Wait ... what? Asking for money to read fanfiction before everyone else? <blinks>

In a sense, it's better than charging for access. A sort of beta-reader program, I think. Bit of an irony there, to pay for the 'privilege' to be a beta-reader.

Guess it's no different from some doujin creators who charge for their work. And (at this time), looks like he's got a few followers. Good for him. And nice of those folks to pay the writer. I'm ok with this .. I think.

well technically it's Pay me to Create things and you can be one of the first people with access to it, which is how things work IRL, OTOH if he had a surplus of chapters and was doling them with Drops in his Pay-to-read site? it would be an dickish move but still within RL business parameters.
and I kind of approve of the Patronage, because it should encourage Authors to keep writting and at least give an ending to their fics without fearing the brutal nature of their RL mone issues if they had enough Patrons to fund their arts.
OTOH it seems a little shady with copyright issues so... i'll stop my opinion there.

About the Fic, does the end mean that Ayako met Medusa or that she is permanently out of the fic?

The chapter was interesting... I would have preferred more fallout from the betrayal at the start. The simple fact of the matter is while Shirou might overlook such things, the target was not him but Ayaka, and I not only would have told the church exactly what was attempted on a contracted party by their representative, but also that due to it he would not be accepting any more contracts from them... The church after all contracts a lot of specialists and indiiduals, were something to upset all those individuals into following suite... the church will have taken a major hit. That may well get a whole bunch of parties put out with the church...

Overall I like the story well enough, I'm uncertain I care for the idea of fan fiction authors getting money for their chapters, mostly due to the legalities involved. Potentially it could draw a heck of a lot of attention that the communities do not need.

If you do not think it a big deal, consider the whole nastiness of the Star Trek debacle... of CBS/Paramount and fan films... I'd hate to see someone attempting to implement and enforce whacked out rules stating chapter sizes or story lengths... Their heavy handedness in that lost myself as a fan... I've yet to see Discovery, or desire to pay special for it since they decided to penalize U.S. viewers.

Also, I'll note in no way does this setup mean that there is a guarantee any particular story will finish with an ending.

If I remember the Star Trek debacle about Axanar - Paramount started going behind them after they attempted to sell Axanar branded merchandise. Before that, by and large they turned a blind eye to things. Or at least, as blind an eye as they could claim in court. The problem with that show, I think, was the use of former start trek actors and other associations. Without that, the producers could claim that they weren't aware of Axanar and still maintain a good hold of their copy-right. But the moment the fans reached out in a VERY commercial way, the studio had no choice - it was either to come to an agreement with them about splitting royalties (and to do this in a way that was fair to the existing contracts) or shut them down.

On that issue, my sympathies are with the producers - the fans did NOT make it easy for them to claim ignorance.

True. But it's a strong incentive - better than nothing.

Hmmm... for that matter, didn't a *real* author try this out once? I think it was Stephen King or someone. Don't remember how it panned out. But the scheme was pay him to write chapters.

Had Paramount and CBS limited themselves to Axanar it would be understandable... but in effect they decided to come down on the bulk of the groups doing fan films, not just them... The Star Trek Horizon fan film group for example was going to be starting a series, but was ordered to stop... (quality of the Premier movie is phenominal, though there is a bit more glare in the youtube version than care for). As it is Star Trek Continues and one now known as Renegades: Requiem (dropping the star trek name) are about the only ones continuing I'm aware of. The rest having either shut down, or changed format to comply with the new limits.

My concern here is authors doing that enough by asking for money may cause one or all studios to stop such nonsense and place similar limitations on such fandoms. Unlikely, sure, possible though.

FGO recently released their new official guidelines regarding fanworks, and going by those he would be safe as long as he doesn't earn more than a fanfic/doujin writer/maker would, so as long as he keeps his earnings at a certain level he wouldn't get hammered by them.

Here's the link to the reddit thread about it https://www.reddit.com/r/grandorder/comments/72lef4/new_official_guidelines_regarding_doujinfanworks/

Honestly, I would totally be tempted to pay for some of the stories to be updated (revived), or in some case show my gratitude for awesomeness of someones writing.

Actually a few TMFSN stories updated tonight

In addition to Path of the King, there is both of the following:
- 'A Demon Lord's Hero' by Fahad09 now at chapter 25
- 'God Slaying Blade Works' by Marcus Galen Sands now at chapter 42

That last is a monster chapter of 39,150+ words

Now, if only 'From Fake Dreams' would update.

Neoalfa's Path of the King, Chapter 42
Glad to see this updated.

Is it just me, or is Caster actively attempting to slowly get Shirou a harem? If so... she wants him to live on the dangerous side, considering whom she has approached so far.

It was nice having Rider freed that way and that quick from Shinji... pity it does not seem to be that way for Sakura...

There are two good Konosuba crossovers with Shirou.
