Seems like it could be fun. Either Shinji is stuck with soulless ginger children, or we find out Penpen is the prize for the NERV personnel with the biggest bust.

Beware of Dog. Cat not trustworthy either.
Big fan of happy preggers Asuka, but what's with the elephant?
Subliminal Republican propaganda? It's got Trump's hair color after all. Otherwise, I don't recognize the critter from any other anime.

I will admit to finding that pic both very heartwarming and, being somewhat past middle age with no kids, rather depressing all at the same time.

Sublim...? Well, it's got a very trad-con theme, and it's anime, so maybe, but I'm skeptical.

As for me, I'm 31, so the fact that I'm currently unmarried and childless isn't as much of a problem.

The realization that I first watched EVA more than half my life ago, however, does make me feel old.

Gah, don't remind me. I was in my early 20's when I first watched Eva. God, how far we've come...

Of course it's true. Not that this is the thread for a 2nd Amendment discussion. While showering the other day (I get lots of great ideas in the shower) it occurred to me that Harry Potter is very similar. Cornelius Fudge wasn't talking about taking people's wands away just because of a terrorist group using wands, and the whole world is open carry from age 11 onwards.

And of course the wand is one of the sources of a wizard's identity. Which is why they make such a big deal out of snapping wands.

(I'm in agreement that this really isn't the place for a 2A discussion - I happen to like keeping politics out of my escapism)

But on that note I saw a crackfic once where Harry carried a .44 Magnum he'd gotten from somewhere (it's literally a Dirty Harry reference in the story) and uses it to kill the troll. And of course Harry's first year is set in a time when it was still theoretically possible to legally possess a handgun in the UK, so it was at least feasible.

Saw another where Lily's father was a war veteran who taught her to use a pistol, and she ends up sucker-shooting Voldemort in the head when he comes from Harry.

And there's always Old Soldiers, one of my favorite fics from Rorschach's Blot.

For a quote from a far different fan fiction involving a completely different Harry arguing with a unusual supernatural being about a number of items, including guns vs. wands...

"Oh, I know! But no one ever seems to agree with me!" she gushed happily, her previous hostility, however unthreatening it had appeared, vanishing as she apparently found someone who agreed with her sense of fashion. "All the other devils are always like 'show more dignity' or 'you're going to embarrass us if you go out like that'! Don't they understand that I'm really into Mahou Shoujos right now?"

"I know just how you feel," I agreed, nodding enthusiastically as I started to get into the mood I had somehow created. I always had time to bitch about the White Council, even if they were technically no longer relevant. "I get it all the time too. People are always saying 'why don't you wear a robe instead of that coat' or 'what kind of wizard just shoots someone'. It's the twenty first century people. Just because you never really trusted indoor plumbing because it's only been around for a century or two doesn't mean I have to pass up on it."

"I know, I know, right?" Serafall started nodding her head enthusiastically, laughing as she patted my shoulder repeatedly in agreement. "I can shape my magic however I want it, so if I want to shoot twinkling stars, it's not like it's hurting them or anything! And what's wrong with striking a pose and giving a speech about love and justice before a fight? It's so much cuter than those long drawn out dramatic speeches about how you're going to crush your enemy!"

"Oh god, I get so sick of those," I made a face, remembering just how many speeches just like that I'd gotten over the years. "After a while they all start sounding the same. And why should I waste magical power to make a fireball when I can just use a shotgun with Dragon Breath rounds? I mean, it'll burn the building down one way or the other, so who cares if it comes from my staff or my firearm?"

"Is he still trying to get guns?" Saji muttered, giving me a poleaxed look. Ise looked a little nervous.

"Wait, doesn't it sound like he's already shot people in the past like that?" the lecherous boy sounded slightly unnerved by the idea.
That is from chapter 3 of 'Beyond the Outer Gate Lies' by gabriel blessing

Hmmm... I never knew the riginal NGE dub had so many that disliked it. Except for the wierd way they addressed the children (ex. third children, instead of third child), I never really had all that much of a problem with the original NGE dub...

Yeah, the '1/2/3 children' vs '1/2/3 child' bugged me too. Never understood that. Okay, yeah, I know that's how it was in Japanese, but... meh.

Japanese doesn't have plural forms for nouns like other languages, so maybe it's a case of someone misunderstanding things?

Also, remember that the first series was the early days of anime making it here. It was a few steps above Speed Racer, but the scripts were in part based on what they had translated, so maybe the translator didn't know the context to change the nouns to fit better.

Alternatively, it may have been intentional in an earlier draft, as a hint about Rei's nature, and then it got used with the others in later drafts.
