Panic at the Time Loop

How did Sosuke get an upgraded Arbalest, you ask?

That's be spoiling the surprise. And as for deities, I have some ideas, but that's merely for my personal musing. Right now, more posts!

---------

Kurtz couldn't believe it! For once, he had convinced Sosuke to come with him on shore leave! All he had to do was one little favor, and he'd be introducing his new wingman to a real woman. The captain was a cutie, and Chidori had hot tsundere action, but that boy needed to get laid.

And all he had to do was hold a camera! How easy was that?

"So why again are we in your room doing this?"

"Because I'd rather keep this experiment as quiet as possible." Sosuke said, looking over the notepad he had in his hand, expression downright clinical as he looked to the sniper. "Are you ready?"

"Yeah! Let's get this over with so we can hit the town."

"Understood. Please hold the camera tight and don't scream when you leave."

"Sure...wait..wha-" That was the last thing Weber could manage before suddenly disappearing entirely. Sosuke had to admit that it was nice, the quiet of not having to hear him going on and on about whatever inane think popped into his head. With ahy luck, this research would allow him to understand what sort of space he had in that 'micro-dimensional pocket'. And what better way then a camera?

Why did he need Weber? Because someone had to hold the camera, obviously.

Sosuke calmly examined his watch, waiting for fifteen minutes to elapse before trying to draw his comrade from the unknown ether, only to find just the camera in hand. Instead of panicking, the soldier did the only logical thing he could think of. "I'll examine the tape, examine the results, and try again.

"I'm certain he's not going anywhere."

Does this mean, that in some future loop, Kurtz will pop out and then there will be two of them?

Panic at the Time Loop

Took me awhile to get back in my writing groove. And for waiting so long, I bring to thee for viewing, as well as a potential theme he'll be using later on as well.

-----

Sosuke had a scowl of intense concentration as he sat at the table, brush slowly brushing along the surface with the kind of care and precision that came from practice and experience from many pass/fail attempts. He had experimented with the colors and pigments, having spent nearly an entire previous loop in the interest of accruing information on his new medium and finding ways to add a small hint of his own style and design into the work.

This was just one piece among many, but he treated it with the kind of attention and caring as though this was his first and only.

The young soldier would admit to himself, and only himself, that this was a surprisingly cathartic exercise. Not as much as fishing, but it had a level of productivity he couldn't help but appreciate. Now this was just a project to be painted, but soon it would be part of a glorious new regime!

With his work finally completed and all the pieces assembled once more, Sosuke leaned back in his chair and examine his work, nodding in approval before turning off the lamp. Yes. This was more then sufficient. He took great care in taking the piece and setting it on the steamer trunk that contained its brethren, letting the paint dry there while he reached into the quasi-space to draw one of his pistols. All of this lallygagging and he hadn't gotten to cleaning his weapons in some time. He was about to chide himself for his carelessness as he probed the void for his Beretta...

And accidentally pulled out a very startled Kurtz Weber.

The desk didn't survive the impact, collapsing in on itself and sending the missing soldier tumbling to the ground in a squawk, Sosuke leaning in to help Kurtz to his feet. "Well, this is unexpected."

Not did he expect Kurtz to punch him in the face.

"Unexpected? UNEXPECTED?! Do you have any goddamn idea how long I've been in that place?!"

Sagara didn't even get up as he pulled out a notepad and rifled through the pages calmly. "....15 years, 2 months, 8 days, and 45 minutes."

Well that took quite abit of the irritation out of Kurtz sails, looking at himself in the mirror and realizing he didn't look a day older. "Really? I thought it was alot less, like afew weeks or something. But that's beside the point!" He wheeled back around and pointed an accusing finger at Sosuke. "Why didn't you do anything to help me?"

"Did you grab any of the buoys I sent, or the meals I placed inside?"

"...I was wondering what those big orange things were. I thought they were mines or something."

"Incorrect."

"Ah. Well...thanks for the meals at least. And I guess thanks for trying to get me out."

"I have tried on every loop, Kurtz, but you were oddly not within my reach. I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and will do whatever you ask of me to make up for it." Sosuke closed his eyes and bowed to the sniper, shocking him quite thoroughly.

"Forget it!" Kurtz grinned and grabbed Sosuke by the shoulder. "So, why do you look so young? And what's with the toy?"

Sosuke mentally sighed at the thought of having to explain time loops to his friend...yet again, but it really was the least he could do. "I will explain shortly. And that is not a toy. It is a figurine."

"Of what?"

"A space marine, obviously."

"Obviously."

As long as Bonta-kun looks basically the same, maybe dressed up as a space marine, it's fine.

Anyone know any artists that can draw Bunta-Kun as a Space Marine?

Panic at the Time Loop

Heh. It's not done yet. My normal computer is busted, and I've borrowed one from a friend of mine. This is the finish for the last one, and after that I will give the story of how Sosuke lost his virginity!

But that's then! This is now!

-@-@-@-@-

Kurtz laughter could be heard through the metallic halls of the submersible as they walked down to find Kanlin. Afterall, Sagara had agreed to shore leave if Kurtz helped with his examination, and he was a man of his word. Especially when, for once, Weber's endless droning seemed to prove of actual use.

"Really? I suppose that it does make sense." The teen noted, pencil practically burning through that notepad of his as he wrote all of the useful information he could get. "So the space in itself is infinite, but is limited to the ability to keep items within a set of spatial coordinates that you can recall them?"

The sniper was silent for several long moments, genuinely stunned at how the boy had changed. he wouldn't call him chatty, but when it came to this stuff he was downright...animated. "I guess so. I kinda got jarred away when I appeared there, and I guess I just...drifted outta range. It took me awhile to get back to that little cache of crap you've got." He couldn't help but smile alittle as the boy nodded and hung off his every word, like this would help him unravel some great mystery.

Speaking of mysteries, a question of his own popped into that blonde head of his. "So why aren't we gonna see the Captain about this time off? It is her ship, afterall."

The Captain has become rather...difficult to read over the past several loops." Sosuke tried to put it as politely as he could, which was no small feat. "It has not affected her leadership capacities, but there are moments when we find her in the hanger and working on some sort of curious device or another. I think the Yggrassil issues are beginning to affect the Whispered in an adverse manner, as I have seen some curious computations from Chidori as well."

"And before we get to shore, you're gonna explain all this crap about 'loops' and Yagdra..gristle...whatever the hell you're talking about!"

"Yggrassil."

"That too!"

"Very well. We will have some time before we go for shore leave."

"You're going on shore leave?" A familiar voice echoed out from the galley door, Kurtz Weber popping his head out with a wide grin. "I don't believe my ears! What made you....you..." All enthusiasm died away when he saw who Sosuke was talking too, the two blonds just gaping at eachother before looking to Sosuke for an explanation.

"...Ah yes. I forgot the you from the current time loop is here as well."

The whole ship rumbled with how hard they facefaulted, silent for several moments before they focused their ire on him. "How can you just forget something like that?!" They roared in dual indignation, their faces side by side as the got right in Sosuke's face too. The teen merely stared calmly at them, pondering how to deal with this situation when an idea struck him.

"Kurtz, the other you has a mole on his cheek."

That stopped their fury dead, unsure who Sosuke was referring to specifically before turning to look at one another. "Hmm..I don't see any mole." "Me either. Just a handsome bastard looking back at me." "Damn, you're right. I forget how gorgeous I look."

With the pair properly distracted, it was time to throw in the real bait. "Before the three of us go on shore leave, perhaps Mao would like to see this new development as well." From the way their smug smirks warped into lecherous leers, Sosuke knew he had time to probably put together another model before they bothered him again. He simply stepped back and let them bowl eachother over as they scrambled back into the galley to see if Mao wanted to be part of a sniper sandwich.

What he didn't expect was the gunshot to ring out, blinking at the eerie silence before slowly poking his head into the door. What he saw was one Weber on the floor with a bullet between his eyes, and the other slowly scrambling back from Mao, who had the most deranged look he'd ever seen on her.

"There can be..only one! GOT IT!" She roared, everyone in earshot nodding before she pointed the gun at the sweating Sagara. "And YOU! I don't know how, but you're involved somehow. You do this again, and I'll blow off your balls before I kill you! Got it?"

Sosuke nodded vigorously and began to slink back into his room.

------

(Next Loop)

Sosuke hated it when things started over again, closing his eyes and briefly sighing. It wasn't the loss of progress with certain issues or the realization that life as he knew it wouldn't continue in any semblance of a normal fashion.

It was the fact that he always, ALWAYS, walked into the door to the briefing room when Kurtz suddenly opens it to see where the his Urzu 7 was. He mentally braced himself for the impact, only to find it didn't come. He opened an eye, glancing around to make sure he was still where he was, then leaned in slightly as he reached for the door in fascination.

Before he could react, the door suddenly swung open, his head lowered just enough to hit his forehead like a hammer and send him off his feet, stumbling into the opposite wall as his skull throbbed angrily.

A throbbing which grew even more as Weber started screaming. "Sosuke! There you are! I remember now! All of it! Mao shot me...and you're not a v-mph!" He was cut short when Sosuke got up and tackled him in a blur of motion, hand over his mouth and keeping the sniper from saying the one phrase he's dreaded ever being heard aloud again.

"If you ever tell anyone on the ship about that, I will put you back into subspace storage. Do you understand?" Sagara growled, waiting for Kurtz to nod before taking his hand off, not even looking up as Mao spoke from behind him.

"Tell anyone about what, Sosuke-kun?"

"That I'm not a virgin, Mao-san." He almost rolled his eyes at having to explain of this most dangerous piece of information, then stopped as his brain caught up to his mouth and slowly turned to look at Mao. She had the most nefarious smirk on her face as she stood in the door, hands clasping Captain Testarossa by the shoulders like she was keeping her in place to hear this bit of information. Sosuke paled visibly, able to see not only was Mao awake as well, his current loop was about to be made a living hell.

Again.

Mao is about to find out she is no longer the pro.

Panic at the Time Loop

Not for the first time in his looping life, Sosuke couldn't help but be impressed by the power of teamwork.

The young soldier had almost made it to the hanger, fully intending to hijack the Arbalest and make his getaway, when the maintenance crew had barred his way like a human phalanx. He couldn't well shoot them, or any member of the crew, and simply tried to go around through one of the lower levels. This apparently was where the real trap was sprung, ambushed from either side of the stairwell and stopped before he could even throw himself off the railing.

Sosuke had been bodily dragged back to the briefing room, handcuffed and duct taped, plopped into a chair, and was now trying to avoid the two primary questions that would spell his doom.

1) Who?

2) How?

He knew Kutrz was somehow responsible for the latter, but was too focused to make any warnings about opening this Pandora's Box. He managed to avoid this issue last time by giving them outright lies that took them well away from where the real deed had been done, but this meant that Mao and Weber were wise to his game. He couldn't use it again, and the way that the Captain had kept eerily quiet throughout the interrogation had made him restless.

"C'mon Sosuke. All you gotta do is tell me. It won't go beyond this room." Kurtz tried his most convincing and earnest smile, which was ruined by the fact he was holding a microphone for the boy to speak into. It seemed the entire crew wished to learn about this absurdity, managing to even catch whispered wagers about the position and person. Many said tsundere. Some thought one of the merc crew he once traveled with.

"...Sagara, Sosuke. 721812910." He repeated once again, eyes staring forward like some sort of one-line mannequin.

Now it was Mao's turn, swaggering around to the other side of him and leaning an elbow on the chair, 'unintentionally' letting her breasts hover close to the boy's head. The two had been alternating attacks, both trying to place good cop. He knew who they intended to use for the bad. "Come on, Sosuke. It couldn't have been that bad. Besides, if you just tell us, this can all go away." She smiled, which was quickly snatched from her lips when Sosuke's eyes snapped over to her.

The stare was like steel, utterly unbending and cold. "You would be surprised." He warned, then resumed staring forward. He could lie. Say it wasn't consensual, which would shut them up for all eternity. But the truth wasn't nearly as clear cut, as it hadn't been....at first. And if they found out later, he'd never hear the end of it. Ah! He almost forgot.

"Sagara, Sosuke. 721812910."

Without missing a beat, Kurtz was at his side once again. "Look, do you want the Captain to come over here?" All three of them looked to the silver-haired lass who'd been standing in the corner of the room, flanked on either side by her senior subordinates. Her expression was in a state of nigh constant flux, while the men had expressions seeming carved from stone. Kanlin had tried to save the boy, but the will of the mob would not be denied. "Cause we both know when she comes over here, it ain't gonna be pretty. I gotta say, even I don't know what she's gonna do. So why not just tell us, and get it all over with."

The longer Sosuke stared at the captain, the more that unease grew. It was a mix of concern, anger, and several others he couldn't entirely comprehend on his own. But he knew that honestly, he was sick and tired of being treated like a POW. ".....very well. But on two conditions." He didn't look at either of them as he spoke. "One, I am freed and allowed use of the dry erase board and the markers. Two, in the event that no one has wagered correctly, I will take all of the winnings, or will take half if someone managed to do guess right. Are these terms acceptable?"

From the way they nodded as they cut the tape from his legs and unlocked the cuffs, he took that as a yes. "I will give you this one last warning; You can't handle the truth." As more people poured in to nearly overflowing, he shook his head and walked over to the board. If that was how they wanted it, fine by him.

-----

"And that is a 'Roanapur Special'."

Sagara turned to survey the damage, allowing himself a hint of a smirk as he stared at the crew. Some were pale. Others were green. A small fraction, like Weber, had disappeared to empty their stomachs. Mao was slumped in her chair, her stare a mix of awe, shock, and something he couldn't quite identify. She crossed her legs and took several moments to collect herself before finally speaking. A fact Sosuke found most admirable, considering few could even look him in the eyes.

"But..what happens if there's a survivor?"

"Well, obviously, a male will simply continue intercourse with the corpse until they've ejaculated." He explained, keeping his tone calm and clinical as several more men disappeared for the lavatory. "And the female, from what I've been told, usually takes the corpses' fingers and.."

"Okay okay! I get it!" Mao cut him off, shaking her head vigorously to try and get the images our of her mind.

"Very well, though there are instances where both parties actually survive, as Levy-san and I did. And when a person loses their virginity in such a manner, it is technically called a 'Roanapur Cherry Party'." He looked away to the red dry erase marker he had in his hand, absently running it along the board. Damn. Seems he went through the entire marker.

Maybe he shouldn't had drawn all the blood.

He briefly shrugged and turned back around, hoping to see the Captain's reaction to this little event. But she was nowhere to be seen, and this fact took a very nasty bite out of his initial smugness. But before he could ask, the ship suddenly lurched to the left, metal groaning in protest as people were bodily thrown to the floor. To Sosuke's growing horror, a off-sounding cackle ripped through the intercom, which unfortunately deepened into a kind of war cry that made his blood run cold.

"THAT HUSSY'S DEAD!! I don't care what she can do with both hands! For taking my Sosuke's virginity, there can be only death!"

The young soldier was silent several long moments, just staring at the intercom while others had lost control of their motor functions and/or bowels. At the devolvement into madness, all he could do is sigh and shake his head.

"Can't handle the truth indeed."
