I've seen this idea pop up a couple of times on the forums, and here's my first shot at it. I'm not too happy with the very last paragraph, so any suggestions are welcome. And yes, Sousuke IS Shinji, at least for this fic.
“Mao, you wanted to see us?†Asks Kaname from the door of the small office.
“Yes I do, so come in and sit down, both of you.†Replied the office's occupant.
In response the two 16 year old girls entered the room and took the seats facing the desk.
“Now after the events in Hong Kong I need to discuss the relationship between the two of you and Sargent Sousuke.†Said Mao in response to the unasked question of why they where there.
“I don't see the relationship between Kaname-san, Sousuke-kun and myself is any of your business, Sargent-Major.†Tessa stated by way of reply.
“It becomes my business when that relationship effects Sousuke's ability to do his job.†Retaliated Mao “And I don't think the two of you realize the full extent of the stakes in this matter, if things keep going the war they are not only will one of you lose Sousuke but the pair of you will lose your friendship and I don't think you want that, do you?â€
“That's all very good for you to say, Melissa, but what are we supposed to do about it?†Demanded Tessa.
“Far be it for to to suggest that two of the smartest women on the planet, who share a physic link, can not figure out a way to share one man.†Supplied Mao.
“Even so, working things and coming to an arrangement will take time, and Kaname has to return to school soon.†Said Tessa.
“No I don't, or rather no I won't be, after this incident I've realized that I can't go back and put both myself and everyone around me at risk.†Responded Kaname.
“Good, have you told anyone about this decision yet?†Asked Mao.
“No, you two are the first. It's something that I knew I had to do but I didn't who to talk about it with.†Answered Kaname.
“Tessa is probably the right answer, and probably who you should room with given what we've agreed upon.†Responded Mao.
“Hold on a minute, Sargent-major, while I am quite happy to have Kaname-chan room with me until a more permanent arrangement can be reached, we haven't agreed to anything.†Countered Tessa.
“You do realize that you're behind in the race for Sousuke's affection, and that if you don't agree chances are that you'll lose both Souske and your friendship with Kaname? As your nee-san I really can't advise this course of action.†Stated Mao.
“Fine, I'll go along with this.†Tessa agreed sullenly.
“What's there to be upset about, Tessa?†Inquired Mao.
“You sort of rammed this down you throat, Mao.†Answered Tessa.
Mao turned to Kaname. “I'm not going burn my bridges like this. Plus having someone else around to keep Souske under control sounds like a good idea to me.†Added Kaname.
“Then it's decided.†Replied Mao, clapping her hands together. “There's just one other thing, Tessa needs to work on her motor skills and both of you really need to work on your ability to defend yourselves so I'll be arranging some classes along those lines.â€
“I know I'm clumsy, Mao, but that's no reason to rub it in like this.†Retaliated Tessa.
“Even if these classes mean the two of you getting hot and sweaty with Sousuke?†Inquired Mao as a counter-point, the girls blushes answering for them.
Sousuke and Kaname where clearing out Kaname's apartment when Sousuke's cell phone rang.
“This is Souske.†Answered Sousuke.
“This is the captain. Sargent Sousuke, two days ago Wriath intercepted a letter for you at the site of the former safe house. The letter was from one Gendo Ikari, who purported to be your father and requested that you travel to Tokyo-3 in order to work for Nerv in the capacity as a pilot. As Intelligence has had no prior success in attempting to infiltrate Nerv you are to travel to Nerv in order to accept this position. You will need to secure quarters for yourself plus at least one other, further instructions and details will be provided en route, now please hand the phone to Chidori-san.†Said the captain voice on the line.
Souske handed the phone to Kaname, telling her: “It's Tessa, I've got a new mission from the sounds of things.â€
“Chidori-san, Sargent Sousuke is being assigned to an infiltration mission in Tokyo-3, MITHERAL is formally offering you a salary in order to accompany him, posing as his girlfriend, training will also be provided.†Once again Tessa's voice came from the phone.
“I sort of realized that I'd have to work for MITHERAL once I made my decision to go into hiding, but I would have thought that I would be working in research, not infiltration. And how will this affect us?†Asked Kaname
“You where selected for this mission because because it would be a lot easier to have you playing the role of Sargent Sousuke's girlfriend to accompany him then anyone else. As for us, I am trying to make arrangements to accompany both of you.†Came the reply
