English-Japanese Translators

For the longest time, I've been looking for websites that actually translate english to japanese well. So far, I haven't found any. Anyone nice enough to link me up?

I have used babelfish a few times. It is okay, I guess. Since it translates the words literally, you will have do a bit of sentence restructuring yourself.

Does Babelfish show romaji? That's basically what I'm looking for. I have a few jutsu names in mind for my friend's fic (I'm her beta) and no way of translating them.

I wouldn't bother. Going with Romaji wouldn't capture the puns that are likely to be present in any number of the canon techniques; plus if you don't include the English people are going to wonder what the hell the characters are saying; and if you do include the English, such as in parentheses after the Romaji, it's clunky -- at least in my opinion. Just use English and follow KISS principles.

One very good Japanese <-> English translation site is http://www.df.lth.se/cgi-bin/j-e/tty/dict

I've found it to be easy to use and fairly accurate too. It doesn't show kana or kanji unless you have butchered your computer's language settinggs though. If you need those, for whatever reason, I recommend the program JQuickTrans. Admittedly, I haven't used that program in a long time, but it used to be free, and easy to find on DC or Google.

Well, I say, "Learn Hiragana and Katakana, and use WWWJDIC." It's what I do, as I'm in the (slow) process of learning the language.

I've been pretty good at finding/making character and technique names, so if you need a hand, PM me with the details.

Well... one translation might be: boukon taishokukan

I don't know any Japanese outside of normal fanfiction and a few phrases from shows.

The best translation I can come up with is reishokudoubutsu, coming from the kanji for "spirit" and "carnivore" (substituting "spirit" for "meat").

It's accessible, but "doubutsu" is a reading that connotes animal qualities. "Reishokumono" might be more to the intended meaning if the soul-eater is a sentient human-like entity.
