First Fanfic Ever Read?

It's been too long to be sure, beyond 'it was very probably a Ranma fic.'

I'm pretty sure my first fandom was Homeworld and my first fic was Don Armageddon's Angel Squadron.

Oh wow, I think it was an Evangelion fic? I know it caused me to get interested in writing them, ultimately creating the Eva Lemon Contest 1.

Though my first lemon was some hella cheesy star war episode 1 fic a friend wrote. I'd wager it and the Eva stuff happened around the same time.

I actually remember this one, because it was so bad.

This was about 20 years ago. It was a Generation X fic with the worst Mary Sue imaginable. Words cannot describe the awfulness of this fic; it has to be seen to be believed.

I honestly don't know how I ended up reading other fanfic after that.

I started writing it before I read any. I honestly can't remember the first one I read, but it was Ranma 1/2. I was on the FFML back when it was a thing, so I got a ton of Fanfics at a time in E-mails and Ranma was the most common subject for fanfics with that group.

I'm honestly unsure about how I even found out about it because it was so long ago. I remember Hearts of Ice, Nuke Em Till They Glow, and a few other sorted older fics, but I'm sure none of them was the first.

After a while I joined the fanfic forums on Delphi, which eventually led me to this place.

I am damn sure that I wish I forgot the first fanfic that I ever read as I always wondered if someone was sneaking crack in my food during that time as I can't find a perfectly good reason for why I was reading it.

I forgot a lot of things like the title name, but I remember it was a Final Fantasy 7 fanfic that had a Tifa/Vincent main pairing with Cloud and Sephiroth (and a 'back to life' Zack. Don't ask as I think it was waived off) were blatantly gay for each other to the point that they went to a certain cursed spring from Ranma 1/2 so that they could be an official pairing or something.

...You can see why I wanted to forget it.

Pretty sure it 'evolved' into some bizarre mega crossover before I stopped reading it and eventually found the FFML through many, many geocities sites and, of course, eventually FF.net.

My first fan fiction was Darkness Returns: The Blood War which was a Phantasy Star fic I read back the late 90's I think but I didn't really get into fan fiction untill 2002 to be honest.

My first? Browncoat, Green Eyes by nonjon, read back in the days when FanFiction.net still let you highlight text. Those were the days. We shall not see their like again :blue:

I never understood what you guys were complaining about with not selecting Text.. I've always been able to, even when they say you can't... but then, I use IE.

I should note though... he states highlight text, not select text...

Oh my goodness.... first fanfic ever read...

Honestly, I think I started out reading Dragon Ball Super Zed by MiraiBulma back when anime movies used to only come up on the SciFi channel for a month-long festival and fanfics were only found on personal webpages. Or Geocities. From there, I found the Fan-Fiction Mailing List, and the rest is history.

The text that you select is highlighted is it not?

I assumed he meant highlighting as a text property within a submitted story, like yellow color background on a black foreground...Personally, I do not overly care for color highlighting, as I copy into a text editor and that type of formatting is lost...

Some sort of Ranma fiction back in uh... 1999? I do recall FF.net not being a thing when I first started... Damn, so many years reading.

My first fanfiction read is actually a yaoi fanfiction, one I had found very well done at the time and age. Just a reminder: I was 14 years old at the time, like many of the yaoi fangirls these days. Could you believe my first was also a rated M fic, too?

https://m.fanfiction.net/s/735168/1/Fubuki-no-Kaen

And there it is. I still have it in my favorites.

It's kind of ironic because I don't like yaoi like that anymore. I can tolerate T-rating now, amd it's slowly evaporating by the day. I've long since regained my "senses" and moved past those days. I keep old fics I liked back then in my faves because it's a reminder of where I've been.

I first read a Pokemon/Ranma crossover (which I didn't know was a crossover, because I didn't know what Ranma was) in like... 2002? Ash turned into a Pikachu when exposed to cold water, and I thought it was a cute concept for a story!

Fanfiction is pretty dear to me because I really got into reading through it, and I'm glad I did. It really helped me learn English, since I already had an interest in reading fiction when I moved to America, then I learned that I liked learning, and the rest is history.

My first exposure to fanfiction was also through Pokemon, on the Serebii.net forums. Then, through a troll fic by Farla, I found out about ff.net and originally disliked it because the text was so small. After tweaking the size settings and discovering other fandoms, I was hooked. Now I'm more of an AO3 person, though.

My first exposure to fanfiction was a badly done Saint Seiya/Teen Titans cross with a self insert one by a member of a game making forum I was a member of at the time.
It took me to a site where I met other fanfics. At first I only read Saint Seiya ones, mostly parodies, but one of the best ones was, believe it or not, a serious twincest yaoi one (not that I like yaoi usually, it was just that well-written).
Then the site abandoned its free but amateurish origin, and I joined its forum and even tried writing a couple of fics... then it closed.
Searching on the time's google equivalent for some of the fics there finally took me to fanfiction.net.
And to Lord Raa.
Which took me to oTFF.

My first exposure was in '99. My cousins were coming to visit, and wanted to rent Ranma 1/2 from our Blockbuster because they had seen adds for it in one of those sword magazines.

After watching half the first season, I went online to try to find out how many seasons of Ranma there were, and ended up in the old raac archive somehow. I distinctly remember reading "The Insanity Continues" first, followed up with "The More Things Change".

Edit: I had thought the archive had disappeared (when fanfic.net went down), but no here it is ftp://ftp.gweep.ca/pub/anime/anime-fan-works/Ranma/

Lots of really old stories there that I had thought long gone (outside of PCHeintz's hard drives, at least)

Shrugs... only of what I personally read and/or track...

Very early in my experiences on-line, I learned the very simple and very obvious concept and importance of not only keeping material (fan fiction, images, videos, audio) due to potential for link rot, but for the fact you can read/view/play/listen to that material locally and while off-line again and again, thus keeping bandwidth and usage down. Win-Win, for me at least. While not near as important as it used to be for bandwidth, I still prefer to do the bulk of those activities off-line.

I got into fanfiction around the same time--98 or 99 after I had burned through all of the Ranma anime I could get my hands on at the time.  (2 seasons and the movies plus a few OVAs.)  No idea which one it was but it was definitely Ranma.  I think it might have been the old Anime Turnpike that led me to fanfiction (the founder of my college anime club actually created the site), but I ultimately ended up on the FFML and delving through the RAAC for quite awhile as well.  I actually used to do mini-reviews of the RAAC stories.

Oddly, link rot was what what got me back into fanfiction a few years ago.  I've had tons of bookmarks since the 90s with my favorite stories and had saved emails as well as downloading the RAAC, but I finally got it into my head to download as much of it as I could find.  By the time I had finished that I had read a few of my old favorites like Past Present again and caught the bug.  :)  Spent several years catching up on a decade of fanfiction with a friend and then decided it was worth coming back to writing it.

I don't clearly remember the name of the first fanfiction I read, but I remember it being a Babylon 5 fanfic...and then I found "A Universe of Change" by AlbertG and I've been reading fanfics since, jumping through fandoms for those that catch my interest.

I cannot remember the very first fanfiction I ever read.   BUT, I can recall the first *large* fanfiction ever read.

That would be in the Ranma fandom, 'A Tale of Two Wallets' by the recently deceased Jim Robert Bader aka Shiva-kun
Holy crap, now that I've entered Nostalgia Mode, that was my very first fanfic. Stumbled upon it one day at home on an IBM Aptiva my parents bought me, mostly to keep me out of trouble with a married woman whom I was friends with at the time in college. It was hosted on... some guy's college website page... Matthew... Matthews... I can't remember his full name like Matthew--Matthew Anderson! Way back when if you wanted to find fanfics, you had to search out their pages, or go to rec.arts.anime.creative (AOL made finding stuff like this dead easy).

And omg am I so old...!
