noticeable effort to stay as far away from Hachi as possible.

Hachi still in awe that the pink dog saved her, took to observing her.

"What?"

"So do you change into something bigger like those other guys. Do you change into like Dogmon or something?"

Labramon bared her teeth at the girl, "I am not Dogmon." Grimacing, she added, "If you value your life. Never ever mention that name again to me."

Hachi got the hint. Wondering what was so offensive about Dogmon. She moved on and continued observing the digimon.

Labramon barked, "What now?"

Hachi flushed almost instantly, "I-I just wanted to know."

"Know what?"

"Are you my partner?" Hachi asked, holding her black device towards Labramon. "All those other guys had one." Cracking a tiny smile, she thought about how amazing it'd be if she had someone as great as Labramon to protect her. She was never allowed to have pets at home so it'd be nice.

"Of course not," Labramon said flatly.

Hachi's smile melted away instantly. She held up the device closer to the digimon, "But everyone else met their partner right away."

"I am not your partner." Labramon repeated, slapping the device away.

It hit the ground with a loud thud. Before Hachi picked it up, a loud voice came from it.

PARTNER DIGIMON SELECTED, CONGRATULATIONS.

Labramon stared at the device in shock. She opened and closed her mouth several times before taking a deep breath.

She then uttered a profanity so loud that it was heard all over the battlefield.
