Hey.

I apologize if this thread has been done already, or answered or whatever, but blame it on me being new if it has.

Basically, I was just wondering how many people here actually write fanfic, or whether you only read it.

And just to make it more interesting, what do you write/read (either genre or fandom)?

To answer my own question, I both read and write fanfics from a variety of fandoms (though, I am a really lazy writer and seldom finish my stories and even less often post them anywhere).

Read fanfic but don't write them.

I'd like to - and I can come up with ideas for story arcs and worldbuilding easily - but I struggle with thinking of an actual plot. And I honestly would rather read about ideas executed well by good writers rather than write them myself.

Most of my reading experience is with Naruto, Harry Potter and Bleach. But over the last few years I've branched out into Pokemon, Fate/Stay Night, RWBY, Avatar: The Last Airbender and a bunch of other fandoms with one or two good fics.

I read and write, but have found myself reading them less lately.

Not sure why, but sometimes, I find it hard to get into the writings of other people.

I attempt both, although reading fanfics tend to make me pissed at characters, making it harder to write them fairly...

Read and write. Mostly read.

Main Fandoms I read fanfics about are Naruto, HP, and Digimon with some minor ones thrown in.

Really wish there could be more Detective Conan fanfics out there.

I suppose, it depends on the exact definition.

I've been reading anime/manga fanfiction since mid 1999... But, over the years, I have written some stuff even if the bulk of it has never been placed on the Web/Internet.

Not counting the reviews, and beta reads, and collabarations...

- 1 Star Trek Short fan fiction story originally for a college creative writing course

- 1 Star Trek aborted fan fiction full story novel continuation

- 1 anime spam or omake type snippet

- I suppose, I could also include fictional fan based technical documentation. I have written off and on since the mid 1990's a series of documents outlining Star Trek Starfleet Federation fleet size/strength and reorganizational plans spread across multiple time frames.... Every now and then as whim strikes I go back to this and revise and add details and such.

Both. Some days it's more reading than writing, some days it's the opposite.

I think I've hit almost every major fandom, starting with Ranma. I've done Ranma, Naruto, Bleach, Harry Potter, Sailor Moon, Batman, Evangelion, Negima, Familiar of Zero, and currently the two fics I'm working on are a Kim Possible x Marvel fic and a Bayonetta x Worm one. I've also hit a fair number of smaller fandoms, although those stories haven't seen the light of day for the most part, but they include a Ghost In The Shell and Ranma cross, a Danny Phantom fic, a Frozen fic (yes, I know), some Ranma crosses with some of my original works, and a couple more I'm sure I've forgotten.

I read just about anything too, as long as it's at least halfway decent.

Edit: Forgot I did a Buffy fic too.

I tried my hand at writing. I seem to have good ideas and writing/grammar/etc, but my pace and motivation are so non-existent that I've basically given up on writing.

That's why I pretty much just read.

I mostly read, but every now and then, I have a brilliant idea. I'm rather lacking in execution, though - mainly because as an author, I'm similar to someone suffering from ADHD and can't keep my focus on one thing.

Most of my writing sits in my hard disk (and USB sticks, and external HDD), never having been published.

Read and write. However, the lack of a fandom with write-able material on my end has ground me to a halt.

Reading and a writing, though as I get older, I do less reading of fanfics. Partly because I grew up on the Ranma fandom, which was considerably huge enough to have their own monthly/yearly fanfiction awards and people had to make their own webpages to let the general public see their works outside of RAAF or the FFML. Partly because, with the advent of fanfiction.net, it had opened up its own Pandora's Box of sorts -- ease and convenience of posting stories means there are a lot more people posting stuff that... don't exactly titillate, especially when you're getting far more material from writers who are under 18 years old, whereas the pre-FFN days, most writing stories were at least college age, oftentimes older.

Also, too much reading of fanfics will wreck your ability to write it. Pick up regular books from time to time, read those.

I definitely do more reading than writing since I consume a massive amount of fanfiction every time I move into a new fandom. Still, I do do some writing, such as a MLP fic I did in the last week now.

I am mostly a reader, but I wrote a half finish Omake for a fanfic. I have a lot of ideas, but writing is like pulling teeth with me. I have a really good idea for a Ranma/Sailor Moon fanfic, with bios, background and the overall theme of the story. All in my head, I just can't seem to write it down.

As for my background as a reader. I started reading fanfic about 1996. I mostly just read Ranma fic but I always love xover. In the last 10 years I branch out to other series. HP, MLP, Naruto and other things.

I read, and write- though I rarely (read: Never) finish the stories I do start. Fruity Loops is my most well known (and well liked) story on fanfiction.net, which amuses me and no doubt enrages all the people anxiously waiting for an update on it. I joined the forum at about the same time I started reading and writing, so... there's that information for you. I was a roleplayer before all of that, as well.

Both, but I have a very long update time (though not by some standards) due to wanting the quality to be as high as possible...

I'm surprised... seeing as how many of the members here are writers... how come there are so few member written fics or works in progress posted?

Am I missing them or is it just the general consensus that most of the members are just lazy authors and not writing that much recently?

I think a lot of people don't actually post their stories to TFF anymore.

Yeah, I don't really post much here anymore when it comes to fics. The main fics I'm working on have much larger fandoms on other sites, Sufficient Velocity and Spacebattles for my Worm fic, and KPSlashHaven for my (obviously) KP fic. So I post them there where I get much more feedback on them.

Haven't written in quite a while due to real life issues and my muse being a fickle, irritating bitch, but I both read and write fics.

I read a lot, and I still write some. Almost exclusively in HP these days.

I haven't been posting new chapters or links to new chapters here because I came to the conclusion that either no one cares or the people who look are simply determined not to comment.

I read a lot more than I write (the only one I'm really doing is Five Earths, which I sort of stopped posting in this forum, due to nearly no interest being shown, in comparison to elsewhere).

#25
I both read and write, and currently is doing more writing than reading, because I haven't had much luck in finding good new ones to read, and the ones I'm following are updating slowly. In comparison, my story needs a lot of polish, and I'm giving it.
