Adam Kadmon has a new one-shot fic, Electioneering.

Its an AU rewrite of Evangelion, if Eva was a hotblooded Mech anime rather then a mindfuck, and its fucking brilliant. It has Best Gendo, by far. It stays true to its plot and is super consistent, every character is awesome, there is incredible writing skill (especially use of foreshadowing), and it actually makes internal sense.
Very much worth a read.

I'll note that the above is not for everyone.
Tried reading that quite some time back... the problem that I had was not writing quality, but it did not really come off as Evangelion enough to me... while I've read plenty of NGE and other fics that have the characters very OOC and still like them, and I've read slapstick NGE and still liked them, but to me it kind of misses the mark in changing he whole backdrop and feel.
I guess it does not help I'm not really a Gendo fan... To me, him being nice or in any way remotely loving or supporting or comic comes across a more creepy than interesting. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop.
