X5 was considered a step back from X4 in quality and gameplay. Also there was a TON of annoying shit in the game, from the constant backtracking to Alia being the original "MEGAMAN, MEGAMAN! IF YOU SHOOT THINGS THEY EXPLOODE." during stages. (Seriously, she's worse than fucking Navi. Imagine if Navi was voiced, annoying sounding, and just started bitching at you on her own.)

X6 suffers from jumping the shark hard as fuck. X5 was meant to be the end of the X series, and the X6 definitely shows that it got phoned in for dat cash.

Sega announces the Genesis Mini
System to release later this year in Japan; no word on other countries, what games included.

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate.

As in, that already exists. Sega just caught up to the Latin American releases.

It's by the same company they have farmed it out to several times now. It's...not known for being as high quality as the nes/snes classic mini.

I haven't bought a non digital vita game is ages, but given they gave up on the console years ago i'm surprised it took this long for them to do.

Vita, man it could have been so good if Sony had made some critical missteps and actually gave a damn and let their A list developers have a crack at it.

I'm wondering now - are they still manufacturing Vitas?

Yes they are. It's actually doing surprisingly well still.

What it doesn't sell is physical games, but digital software has a very high attach rate for the system. It's still a viable release platform for a lot of smaller developers.

Plus it has other functionality, such as streaming and remote play that make it attractive as hardware for consumers. It even has DVR capabilities in some regions.

Minecraft was released for the system a couple of years ago and sold a million units. It has also occasionally sold out of hardware units at retailers in recent years.

It's a niche product, but does well enough to keep itself alive, even though it has long since lost the interest of major publishers.

I have to say, battlefield 5 placing realism or historical accuracy tot he side in favor of fun is fantastic. Who honestly cares what race or gender video game solders are?

It depends on how they're marketing it.

If they're claiming that it is realism, that's one thing. I haven't seen any indication that they are, but they haven't really clarified it either.

If they're throwing that out and outright going full steampunk fantasy, that's another. It seems they might be mildly moving in that direction given the prosthetic arm we see in the trailer and how functional it is.

They seem to be leaning towards the latter, but haven't clarified that and it's a bit murky regarding exactly what they are doing.

I kind of get where some of the complaining is coming from, even though I do think it's a bit silly. I mean, the trailer isn't even trying to make it seem like real World War II. At one point the first person character brings down a plane by shooting a grenade in mid air.

It almost looks like they're doing a Nazi Invasion of the British Isles, which suggests a Wolfenstein style alternate reality, which I'm all for.

This seems like it might be more Bad Company as far as sensibilities than previous recent entries.

I think they need to do something like that, because just doing WWII seriously again isn't going to work because of just how much that's been done. They don't have to go full Resistance Fall of Man on us, but can't really play it completely straight and expect to keep people's interest.

Too bad I probably won't ever play it because it's EA.

The vibe i'm getting is they are embracing the 'game' nature of it, and just saying 'screw 100% realism, no one wants to play that yet again'.

Which is fantastic, though i'll probably not buy it (i've not purchased a BF game since bad company 2.)
