Five Treasures of Rule

#1
So, quite a number of people who watched cartoons in the early nineties remember The Pirates of Dark Water, an interesting cartoon about pirates, magic, heroes, and flying monkeys. If you're interested in seeing it, whether for the first time or not, a torrent is pretty easy to find.

However, as most know, the series was canceled by the network when the production crew fell behind and costs became prohibitive. Only eight Treasures of Rule were found, Dark Water still flowed across the sea and the Pirate Lord Bloth still hunted Ren and the remaining treasures. This is a dropped series, I doubt we'll ever see an end.

So let's make one, shall we? Let's toss around some ideas, and maybe someone will get inspired.

Now the first, most obvious idea is to stay within the lines and point Ren's compass at new and exotic parts of Mer for the remaining five treasures, and just come up with something to fill those places. Maybe some background on Ioz, or the origins of the constrictus... or perhaps whatever creature they made The Maelstrom out of. It's a fairly blank slate, and the characters are Saturday-morning simple for the most part, so it would be a fairly easy write... as easy as old episodes of Star Trek, so to speak :p

Or, the idea for a crossover with any series where the sea is prominent, or even mentioned. My first thought was to have Ren's compass open a gate for them to slide through. Everyone's on high-alert because they don't know what they're sailing into.

"Hello, travelers!"

"Noi Jitat it's a talking boat!"

Yeah, Zelda: Wind Waker. Let Bloth follow them and you've got a party. Bloth may not have the sheer strength that Ganny possesses, but... the Maelstrom is a big fscking ship. Heh, I can imagine him tossing Link to the constrictus... totally forgetting to take the Master Sword away from him first. And of course, you know Bloth is going to forget all about the remaining treasures when he hears about the Triforce. All thirteen might match the Triforce(wielded properly, anyway), and eight are permanently out of his reach, so he'll probably go for it... while pretending he still wants the Treasure of Rule so he can stab Ganny in the back later.

Hm, another one. That has the potential to be extremely amusing. They come out the other side of the gate... and there's someone swimming alongside them. Two people actually. But there's no land for miles! Ren being the nice guy that he is, helps them aboard. As it turns out, he was swimming to a place called 'China' which was still many leagues away. Ioz and Niddler of course decide he's nuts while Ren and Tula ask questions and figure out how insanely fit he is. But he's not crazy enough to refuse a ride, since the compass is pointing the way he was going anyway. If the elder objects, the younger can always toss him over the side and tell them that he'll catch up later. 'sides, once they get to port, he's going to have to explain that the gold they're carrying is worth a helluva lot more around here, and it doesn't need to disappear from their pockets like it would with the old man around.

The treasure's location would be, of course, Joketsuzoku. All worth it to watch Cologne hit Ioz on the head with her staff every few seconds. You also have the option of a Jusenkyo curse for someone or an Amazon Bride (completely by accident, of course) and they'll probably be most interested in Tula's Ecomancy... *snrk* combine those three and you've got an interesting situation... to put it mildly.

I know nothing about One Piece, but that's obviously a candidate, if someone has.

We could even round-robin it, hell, they did that with the series about about the fifth or sixth episode, different writers every one. Have to be by-episode though, so we don't have anyone's plot-building ruined.

Anyway, thoughts, suggestions, other ideas?

As soon as I saw the title, I hoped it was going to be a PoDW idea. I loved this series way back when, and I'd especially love to see a One Piece xover with it.

The ranma and zelda:WW xovers aren't so interesting to me, but I'd definietly read them. Hope someone does this.

Hmmm....if this was done round-robin, would we sort of be continuing from where the series left off? I never saw it when it was on TV, but it's on my list of things to find and watch, as it looks pretty interesting.

Yeah, I figured it would be continuing from episode 21. If you can't google a torrent, I'll dig up where I got mine... though I think it was thepiratebay that I got it from, ironically enough.

I would hate to see a crossover on this, but gods would I love to see an ending. I loved that series. And they left it at them finding out that there's a master of dark water, that there's a sentient entity behind this. And that one of the jewels had evolved into an animal.

It was fucking awesome and they......

I think I found a new bunch of people to hate and add to my kill list. Scuse me while I go look up the names of the guys who cancelled this.
