Man, I wish it was possible to romance Yuffie for real. I always tend to have a soft spot for the Genki Girls but they never get anything nice.

ALSO would be much less disturbing then the usually preferred Yuffie/Vincent pairing. Ugh, the guy is old enough to be her father.

Nah man, Mew totally was there at one point. It's just, well... this happened.

Yeah. Funnily enough, I got into the whole Cloud/Yuffie thing after reading a KH2 fanfic.

It was just there as eye candy. It's just a floor tile marked as 'inaccessible' so you can't walk on it.

My guess is there used to be a lot more scenery, and most of it was taken out or never finished being made once they realized just how little cartridge space they had to work with.

The first time I played through, during the Jenova LIFE fight, I couldn't keep it together, I lost because I was distracted by my own crying.
Interesting, I had a different reaction...blind rage. SOMEBODY was going to pay for what happened and that boss was a good enough punching bag in that moment.

It's funny, I get angry when my teammates are killed in a game, especially if there's a fight right afterwards. It's only after the fight once I'm alone that sadness kicks in.

So, now that the game is out, what is everybodies' thoughts on it. I'm loving the way many iconic locations have been newly rendered. I also love the expansions to many of the classic quests and story as a whole. I'm digging the fact that Avalanche is bigger, Wedge, Biggs and especially Jesse gets more characterization as well as the addition of brand new characters.

I loved how that whole thing was expanded. And with the updated graphics, Tifa's dress... Don't get me wrong, Aerith looks spectacular, but Tifa looked outright sinful.

Seeing Cloud get his accessories during his makeover made me laugh as they were all the items you had to find to get Cloud picked in the original. As darkly funny as that scene is, I can't see how Corneo picked Cloud over the other two. Personally, I think it was an excuse for the bash brothers moment between Aerith and Tifa.

The Midgard parts of FF7, whether in the remake or the original, can come across...oddly, is how I'll phrase it, in modern times. I can't imagine a city devastated with a plate drop being well-received soon after 9/11, and Corneo's scene would be remarkably tone-deaf so recently after hashtag MeToo.

On the other hand, FF7 is primarily a game made in Japan for Japan, so cultural sensibilities and priorities...

Fiction still uses mass destruction as a thing. Midgar isn't the first or last city to have calamities like that happen. Just look at what happened to Gotham/Metropolis in Man of Steel. So long as the reprecussions, devastation and recovery are shown in a semi-plausible manner, no one is going to care. The remake handles the destruction of Sector 7 much better than the original.

As for the Corneo Arc... Anyone seriously offended by that needs to buy a clue. Corneo is toted as a sleezy crime boss who often gets his way by preying on the poor. He's like a skeezier version of Jabba the Hutt in human form. It's a grim reality that, despite the Main Stream Media's Selective Outrage over Hashtag Me Too, can and does happen. It's part of the story and it's not like Corneo didn't get some comeuppance. Not nearly as much as he deserved, but it's implied Shinra will likely take care of that loose end.

Personally, I don't see how 9/11 or Me Too could really affect people's perceptions of those parts of the story unless they are overly sensitive morons who need to get a grip.

On a much lighter note, for those of us who played the original, one thing the game had brought us are new and reimagined characters. Of all of these characters, which are your favorites?

Personally, I find that Jesse stands out above the rest. Even knowing what happens and that one of the most iconic parts of the original story was the love triangle between Cloud, Aeris/Aerith and Tifa, I couldn't help but cheer for her as she flirted with Cloud.

I did like Jessie, even though from time to time I found myself wondering if the developers were trying to make up for a lack of Yuffie Kisaragi in the early chapters.

I don't see how they could be, since the earliest Yuffie comes into the story is Costa de Sol, even in the original. While Jesse, Biggs and Wedge all seemed awed by Cloud in the original, Jesse was always a little moreso. To be honest, in hindsight, I'm surprised she wasn't awkward with her flirting in the Remake, given how awkward her character was in the original. Especially since she was somewhat clumsey in the Remake.

I never quite got how some people were so into Cloud/Yuffie. While in my very first playthrough I was very much a Cloud/Aeris shipper, I could at least understand the strong support for Cloud/Tifa (After Advent Children, I did open up to Cloud/Tifa more).

Actually, I was more wondering if the developers were saying "we need a Yuffie-type character right now" and cramming specific traits into Jessie.

Possibly, but I doubt it. Mostly for two reasons. 1st, while Jesse is more outgoing than your typical clumsy smart girl, the remake version is still well within the characterization of her original version. Personally, I see Jesse's remake personality as a nod to the way Cloud, Aeris and Tifa broke/defied their own particular stereotypes. Cloud was the delinquent who declared that he was going to become a bad ass hero and then failed to do so (until the events of the story at least). And by looking at them, you'd figure Aeris would be the girly girl to Tifa's tomboy. However that's not the case either as Tifa is the girly girl to Aeris' tomboy.

2nd, Yuffie has an energy that Jesse, and literally every other character, lacks. I just don't see the correlation.

Just finished it today. Goddamn, those last three chapters were great. Now the sadness is kicking in because we have to wait probably another 5 years for the next part.

Part 2 should be released by the time the remake gets released for Xbox. So sometime between now and next April.

Personally, I'm curious as to how they're going to handle the open world elements of the game. Also, I can't wait to see the part where Cloud describes the Fall of Nibelheim.

I am currently bashing my head against a hard mode play-through.

It's like the Costlemark menace dungeon all over again, except it lasts the whole game. T_T

I do like how it forces more creative materia setups though.

So from what I've gathered and am piecing together from interviews with Nomura, who himself had said that the "Remake" in the title refers to two different things in the game, it looks like this is an alternate timeline from the first game. Whether this involves time travel shenanigans, or is a legit alternate dimension (which I'm leaning towards due to that scene with Zack, A.K.A. another alternate dimension all together), I'm sure that we'll find out in the future games.
Nomura also said that they will be keeping the story the same but I personally think that it's just a red herring statement. While I do think that they'll keep most of the main points of the story the same, I think that we'll see an alternate resolution to the Aerith arc that ends with her living, though I personally think that they might kill off another character...such as Cloud.
Or they might bring in Zack from the other alternate time line and have him join the party later on. And because I know that someone here might be wondering why I think that Zack is from an alternate time line, if you pay attention to Spot in the scenes with Zack, you will notice that he's different from the Spot that you've seen through out the game.

Edited for grammar.

I think It's something Sephiroth had done, as he seems to be congnizant of his defeat of the original timeline and now has taken steps to undo it. That means Cloud and Co have a chance to do things better and worse than they had in the original. Already they've managed to do better. Sector 7 experienced total loss when Shinra dropped the plate on it in the original. Aerith and Wedge managed to evac a significant portion of the sector in the remake. Likewise, Wedge and Biggs both managing to survive the destruction of Sector 7 was another significant change, even if the Arbitors of Fate later killed off Wedge after he helped Cloud and Co escape Shinra Tower.

I got a copy on sale for BF ($50 CAD when normally $80), just waiting for it to arrive. Of course, it'll probably be weeks before I actually play it...
