This might seem strange to many, but I just discovered that our "What's New" section shows pretty much exactly how you see things on SB/SV. Well .. near-exact for me anyways. I'm wondering if we had already had what we were looking for ... or am I just naive?

The front page could probably do with a tidy up, but if it does the job it may be best just to leave it all alone.

Possibly have it as the default landing page.

Hence why I earlier stated something like 'Anime Preview' or 'Anime Ideas' could be used. You just have a set of tags for certain subforums.
Ah, sorry, I misunderstood.

I think Xenforo filters (the descriptor infront of a thread title) are different from their tags, so while it might not be possible to limit tags results to a specific subforum, it looks like it is possible to do that with the filters.

For example, filtering by "Discussion" in the Fanfiction Discussion subforum brings up a different list of threads than filtering by "Discussion" in the News & Politics forum.

That's the kind of thing I was imagining for replacing the Ideas/Previews/Talk subforums. I know that in the Suggestion Box forum on SV you're required to add one of these filters/prefaces, and I know that SV runs on Xenforo, so this has to be doable. It might be some add-on that they developed themselves, however, so I'm not sure how difficult it would be to get your hands on it/implement it.

I think @daniel_gudman is right to be concerned about new thread creation becoming intimidating, but if it's just that they have to select one of three preset categories for their thread, I think new posters wouldn't find that too offputting.

Sounds like that does pretty much what I was thinking.

But that assumes that categories are still separate... a general mashup is still going to muck up searching.

Filtering by 'Discussion' for example, as I understand it. would then come up with *ALL* Discussions... giving say Naruto, Ranma, Dresden Files, Star Wars, Harry Potter, My Little Pony, and many many more. And that is assuming the threads flagged correctly.

That's not how it works on SV and SB. I was hoping we could find out how they do it and apply that, since it appears it's not a native Xenforo feature. And if a thread is flagged incorrectly, I assume a mod would just change the label, just like currently if someone posts in the wrong subforum it would have to be moved.

I've spent a good chuck of time searching for Tag related Xenforo v2 add-ons, but haven't found anything. If you find something that I missed, we can consider installing it. (heck, if it isn't too expensive we can even purchase it!)
XenForo also has "prefixes" distinct from tags, I have a paid add-on called Multi Prefix which lets you use multiple prefixes for a thread.

I plan on porting Aggregating forums (used on SV & SB) to XF2 sometime by the end of the year, which is used to fold multiple subforums into the parent forum.
