'Releasing sometimes in the early 2030s, with a dozen spinoffs instead in that timeframe including a couple of Japan-only or smartphone-only games' no doubt, given the release schedule between 2 and 3

Sega's Streets of Rage is getting a movie, from the creator of the John Wick franchise.

.....wha?

"Only trust your fists, the police will never help you."

THAT Streets of Rage?

....ok then.

Not just Streets of Rage--Derek Kolstad is also working on movie adaptations of Splinter Cell, Just Cause, and Hitman (what, another one?!). The production company is dj2 Entertainment, best known for the Sonic movies, who themselves are busy with adaptations of Disco Elysium, Life is Strange, and Tomb Raider (what, another one?!).

Anyway.
Sega is reportedly working on big-budget reboots of Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio
Earlier this month, [Sega exec Shuji] Utsumi said that several Super Game projects were currently underway, and Bloomberg is now saying these include Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio. The new Crazy Taxi game has been in development for a year, says Bloomberg, with a targeted release of 2024 to 2025. No such timeframe for Jet Set Radio is mentioned, and the publication stresses that “both new games are in the early stages of creation and could still be canceled.”

Hitman (what, another one?!).
Honestly, I think Hitman would work better as a TV-Show, rather than a movie. Different hits each episode, and slowly build up to an intense climax.

It's just too slow-paced to really work in a film the way Holywood wants it to. It's not an action series.

Since I'm posting about dj2 Entertainment and game adaptations...
‘It Takes Two’ Movie Lands at Amazon, Seven Bucks Productions Joins dj2 Entertainment as Producers
... As previously reported, dj2 Entertainment will produce the film, with Seven Bucks Productions now boarding the project along with Amazon Studios. Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia, and Hiram Garcia will produce on behalf of Seven Bucks. According to sources, Dwayne could also star in the film, but nothing is official as of now.

The film adaptation will follow May and Cody who, as they go through a divorce, find their minds transported into two dolls that their daughter, Rose, made to represent them. Now they must go on a wild and fantastical journey to find a way to get back into their bodies.

“Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller are adapting the game for the screen and will serve as executive producers. Dmitri M. Johnson and Dan Jevons produce for dj2, while Stephan Bugaj of dj2 executive produces. Josef Fares and Oskar Wolontis of Hazelight Studios, which developed the original game, will also executive produce. Kimberly Bialek will oversee production on behalf of Seven Bucks Productions. dj2 has a first-look deal with Amazon, as do Casey and Miller.

... Along with their first-look deal with Amazon, dj2 has a second-look deal at Legendary Television.

Splatoon 3 releases September 9

Ubisoft’s troubled Prince of Persia remake moved to a new studio, delayed further
After an indefinite delay and months without an update, Ubisoft has announced that it’s moving the development of its highly anticipated Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake to its studio located in Montréal, Canada. Ubisoft also confirmed to The Verge that it’s no longer targeting a release in the 2023 fiscal year, which runs until March 31st, 2023 in Canada. The game has been in the works at Ubisoft’s India-based Mumbai and Pune studios since 2020.

... Ubisoft didn’t expand on what prompted it to swap studios.

The Sands of Time remake is notably supposed to be a remastering of the game — not just a reskin — built off of Ubisoft’s AnvilNext engine. It was initially slated for release in January 2021 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. There’s still no word on optimization for the Series X / S or PS5.

From The Verge...
Gotham Knights was first revealed in 2020 with plans to launch the following year, but after some delays, it's now slated to debut on October 25th. However, while it was originally due to launch on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and PC, the developer says Gotham Knights will no longer release on previous-gen consoles. "To provide players with the best possible gameplay experience, the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles," Warner Bros. said in a statement.

Konami’s Silent Hill plans could include a remake, full sequel and episodic stories
Multiple Silent Hill projects are currently in development at studios around the world, sources have told VGC, and could include a remake, full sequel and story-focused episodic series.

... As first mentioned by influencer NateTheHate and journalist Jeff Grubb, one of the in-development titles could be a remake of fan-favourite 2001 installment Silent Hill 2.

This matches with what VGC has heard from our own sources. It’s claimed that the remake will feature reworked AI, animations, puzzles and several new endings, and potentially release as a timed exclusive on PlayStation consoles.

Bloober Team did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

But as VGC and insiders have reported previously, we understand Konami has been actively talking to several developers about reviving the Silent Hill IP, across multiple games.

One of those projects is intended to be a smaller, episodic series of “short stories”, we were told. Sources have previously indicated that Until Dawn studio Supermassive had once been involved in talks for such a project, which eventually evolved into its Dark Pictures games.

... VGC has been told that Konami is planning to release a new mainline entry in the Silent Hill series. It’s not clear who is leading the game, but VGC reported last year that a Japanese studio was working on a Silent Hill project.

PlayStation keeps pushing into TV and film with a Horizon Zero Dawn Netflix series
Sony is continuing to go all in on turning its flagship video games into TV shows and movies — according to Variety, the company announced that it’s making a show based on Horizon Zero Dawn with Netflix at an event for investors. Sony is also working on a movie based on the Gran Turismo series, according to Deadline, but hasn’t found a distributor for it yet, and could feature Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Chappie) as its director.

...

PlayStation Productions currently has several other projects in the works (10 in total, according to Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra). It’s reportedly working on:
  • a Twisted Metal series on Peacock
  • a God of War show for Amazon Prime
  • an adaptation of The Last of Us for HBO
  • a Ghost of Tsushima movie
  • a Metal Gear Solid movie
Oscar Isaac will be playing Solid Snake, Pedro Pascal will act as Joel, Bella Ramsey will play Ellie, and Ghost of Tsushima is being directed by one of the people behind the John Wick movies. And, of course, the recently released Uncharted movie starred Hollywood’s golden boy, Tom Holland.
