@ragnarok1337:
If anything, YOU are coming off as arrogant.

I'm too tired right now to put up anything more than the link, but here.

http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6237069/1/Neon...osis_Evangelion

You should read it. It's good.
Here, you say you don't have enough time to state why you liked the story or what it's about, yet you had ample enough time to read the story, log onto TFF, find this thread, and command us to read it because it is "good".

ragnarok1337 said:
Wow. Exceedingly negative, anyone? I have been to many of the recommendations threads, and most of the rec'd fics aren't very far above that one in quality. And saying that most of the fanfiction is publishable in quality? Your standards must be as low as Twilight. Maybe as high as Harry Potter.

...
Now you malign us just because our tastes don't coincide with yours. You could have followed up with a simple explanation why you initially recommended it and we would have all been happy to let it be, but instead you engage in ad hominem attacks. That's is basically an invitation to be flamed; you couldn't have done better if you had doused yourself in kerosene first.

ragnarok1337 said:
Unless of course they thought you really WOULD like it. In which case your analogy fizzles out. As to Elvarein's comment...do you have any idea HOW many recommendations on this very board could fall under your definition of what makes an original story.
The analogy works more often then not. I can't remember a single time where my parents forced me to try something and honestly believed I would like it. Even after ample prior evidence of intense dislike of similar foods, they still said "try it, you will like it."
Also, as for your response to Elvarein, you do realize that his point was that your recommendation tried so hard to become an original story that it failed to be a good story?

Note: I am NOT saying that you should like this fic. If you don't like it, fine by me. I only recommend something if I think others will enjoy it. I guess none of you did. Fair enough. I did NOT want to make you "fall down in wonder" as Merscenary said. How arrogant of him.
Ah, but you did. You see, whether a story is good or bad is a subjective measure. By telling us to read it because it is good, you are imposing your tastes on us, and since you liked it we should also like it.

Also note, it's obvious that us not liking it is fine with you, because you not only had the need to defend your recommendation, you also felt that you should attack us as well.

I am just pointing out the holes in your arguments. Honestly, I've seen fics FAR worse than this in other recommendations threads, and almost none of them have gotten this negative of a response in as short a time.

As to your argument of just putting up a link...I don't even know why I'm bothering to argue with this. Have you even READ the other fic recommendations thread? For every 5 fics recced, there must be 1 without a description. And yet none of them have gotten as many negative replies as this. Even when the fic in question is bad.

And yes, Elvarein, I know what an "in name only" fic is. Can you honestly say that you have never read or enjoyed one? Do you think none of the people bashing me pointlessly have either? And I still don't think this is an in-name-only fic. Maybe a bit, but not to the extreme you put it.
Those fics often didn't get a response because nobody could be bothered. If the poster didn't put in the effort to do little more than provide a link, why should we put in the effort to reply? Your recommendation was unfortunate in that it was the first in over a month, thus giving it far more attention than it would normally would. Your followup posts just made it worse for you.

In short, you're taking this WAY overboard.
IMO, all the responses are quite mild. No one has called for your death, organized an inquisition, etc. You should see the some of the responses to Sean Mulligan's recommendations on the Harry Potter recommendations threads on SpaceBattles.

I briefly read the first couple of chapters, but all the "I did this" and "I did that" got kind of annoying. It's like the author wanted to write in first person, but doesn't really know how.

Yeah. "Dude, what? -are you smoking?" was my first reaction to this too, but it's turning out surprisingly well as far as... page 3, anyway.

NERV is making rings, [sarcasm] this can't help but turn out well! [/sarcasm]

I did not like that story, it used too many characters and the story was/became fragmented.

I'll probably get yelled at for suggesting this, but I actually liked Last Child of Krypton. As you can probably tell, it's a story with Shinji as Kal El story. Despite my misgivings when I began to read it, it's actually pretty good.

Of course, my standards may be a bit low.

"We have a problem," Ritsuko said, sipping her tepid coffee. "They're evolving."

"Well duh," Misato said, very, very tired of the Oh Captain My Captain part of her personality, and ready to let it rest for a while. Maya looked at her askance.

"Think about it. The first one had a range of capabilities- ranged and up close, and was fairly tough." She sipped her coffee again. "The second one focused entirely on melee and defense, which make sense, since the one before it did the most damage up close."

"Go on," Kaji said, sticking an unlit cigarette in his mouth.

"That one failed, so the next one comes along, and it focuses itself on pure offense. It's a glass cannon, basically. Slow and fragile, but so powerful we can't get close to it."

"Right," Misato said, "but we can adapt faster than they can. Each one is pretty much stuck the way it is."

"So far," Ritsuko said. "We're not sure. There's an X-Factor at work here, too."

"Which is?"

"Superman?" Maya piped up helpfully. Ritsuko gave her an amused look.

"Right. That beam almost killed the Eva, but from the gun camera footage from Unit-01, it barely singed him."

"Okay," Misato said. "So?"

"So if he can shrug off what will kill an Eva in forty-three seconds, what happens when the Angels start adapting to him?"
I say, this isn't the greatest masterpiece I've ever laid my eyes on, but it's entertaining.

Sometimes, we don't know what we have until we throw it all away. Oneshot.
Rated: T - English - Drama - Chapters: 1 - Words: 3,223 - Reviews: 3 - Published: 9-29-11 - Asuka S. - Complete
A short oneshot detailing if things had gone slightly differently with the "kiss" that Shinji and Asuka had, as well as a different version of the "Shinji absorbed by Unit 01" event. Well written, but the last part confuses me. Could someone explain it?

I'm confused as well. Is it because he doesn't want her to hate him? Well, there is the author's notes in his bio.

Orpheus was a little experiment in constructing a story with clipped scenes and liberal use of what my creative writing professor called "The Jesus Wept Effect".
I would like to see how Asuka interacts with him, knowing what his mother thinks of her.

Yes.

His dramatic stuff is well-written.

I don't like his comedy stuff as much. That's not to say that it's bad, it's just that some people can't do comedy as well as they can do drama.

And vice a versa

When I finished and looked at the author... I was not surprised. That's just what to expect from Kadmon.
