Decided near 3 months was too long without a search entry.
Anyone know of stories where Shinji succeeds in refusing to pilot. Either in the beginning of series, or in continuations afterward where they attempt to call him back.
See... I've of the general opinion that none were in any shape to pilot, or even want to pilot after the series. But I see it all the time.
I do recall one vaguely where he kept turning down Ritsukos and his fathers offers, and eventually the world was destroyed (sadly, that was over 10 years ago, and do not remember the name nor have it).
Recall another where they blamed him for post third impact (this was way before the latest movies) and they found Shinji a recluse in a mountain cabin where he tended to take a shotgun with him whenever he sat on the porch.
Recall another where he became a cop and they tried kidnapping him.
And another where he successfully killed his father after they kidnapped a shinji with mob connections (that one was 'Detective Ikari' by Mister Cynical)
There was AOI, where he was killed after attacking Misato... but not too sure I can consider that to fit.
But most are failures, as even if he resists, he pilots in the end.
Like the one he had drifted around and lived in South America... Nerv spent time tracking him down, even lost some lives over it, but he went in the end when they started threatening the village he was in (deleted in disgust).
Or the one where he did not pilot against the 3rd, but after being jailed and causing his father to go on trial, he caved when seelie offered in return for piloting to let him kill his father ('Vengeance' by Devil Boss).
Even being off planet is not guaranteed to be successful at avoiding being a pilot, as both at least one Aliens crossover and one Dr Who crossover have shown...
Or ones where he has become nonhuman, such as the Hellsing ones.
