As I was standing outside my apartment puffing away on one of my cancersticks, watching the stars and allowing my mind to wander after reading the NGE PWP-thread, I came up with an idea for a future project. I don't think I'll start writing it yet, as I have enough on my table as is at the moment, but it's never too early to start writing story'n chapter outlines so I'll have something to work with later on.
Anyways, as I was pondering possible pwp-pairings for the nge cast, my mind turned to some of the immortal players of the World of Darkness, but didn't stay on that subject very long before I started considering doing a full NGE/WoD crossover.
Tears of Blood is mainly Vampire and KotE and will have little else from the WoD, other then a few mentions and only has one character that isn't either ordinary human, ghoul, vampire or kuei-jin, but something else from the WoD.
With that covered, I wanted something else from the WoD and started directing my attention to Mage in general and Sorcerer in particular.
Only children born after 2nd impact are able to pilot and some better then others, all of them have some sort of connection to the souls imprisoned in the EVA's. Shinji and Asuka to their mothers, Rei to Doc Akagi senior. Touji to who knows who? Probably his mother, I'm guessing. And the Fifth, well, as an angel he's probably connected to every single soul out there, leaving him compatible with all the EVA's.
So I started thinking, what if it isn't just the existing connection to the souls that allows the Children to pilot, but something else? Like, being Sorcerors?
CholÚ would explain Berserker states, when the Children are possessed by the soul/spirit of the EVA, spirits having gone quite mental after being bound to a weapon of destruction like the EVA.
Mana Manipulation is the way the EVA's are controlled by the Children, allowing them to manipulate the energies of the Adam/Lilith clones to get the EVA to move, punch, jump, fire a gun or whatever.
While the NGE-verse is already plenty dark, I figure that my WoD:ish take of it will make it even darker.
Ideas for now...
SEELE is even more deeply involved in NERV then in the 'real' NGE and they're not the only ones, leaving Gendo with less control then we're used to seeing him with. Instead of being able to run business as he sees fit to follow his own scenario while keeping it a secret from SEELE and making it appear as if he's following their orders, he'll have to play SEELE out against other influences.
The Marduk Institute isn't just a fancy coverup this time, it's an actual institution devoted to finding those with psychic talents and training them to see if they're capable of connecting with the EVA's ( and if they're not, find some other use for whatever talents they do have ).
Gendo has managed to make Rei this time around as well, but there's no Reiquarium, so this one is all there is. He has also been unable to keep her under his wing, so this Rei has been brought up at the Marduk Institute, as has Shinji and Asuka. ( Think of a far darker Psychic Academy, with less flashy powers and a more militaristic bent... )
As I've already mentioned, the Children are Mana Manipulators first and foremost, but I thought I'd give them one more little trick each.
Shinji has Synergy, the ability to enable several Psychics to work in concert, making the group stronger then the individual.
Asuka has Psychokinesis, the ability to move objects around with her mind.
Rei has Astral Projection, the ability to leave her body behind and send her astral body off to distant places.
Gendo of course has Psychic Vampirism, the ability to feed off the emotions, willpower and life energy of those around him to improve himself. ( Think weak Dementor, able to feed from more things then just negative emotions. )
