Two categories here.
First category: most effective party. Not necessarily the most fun, but what is your party build when you absolutely want to tear through mobs and wreck shit? Also, what is your main class for this party, that matters a bit in regard to the best party.
I like Solas, Dorian, Cassandra, and my Rogue main. This has been very effective. Sometimes I'll switch Dorian for Iron Bull. I've got Solas set up for spirit magic so he's more valuable to the party than Dorian's DPS Fire Magic.
Second categroy: What is your fun party? The best characters to group together for dialogue and pure entertainment. How effective they are as a party on a technical level does not matter. These would be characters you'd group together just to hear them talk, or because they are just plain fun to use.
I'm still figuring this one out.
Varric has a lot of fun banter, especially when paired with Cassandra. Dorian is entertaining as well. I've also enjoyed some of Sola's dialogue, but more because he plays a good straight man to the others. Iron Bull also proves entertaining.
Who I don't like: Sera and Cole. Cole gets repetitive very fast, and Sera isn't nearly as funny as Bioware wants her to be. She's random and weird and the game just doesn't allow for the sort of timing for that to work.
Vivienne is rather bland, she's the least interesting of the mage and doesn't speak much. I don't dislike her, but she's not very interesting.
Still not all the way through yet, but I'm taking my time. Definitely going to give it another runthrough after I finish with Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2, which is my next project as far as gaming goes. At least, that's what I currently have planned anyway.
