Klonoa 1 + 2 is also on my (long) to-play list, so that'll be nice to be able to legally purchase them.

Wii U + 3DS eshops to stop allowing purchases in March 2023

But! You have to read the fine print, because that's just for making purchases, downloading free demos, and redeeming codes. Loading balances is discontinued even sooner than that.

  • As of May 23, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a credit card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
  • As of August 29, 2022, it will no longer be possible to use a Nintendo eShop Card to add funds to an account in Nintendo eShop on Wii U or the Nintendo 3DS family of systems. However, it will still be possible to redeem download codes until late March 2023.
Users who link their Nintendo Network ID wallet (used with Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems) with their Nintendo Account wallet (used with the Nintendo Switch family of systems) can use the shared balance to purchase content on any of these systems until late March 2023. After that, the balance can only be used to purchase content for the Nintendo Switch family of systems.

...

Even after late March 2023, and for the foreseeable future, it will still be possible to redownload games and DLC, receive software updates and enjoy online play on Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS family of systems.
What's annoying is as far as I'm aware, the eShop for those two systems shares the same architecture as the Switch eShop. So I'm not sure what the point of shutting down most of its major functions is.

Crunchyroll now available on Nintendo Switch

If I'm gonna be honest though, I would have thought it'd already be available. I need to get it hooked up anyways either to my smart TV directly, or my PS4 or Switch. For some reason, the web app loves to crash my browser every so often.

Capcom also announced Street Fighter 6 is in the works. One hopes it releases in better shape that SFV.

Frankly, everything being digital is such a stupid decision. It just means when servers go down, you can't play the games you paid full price for. At least if you have a disc you can always play the game.

This is why I got out of gaming long ago. The fact they are requiring network connections to play games, and less and less physical releases.

Even with physical releases, depending on game some or all functionality is clocked out once the servers are down.

I want no part of that, even if I may have liked the games themselves.

I was perfectly fine paying out for a game with a physical media, but much less so for no physical media, in some cases monthly fees to keep playing, and one that can die at any time at the whim of the game company. That is why a game cartidge or disc from 20-30-40 years ago still works perfectly fine but a game more than a few years old may be little more than a paperweight.

That's actually really good news. I despise extra game launchers.

I didn't even realize they had an independent launcher.

Neither did I. Last Bethesda game I bought was Skyrim from STEAM - the original one, not the more recent re-release. Been years since I played it. Still, am happy that 3rd party launchers are decreasing.

Speaking of which, on the opposite note, Larian Studios (folks behind Baldurs Gate 3, Divinity Original Sin 2 .. etc) released their own launcher a few months ago.

Sooo ... one step forward, one step back?

Still waiting for someone to do a Luna vs. Stadia write-up.

Amazon Luna launches for anyone in the US, adds free games for Prime members and Twitch integration
Luna was announced in fall 2020, but since then, it has only been available to a limited number of customers through an invite-only “early access” program. Today’s launch, however, finally opens up the service for anyone to use in the United States, which could significantly expand the number of Luna customers.

Alongside the broader launch, Amazon also announced three additional “channels” (Luna’s term for bundles of games that customers can subscribe to on a monthly basis, similar to Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass) that customers will be able to enjoy.

The most notable of the new additions is the Prime Gaming Channel, which will offer Amazon Prime members a selection of free games to play on Luna that rotate each month. To start things off in March, Prime members will get access to Devil May Cry 5, Observer, System Redux, PHOGS!, and Flashback. Additionally, Immortals Fenyx Rising will also be available to play for free but only from March 8th through March 14th (instead of the entire month, as is the case for the other titles listed).

Also launching on Luna is the “Retro Channel,” which will include classic games like Street Fighter II—Hyper Fighting, Metal Slug 3, and Castlevania Anniversary Collection, and the “Jackbox Games Channel,” which includes all eight Jackbox Party Pack titles. Amazon is also using the Jackbox Games Channel to debut a new “Luna Couch” feature that lets other friends join you in playing even if they don’t subscribe to Luna themselves. Both the Retro Channel and Jackbox Games Channel will cost $4.99 per month.

Lastly, Amazon is using the official Luna launch to debut a few new features for the platform. The company is leveraging its ownership of Twitch to add native support for one-click broadcasting — simply press a button on Luna, and you’ll instantly be able to stream your game live, complete with a camera feed overlay. There’s even a QR code system for users playing on Fire TV to link their phone to use as a webcam.

We might be getting a CHAOS;Head and CHAOS;Child double-pack Switch release in NA. It's part of the overall 'Science Adventure' VN series which includes the STEINS;GATE and ROBOTIC;NOTES games (they're not all direct sequels and prequels, but do share a combined universe). CHAOS;Child has already had an official English release. CHAOS;Head has not, but I believe has had a fan translation.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero gets a September 22 release in English on Switch, PS4, PC. Youtube reveal

Per Capcom, Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 will be getting PS5 and Series X/S releases this year, with visual upgrades. Free digital upgrades for those who own a One/PS4 copy.

Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp delayed due to ongoing invasion of Ukraine (in the first game, a Russia expy invades its neighboring nation right at the very beginning).

What's kind of unusual (and I find hilarious) is that this is the second time this series has had uncanny timing. The first Advance Wars release came out the day before 9/11 in North America, and was delayed as a result in Europe and Japan.

Trailer for Hogwarts Legacy. Honestly, it looks pretty good, as long as they don't pull any fast ones on us with the content revealed in here. Basically the open-world Hogwarts game we've wanted for 20 years.

CD Projekt Red announces a new Witcher game is in development
The biggest news, however, is that the upcoming Witcher game will see CD Projekt Red switch over from its existing in-house REDengine engine — which the company has used for over a decade — to Unreal Engine 5, as part of a “multi-year strategic partnership” between CDPR and Epic Games.

Despite that partnership, the next Witcher game won’t be exclusive to the Epic Games Stores, and CDPR will continue to use REDengine for some current projects, like the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, too.

Beyond that, however, CDPR is making a point to note that “no further details — such as a development time frame or release date” are being provided at this time about the new title.

And the memes about a delayed game eventually being good are sprouting everywhere. Nowhere close to the first time a Zelda game has been delayed. I'm old enough to remember Twilight Princess being delayed the better part of a year, and I think even Majora's Mask had a short delay, too?

In other news...from the people who brought you catboy butlers, now we're getting doggirls maid cafe lmao. And yes, now it's called Inupara, not Nekopara. Also tagged 'Not a joke' in the pinned comment, since it was released on April 1.
