Evangelion Evangelion AU: Sentai vs. Mahou Shojos

#1

Okay peoples, here's the low-down:
------------------------------------------

The year is 2015. Second impact ravaged the world more than a decade ago, and the human race is barely on the fringe of survival, trying to make ends meet. One of the few safe places in the world is the fortress city of Tokyo-3.

After 14 years, the Angels have once again reappeared in our world.

Fortunately, NERV has been preparing for this day...

EVANGELION, RIDE!

Anyway, this is a Neon Genesis Evangelion alternate-universe. Instead of utilizing classical-Evangelions to combat the Angels, the pilots instead run around in Eva-esque power armor.

Shinji is a fan of power armor/the super sentai genre as a whole. He has posters and action figures and DVDs of Tekkaman Blade, Kamen Rider, all that good stuff. Sure, you get cool weapons and gear as part of the package...But as he will soon find out, being a super-sentai isn't all it's cracked out to be.

The members of NERV's Sentai-Squad? Shinji Ikari, Touji Suzuhara, Kensuke Aida, and Kaworu Nagisa.

HOWEVER, as they try to do their jobs of being Tokyo-3's teenaged saviors, they realize that they're not the only ones competing for that title.

Also combating the Angels/showing up after the Angel-battle are their rivals: a mysterious group of what are apparently Magical Girls. The members of this group are Rei Ayanami, Asuka Shoryu, Hikari Horaki and Mari Makinami Illustrious. By NERV control they are dubbed MG-Blue, MG-Red, MG-Green and MG-pink.

Action and hilarity ensues because of the tensions between the two groups.

Though it may be an action/romantic comedy, expect deconstructions of super sentai and magical girl tropes a la Eva-style.

TL;DR - NERV uses Super Sentai and Magical Girls to kill the Angels, while simulataneously pitting them against each other to see which is the more effective method of Angel-control. Because they're manipulative scientists.

The boys (Sentai) use Eva-weapons scaled down to suit them, along with other skills and abilities referncing various Super Sentai shows. Vehicles are also included.

The girls (Mahou Shojo) use "Magic". Rei uses Water (and ice), Asuka uses Fire, Hikari uses Wind, and Mari uses Earth.

Beamspams and special techniques, ahoy!

And yes, there are costumes and staffs worthy of a true Mahou Shojo.

But here's the twist - both Mahou Shojo and Sentai, despite being bitter rivals, are actually both funded and armed by NERV without the other's knowledge. By forcing them against each other, NERV can see what is the superior anti-Angel taskforce. DEVIOUS!
They were developed using Angel tech, so AT-Fields are used, and most abilites are based around that.

Examples of events:
* Shinji gets kidnapped by the girls and is held in a warehouse for "questioning." They can't remove his helmet because it's too firmly attached.

Rei inquisitively pokes his horn. Asuka stomps his crotch out of anger.

* The girls and the boys pass by each other everyday in the Geofront and have interactions and the like. Irony happens because they're pretty rough with each other on the battlefield.

Pre-pubescent? So, they're ten or under, or are you using an unusual definition?

EDIT: Other than that oddity, its an interesting idea.

Hah hah, this would be awesome. Nice timing considering Puella Magi Madoka Magica & it will be fun to see Super Sentai once again. The competing squads brings to mind Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers & when the Green Ranger was introduced. Hmm, are Magical Girls mostly anime/manga while Super Sentai is are television shows?

Anyways, if this goes Eva-style until the end, I suppose everyone will turn into tang with realization all they did was for NERV/SEELE's benefit & not the world's. Wait, will SEELE still be around? Maybe Kaworu is their plant & they are making their own fighting group of some kind - a mass-produced group that utilizes the benefits of either method & recruits anyone useful.

Yup, the Magical Girls are mostly inspired by various animes (possibly the contemporary Madoka Magica as well, Rei is pretty much Homura-like personality-wise), while the Senai squad is derived from famous shows of the same genre...including the much beloved Power Rangers.

SEELE is still doing shadowy-organizational things, but what they are exactly might end up being somewhat different than canon. After all, there must be a reason why they're seeking data from two "EVANGELION" projects, right?

Kaworu may or may not be a spy for SEELE. He was, however, grievously injured to near-death by forcing his power armor beyond the recommended limits. Whether this was for "data" or not...

On an unrelated note, Mari is just as much of a blood-knight as she is in canon. Can you say "Stone Drill made via Mahou Shojo/Angel powers"?

And there will be Angelspawn. And the angels probably aren't as large as their canon-counterparts (more like 50-100feet, it depends on the situations), they are still dangerous to the continued safety of NERV and Tokyo-3.

Oh, it was more a question regarding the history of those genres, but your comment seems to support it.

Hah hah, I wonder if there will the Monster of the Week? syndrome. Some of the 'realistic' takes in Sailor Moon make it out to be pretty miserable. Since the two groups will probably try to get to the monster first as opposed to sharing the load, I bet when they meet at school or in NERV, they will have some strange conclusions....

"First come, first serve" is indeed the name of the game.

Although since the boys are PUBLICLY and OFFICIALLY supported by NERV, they always have a head start on the girls. Sometimes the Angel gets killed before the MGs even show up, which leads to squad-to-squad grudge matches ensuing because both teams have orders to "incapacitate and capture the others using whatever means necessary" - hence why Shinji gets kidnapped at one point by them and needs to be rescued by the others.

The Costumes:

Shinji = Unit-01
Kaworu = Unit...02? 00 possibly?
Touji = Unit 03
Kensuke = ...eh, help me out here. A rendition of Unit-04 as a silvery kind of EVA?

Rei = blue gothic lolita with a ridiculously short frilly skirt, sleeveless with long gloves
Asuka = red rendition with slight alterations. Thigh highs for sure.
Hikari = ...I dunno. Green, definitely.
Mari = Same as above but with tights? And it's pink.

Kaworu: maybe nod at canon by using MP-Eva costume?
Kensuke: TRIDENT or Jet-Alone? Mock him by giving him a MP-Eva costume, since he never gets to pilot?
These two aren't typical eva pilots, after all.... If necessary, Unit-02 & Unit-04 would probably work the best.

Hikari: Hmm, the GAINAX image uses orange & NGE -Anima- (pg7) image uses yellow....
Mari: I'd have to say, I have a soft spot for her initial green plugsuit.

Kensuke would go good with the spider tank like Unit-05.

Kaworu should get Unit-04.

Because he uses it in one of the games, Pinball oddly enough.

He rapes Rebuild Ramiel using Unit-04's huge ass shield, his ability to fly and the Lancea Longini...

That's twice he's used it now, once in Rebuild and again in the pinball game.

Unit-04 is just white Unit-03 with a big ass shield, though the shield may have been the shield Rei used in the movie...

Though Kaworu should flat out be the only one on his team that can fly...

Until Shinji goes omgwtfRAPEMODE.

If he does in this.

EDIT: looking at the supplied picture, Kensuke goe's with the green plug suit, so yeah, Unit-05 fits, plus it's the most mechanical of them, and thus the most Mecha, obvious Kensuke.

I'm inclined to agree with Aarik, here. Those color schemes and armor suggestions seem fine. Plus, Kensuke is unique because he'd be the "pilot" of a psuedo-vehice/sentai kind of thing.

Hikari gets orange, sure. Why not?
Although Mari liked her pink plugusit better. Also, it'd be somewhat humorous for the resident bloodknight to parade around in such a color.

Kaworu would be point man in the combat roles. Shinji....DPS, I'd reckon. Touji...I dunno. Standard guy, good backup, y'know the "Mario". Kensuke is...Kensuke.

In short:

Shinji - the hero
Kaworu - the lancer
Kensuke - the smart guy
Touji - the "big" guy

Now let's deliberate techniques and magic for the sentai and magical girls!
