[FFVIII] Sorcerer's Ascension

Essentially, what if either Squall or Seifer turned out to be a rarity - a MALE Sorcerer, something that's born, oh... once every several millennia or so, and the reason why Ulty was so desperate to destroy SeeD is because she knew one such Sorcerer would rise from a Garden?

Just a random idea... basically, Squall switches roles with Rinoa, while in Seifer's case, the rest of the DC are the 'Knights'.

Second idea:

What if the Sorceress wasn't Rinoa...but Fujin? :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Now thats an interesting idea. Don't suppose we could just pretend that while Rinoa was playing rebel just to piss off Daddy that she actually got killed, and thus we can all be spared her presence? Seifer, Raijin and Fujin were some of my favorite characters in 8 and I always kinda liked the brother/rival thing Seifer had going with Squall (before Rinoa got to him anyways <_< )

So would there be a new plot about rather than the fairly pointless time compression (well pointless as explained in the game. I like the theory that Ulty is actually Rinoa and she's trying, in her own twisted fashion, to stay with Squall forever by making it so time stops.)

If Squall was actually a sorcerer, then Ulty's plan makes sense. When compressed time is first mentioned, FFVIII specifically says that only a SORCERESS can survive compressed time - not necessarily just Ulty.

True, later Cid specifies that if Ulty did compress time, only she could survive, but at that point they thought there was no other sorceress around besides the (then depowered) Ulty/Edea.

If Squall was a sorcerer, Ulty's entire shenanigans would be simply a really crazy way to be alone with her chosen mate/victim/other significant half forever. An insane plan, but Ultimecia isn't exactly sane...

Then Seifer will make even _more_ of an ass of himself than he did in canon.

If he doesn't break Ultimecia's hold, and I have my doubts as to whether or not he can, then I can see Raijin getting killed as he tries to stop blondie from eviscerating his sister with the Hyperion.

I mean, Ulty'd be all 'Kill her for me, my Knight! Prove your loyalty to your dream!' and if he ends up offing either of his posse in the process, she'd count that as a win. Seifer'd pretty much break there and then if he does that, making him so much more mallable a tool for the Sorceress' use.

(no, I don't like blondie much. in fact, I think he's little more than an arrogant little shitstain with more issues than he has shelf-space).


As to idea #1 ... if Squall were a Sorcerer, would that make Quistis his Knight? *snigger*

I think I saw something like this on FF.net a few years ago. Squall was a sorceror, with Griever retconned into being his junction and Quistis later becoming his knight. I can't remember the name of the fic. All I really remember was he cut the tail off a T-rex in the first or second chapter and he later discovered that as a sorceror he could summon GFs into the world for extended periods of time, rather than just a few minutes.

It was pretty good, but not awe-inspireing. If you think you can do better, I'm eager to read it.

No argument here bout Ulty being several cards short of a deck. I just really hate Rinoa and would love a chance to be ridda her. Probably born. As mentioned, Sorcerers are exceedingly rare, and literally come once every few millennia or so.

Alternatively, have him 'inherit' said powers when the previous Sorcerer, who had been living a hermit's life or something, dies.
