Not here to hype, but to inform. This is also where I'll post a review after I play through the game. Though if you have any reservations at all I would encourage you to wait a few months (up to a year) before buying.

It appears I can wear armor and caste spells....Finally, I can create the warrior I've always wanted.

Home Page

Gameinformer has an article on the game

Some highlights:

Dragon Age fans already know about the breach in the sky. It is a giant tear that opens up into the Fade, the realm from which magic and demons originate. However, the trailer reveals that circumstances surrounding its appearance are catastrophic. Not only are thousands of people killed – they are thousands of important people. The blast accompanying the breach’s opening occurs during peace talks between the mages and the Chantry, so it takes out some key players. “The very highest level of both the Chantry and the mages were at these peace talks,” Lee says. “And they’re all dead. Those two factions are absolutely in chaos. Essentially, the head has been cut off of both groups.”
So basically all the people willing to talk peace in that conflict are dead....oh goody.

Your character, the Inquisitor, is the only survivor of the blast. You don’t remember exactly how you survived, but the circumstances are bizarre. “You survived this blast, but you actually walked out of the Fade when the soldiers found you,” Lee says. “So, you get pushed into the Fade, and as a consequence, you are marked.”
....That can't be good.....Didn't the spirit Justice originally possess a human corpse? I never played the expansion so some info on this would help.

Confirmed info:

DA: I Polygon Info

And for the first time, in Dragon Age: Inquisition, the series' Qunari race — both male and female — will be playable, joining humans, elves and dwarves. Players will be able to assume direct control of their followers and have a wealth of combat options available to them.
Dragon Age Wiki

Combat in Dragon Age: Inquisition will have a greater focus on strategy than in Dragon Age II. Party health will not regenerate automatically after an encounter as it did in Dragon Age II and Dragon Age: Origins, and mage characters will not be able to repeatedly cast, or "spam," healing spells. Similarly, the ability to carry healing items will be limited, to instill a need to adequately prepare for combat and exploration
As in both previous installments, the player character can be one of three classes; warrior, rogue or mage. The player will have the ability to choose one of 4 playable races - human, dwarf, elf or qunari - and of either gender. Body sliders will not be available to customize the player character's physique; rather, the engine will support differing body shapes for each race. Two voice sets will also be available for each gender: in the English version, one will have a British accent, and the other, an American one.

Known Companions

Recent Updates

In order to control the Inquisition, players will speak with three different commanders. Each one of these figures control a different aspect of the faction and, like the player character, can each be upgraded. How fans choose to improve the Inquisition through the use of the commanders will make an actual difference in the game as the army has its own skill and benefits and each commander represents a separate skill tree. In a way, the Inquisition provides an alternate form of progression that can drastically change the way the game unfolds.

....

“There are apparently three facets to the progression of the Inquisition, led by a particular character each,” Gameranx said. “Each one of these facets has its own talent tree and through them, you unlock various benefits for the player character and the Inquisition. Benefits include the ability to strengthen your soldiers, bring in more gold, or give a personal boost in gathering crafting materials.”
All nine companion characters set to appear in Inquisition will be contained within the base game - something that previous Dragon Ages (and Mass Effect, for that matter) had typically spread across both on-disc and downloadable add-on content. This is a result of lessons learned: Darrah and Laidlaw admit that the studio has found it tricky to add party members through DLC.

"Because of how deeply enmeshed in the system companion characters are, we can't just add them on the fly; part of them has to be shipped on the disc," explains Laidlaw. "Which has led to criticism that we're forcing people to pay for content they already own. It's not the case, but we've decided this time to not go that route. There will be no DLC party members."

Of the nine companions, four are already known well by fans: Cassandra Pentaghast, a knight of a secretive religious order known as the Seekers of Truth; Varric Tethras, a dwarf and returning party member from Dragon Age II; Vivienne, a powerful mage from Orlais; and Solas, an elven mage who serves as an expert on the Fade, the mystical other realm which has begun to spill over into Thedas. .

BioWare reveals to us two additional companions on the list: Iron Bull, a one-eyed mercenary and outcast from the Qunari faith, and Sera, an elven archer. Little is known about them at this point, particularly Sera, who turns up seemingly by accident during one of several combat demonstrations - but we'll likely find out more soon.

"BioWare's greatest strength is its followers," says Darrah. "Long after players forget a mission or the storyline, they remember our characters." As with all BioWare games, building rapport with party members is central to the experience. Lead writer David Gaider explains that this entry of the franchise will introduce a new and refined system for character interaction, one which splits the difference between the dialogue wheels found in Mass Effect and Dragon Age II and the more diversified text options from Dragon Age Origins.

Information on some of the companions

Iron Bull
Huh...so that makes him like Sam from 'Burn Notice'...I can dig that.

Blackwall
Sounds like a Paladin....should make him easy to manipulate....he might just get that heroic sacrifice he's looking for under my command.

Cassandra
Hmmm, I like her already.

Vivenne
I think I've just found my political advisor....

Sera
Ah good, I need someone to remind me of the smallfolk.

It does look like a good game, and I encourage people to check it out based off what I have seen. I also admit it might not be for everyone and suggest those who are on the fence or are just a touch hesitant wait a week before buying just to get a general feel for the game. I figure people will be posting Youtube videos of the first few hours and if you watch those you'll have a better idea if the game is good fit for your library.

I will of course be posting a review of the game eventually in this thread, but since unlike most reviewers I will not be speeding through the game to reach a deadline, it may take awhile....especially since I am also getting "Shadows of Mordor".

One thing that has annoyed me are the comments I've seen on three different forums concerning Biowares decision to make this character:

(who reminds me of some strange fusion of T'pol from Enterprise and Kess from Voyager)

a female only romance and this character:

(who, no joke, has the best looking mage Armor I've seen in all three Dragon Age games)

a male only romance.

I have seen gamers accusing Bioware of pushing some kind of Gay/lesbian agenda and/or stating Bioware is pandering to minorities. I just kind of had to shake my head at this kind of thinking and hope it's just a small vocal group.

Anyways, someone asked a valid question on BSN so I will repost that question and answer from the dev team here:

So, who sat down and thought that it was acceptable to have ONLY a head and and chest slot for equipment on everyone including the PC?

Is there an explanation for this, because Jesus Christ is that a huge blunder in my book.

Cameron Lee, on 09 Jul 2014 - 11:08 AM, said:

Hey all,

To clear things up. A suite of armor can be modified with separate boots and gloves in our crafting system, that's why you see only one slot, it's all combined. The same goes for weapons where you can change the hilt, blade etc. We'll go into crafting and loot in a lot more depth later on.

All right, seems someone released some Achievments for DA:I. Now these aren't confirmed, and I won't post all of them...but what is here might be spoilery and interesting. Read at your own risk

A Long Time Coming: Defeat Corypheus
Oh. Oh, this is exciting news! I knew that son of a ***** had slipped by Hawke...but that's fine. Where Hawke failed the Inquisitor shall succeed.

Fight Fire with Fire: Tame the Dragon
.....Bioware if you allow me to summon a Dragon into battle and make it Awesome I will forgive all the issues I had with ME 3. All my gripes, gone, wiped from the record...if I can call myself "The Father of Dragons"

Belle of the Ball: Have extremely high court approval
Since I plan to play as a Qunari mage I think this might be tricky. Hmmm....what looks good on a Qunari and works for a court ball?

There are many more and the can be found here.

Well at least the combat system looks better then ever. DAO had the best narrative but its combat was boooooooring with DA2 being the opposite. Let's just hope this new one will go back to Origin level narrative.
