Not much to say. The two were going to be major characters in the Shin Megami Tensei XBOX MMO SMT: Nine.á Game was only ever released in Japan, never got the online component, and I think was never completed.

Also, the protagonist in SMT 1 was a reincarnation of Adam, and the female lead was Eve.á Lilith also showed up as a fairly major character.
So nothing to really support ideas, but nothing to really contradict them either?

That's cool, I suppose.
I was about to say that you were wrong, and the two characters in question were Izanagi and Izanami, but then I remembered that that was true in the book, not the game.

Still, it amazes me that they haven't done anything more with Adam and Eve: that seems to be a myth that SMT would be all over, what with them constantly playing with YHVH and Lucy.
I know! That's kind of why I got this idea. I mean, in just Persona three, there were, like, a dozen guys I had to look up, and I'm a Mythology buff. But no one used the story that caused, uh, pretty much everything in the Bible?

Hell, after the Creation itself, it's probably the most important story in the book, and one of the most famous.

And there isn't even an entry for Adam and Eve on the SMT wiki.

Son, I am disappointed.

In my opinion, Adam would have been cooler then an Orpheus recolor (even if it was a very cool recolor).

Of course, if Minato was Adam, it brings to question who's Lilith, Eve, and that one wife created between them (did that girl ever get a name?).
Actually, I got the impression that Minato was Jesus, not Adam: Minato's ultimate persona is Messiah, after all, not Orpheus Telos.

And I just realized this: anybody see the interesting parallel between Minato's and Seta's first Persona? Both were men who tried to bring their loved one out of the Underworld, only to fail when they looked back. Of course, I'm probably the last person to realize that, but...
Actually, from what I understand, both Messiah and Orpheus Telos are his Ultimate Persona.

Though, since Messiah was the one to show up in the ending credits with all the other Ultimate Persona, he's got a little more support.

A story about Messiah!Minato would be cool, too, so I'll give it some thought.

And yeah, I noticed that.

I also noticed the progression of Minato's persona. He lost to Death, then he was Death, and then he defeated Death.

Less then, equal to, and greater then.

Orpheus, Thanatos, Messiah.
And don't forget that Minato, like Chu-Chu, died for your sins. Or apathy and nihilism. Whatever.
He's like a rockstar Jesus.

Who sleeps around.

A lot.

And drinks a hell of a lot of coffee.

And sings Karaoke.

And massacres armies of Shadows and Demons and shit.

Cool.

Wow. I just got hit by a really weird idea, and it won't get out of my head.

P3/Warhammer 40K

Yeah, you read that right.

The idea is that Shadows were the same as the Demons in earlier SMT works eventually lead to the idea that Shadows were Warhammer 40K demons, if a bit weaker (which could be explained away as a result of the time period).

Anyway, after watching this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtUltKDwsXY&feature=related

Specifically the part about 'even if it takes eons,' I got an idea that permanently burnt it's way into my head.

God-Emperor Minato.

So basically, Elizabeth eventually succeeds in saving Minato...right in time for everything to go to hell on Earth. Something I need a good time for, actually; Age of Strife or Dark Age of Technology? Which would work better? The former would throw him right into things, and the latter would give him sometime to adjust, which would probably make it more realistic and would fit more with the history of the Emperor.

Anyway, the looks like a job for the Emperor!

That'd probably be where the story kicks off.

The idea got stuck even further into my head when I remembered some stuff; it's been said that the spirit of the Emperor fights the Chaos Gods while his body is neither truely dead, nor truely alive. That just reminded me a lot of Minato and Nyx.

Speaking of which, what would Nyx be?

This idea was inspired by Nanoha's Hayate and her Book of Darkness, and the stuff that happened because of it.

For those who don't know, Hayate's Book of Darkness basically drained her magic to fill its pages, and will continue to do so until she dies. Realizing that, the Wolkenritter began stealing magic to fill it in her place (which caused a lot of problems and didn't really work, but that's not the point).

The idea is focused on Minato, since he works the best for this. At some point, which you can place in a number of time periods, his Persona begin to manifest and devour people/shadows/energy sources/whatever, or start attacking other Persona Users, because Minato is running out of power/lifeforce/hp/whatever. They do this without his knowledge (he might not even know about them).

This could easily be set after Death is sealed into him, after the Seal, or even after his Persona first awakens.

What kind of plot lines would a story like this have, though?

It could be interesting, especially when people realize exactly how powerful Minato's Persona's can get.

Another bit from the original idea:

"So it has truely come to this." The Avatar of Nyx said.

"It looks that may." Minato replied quietly.

"You realize there's only one way this can end, don't you?"

This time he didn't say anything; he just nodded.

"Very well, Minato; see if you can defeat me..."

His enormous sword began to glow and twist and writhe in his hand; shaping itself into something else.

"...In guitar battle!"

Minato didn't even flinch. He just pulled out his evoker and brought it to his head.

"Messiah!"

Messiah manifested above him. The persona narrowed his eyes, and each of the coffins by his side opened, revealing their contents.

Each held a single guitar. They looked as though they were made for light itself, and each look expertly crafted.

They lift into the air, seemingly of their own will, and for a moment were still.

But only for a moment.

The next, they collided with each out in a blinding flash of light. When the light faded, it revealed what wa left behind.

It looked like an X. The four guitars had merged together into something seemingly formed of stings and light and awesome.

Messiah caught it, and a glow appeared around Minato's hands. A moment later, he was holding an identical instrament. XX; Judgement.

"Ryoji..." He said. "Let's do this."

The Avatar of Nyx cracked his neck.

And so it was that the Son of God and Death itself did battle. On the rooftop of Tartarus in the middle of the night, in a place where time itself stood still, they fought.

The fate of the world was their prize.

Persona/Fate/Stay Night crossover.

This idea started to grow on me before I double checked and found that, sadly, Minato didn't create The World at the end of P3. But then I reminded myself that The World was still a canon Arcana, in P3 and other Persona games.

So here's the thing. As all FSN fans know, Archer made a contract with the World, and became a Counter Guardian.

But what could happen if Minato (I'm using him as a place holder, feel free to insert anyone able to use the World) did something involving Archer.

Several possibilties:

Archer a Minato's (very sentient and aware) Persona.

Minato temporarily/permanently severing Archer's bond with the World, and being able to keep Archer from getting screwed over, at least as long as Archer hangs out near him.

Doesn't really work outside the Grail War, but you could even have Minato summon Archer as his Servant (would work best with the actual Minato, since we know shit all about his past).

Any ideas on where a fic like this could go?

Idea: The Minato of Persona is Minato Namikaze reincarnated.

2nd idea: Minato plays, and starts influencing his Persona's through, an Arcana force Yu-gi-oh deck.

Also, as to the Warhammer idea, isn't Nyx supposed to be, according to The Answer, not the actual evil? I'd regard Nyx as a sort of third force in the balance of things.

I'd also give Minato a little time to adjust before everything goes to hell.

EDIT: 3rd idea: Much like Ryuugi's Warhammer 40k crossover idea, Elizabeth manages to free Minato.... but there are two catch's to this, the first being that Minato is brought back to Earth as a 10 year old, with a new identity, and the second, is that this is around the same time that a young Commander Shepard wouldve lived on Earth as an Earthborn.

Thats right, Minato is brought back as Minato Shepard. He'd probably be brought back in Japan, and there are many possabilities with what he could do with this.

Examples of this include either being given an Evoker (possibly his) by Elizabeth, making one from scratch (assuming he learned about the structure of an Evoker back in Persona 3) and possibly manages to find the old lab where Aigis now lives, having gone into a hibernative state in order to await a time when she is needed, Minato's arrival causing her to awaken. From there lots of possabilities are avalible: Will Minato and Aigis be able to convince the Earth Governments, and eventually the Council, that Aigis isn't technicly an AI... more accurately, she's evolved to be something more organic? (Hinted by the end of The Answer). Does Aigis still have the ability to use her persona after many years of not using it? Does Minato? What role does Minato play in all this, replacing Shepard? Will Minato change the timeline of Mass Effect? Is this connected in any way to the shadows?

Hm. This idea's a bit interesting so I'll expand on it a bit.

Another way of doing would be like this. N. Minato makes the usual fanon 'Work for the Shinigami deal' which, while better then spending the rest of eternity in someone's stomach, is still a shitty job. Even worse, it's a shitty job that just goes onand on and on.

And then something happens. Someone dies, but he doesn't die and a Goddess is locked in a box somehow. The gods check it out, see what's going on, and eventually come to the conclusion that they can't really do anything about it, it's better for them if Nyx is Seal, and A. Minato is kind of crucified to a wall, so a repeat performance is unlikely.

Of course, someone needs to keep an eye on the seal; if it starts breaking or something, the end result is 'Everyone Dies'. Even in the best case scenario, Minato just gets loose, meaning someone that can lock up Gods will be running around.

Either way, they'd want to know.

Since Minato's technically dead, the other gods petty much dump the responsibility on the Shinigami. Since watching a crucified statue gets old after about five minutes, the Shinigami dumped it on his lackey in turn.

And so N. Minato gets Statue gazing added to his list of responsibilities.

At one point, after a really bad day/wekk/month/year, N. Minato complains to his counterpart about how shitty their respective situations are. N will be stuck doing shitty jobs forever, A will be crucified to a wall for at least that long. And while their jobs are a bit less miserable now that they have someone to talk to, when you're both stuck forever, you run out of conversation topics fast.

Arisato listens, agrees, and decides to do something about it.

He breaks out the Universe Card.

Shortly there after, Shinigami-sama gets a Most Inconvenient Letter of Resignation (i.e. Fuck You, I Quit), Nyx gets something (or maybe she comes along for the ride), and the Minatos roll out like bros.

And what about Erebus? Hilarious as the idea sounds, Erebus will need to be dealt with beforehand.

Idea: Minato is not only bored, but by the time that The Answer is finished up, he's feeling sorry for having to have the others go on without him. Nyx on the other hand, as well as Erebus, are both just plain bored. So the three agree to have a contest, to break the bordome and in the case of Minato and Erebus, acheive a goal. If Minato wins, Erebus is to back down, disapear or otherwise make no move towards Nyx while Minato goes back to live a normal life with his friends, possibly returning to the seal before his death. If Nyx wins, nothing happens, Nyx playing the role of neutral party. If Erebus wins, Minato steps down as the seal, Erebus connects with Nyx and causes the Fall.

This is the basic bones of the idea. It will most likely be a crossover to prevent persona and Shadow based powers being used for unfair advantadges. An additional component that can be added to this is that of fourth and possibly fith and maybe sixth parties, drawn from other universe. The game will be based in another world, and could be anything from developing their own martial arts style in Ranma 1/2, seeing who can win the most duels in a Yugioh universe, or seeing which one of them can defeat the most Mario villians using food (the last one being off the top of my head).

The role of the extra parties can be anywhere from referees, to being extra competitors who can choose wiether or not to add their own wins with a certain party by the end.

This is an idea I am using, just thought I'd share it. The contest in my case being a Yugioh based one, with Laharl from Disgaea and Kotaro from the Kamen Rider Den-O movies as the extra parties. I plan to make this work too... hopefully.

Erebus is really only a problem in conjunction with Nyx. He's the sum of Humanities wish for death, which isn't a problem unless a Cosmic Horror starts listening to it.

Doing something about Nyx takes care of Erebus as well.

I just have to figure out what to do with Nyx.

Maybe convince Nyx it would be better to go have fun than it would be waiting behind a seal?

Just spotted this thread, so I'm transplanting my idea from the game ideas thread...

Idea number 1: Persona series/Firefly

The catastrophe at Miranda was the result of secret alliance tampering. The secret psychic experiments were done at the behest of the Alliance and the Blue Sun. Both were done in the interest of increasing order, peace, and control.

What's interesting is that neither of these disasters bore the hallmarks of politicians. They were too heavy-handed, too technological. Politicians work with words and people. They know how to be subtle, and how to control people by playing on their emotions. Miranda and the Academy didn't touch politics with a ten foot pole. No, these approaches bear the fingerprints of military officers who trust in weapons, soldiers and technology- not politics.

From this, and from the deep involvement of Blue Sun in the Academy, one could conclude that the Alliance is under heavy control or influence by the military industrial complex. Running off of that....

______________________________________________________________________

There were two reasons for the Unification War- Ideology and Greed. The demand put on the Alliance by the war fed the growth of corporations who could feed those demands. The Alliance government thought that the corporations were solidly under their control. It was thought that no matter how strong Blue Sun and their competitors grew, they still had to listen to the government, and there were laws in place to keep them from gaining undue influence on the government.

As it was with so many other things, the Alliance wrong. By the end of the Unification war, a tight alliance of wealthy businessmen and influential generals held much of the real power. When they discovered the power of psychic abilities and the strength of Persona that lied underneath it, the military jumped at the chance. But their hopes at creating reliable, unthinkingly loyal weapons were doomed. To control and call forth one's Persona, one must face their own flaws, their own fears, and the lies they tell themselves. This requires thought. As the Shinjo group once proved, one can force a person's Persona to manifest without soul searching. However, this comes at a cost to sanity, health, and control. But the Alliance keeps trying, and while success is evasive they make progress. They branch out, testing the limits of Persona, poking at the very fabric of reality and mind and looking for ways to exploit it. Then a young doctor rescues the Academy's most powerful reader, threatening to expose their deeds.

Meanwhile, age old forces stir. Mankind is judged as sinful, and marked for destruction. Philemon, Lord of Persona and the better nature of mankind incarnate, argues for mankind to be preserved. This is a stage, he says. Humans have forgotten the lessons of their past, and the tragedies and horrors that a sinful few commit will teach humanity the dangers of arrogance and the lust for power and control.

Nyarlahotep, avatar of the worst in humanity, argues for mankind to be preserved. As an avatar of humanity, their destruction is his own. What he says is that to destroy mankind now is too hasty. As in his bet with Philemon ages before, the better nature of mankind is likely to triumph, even with the deck stacked against them.

Lucifer, leader of Chaos, argues for mankind to be preserved. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, he says. Mankind's sins here stem from the desire for control, to force all others to submit to his will and live in peace. YWVH desired the same, as many of law followed him. Can we condemn man, he says, for a sin we have committed ourselves? Would it not be better to destroy only those who desire such control, instead of all human civilization?

YWVH, leader of Law, argues for Mankind to be preserved. Weakened and made less harsh over the years, he declares that it is not right judge mankind without a trial. One cannot be judged, he says, without a proper test. He points to Izanami, to Nyx, and to his own failures. If we do not make a test, he says, we will become the test, and pass or fail we suffer when mankind strikes against us in fear, rage, and desperation.

The beings of the demonworld sneer and call the four weaklings and fools. Caught up in dreams of remaking the mortal world, they set their plans into motion. Philemon, YWVH, Nyarlahotep, and Lucifer set thier own plans into motion, Plans to defend the Persona users awakened by demonic interference from Alliance and Blue Sun, and to unite them in the name of survival. And caught in these webs is a Firefly-class ship by the name of Serenity...

Hm, but wait. The Fourth sealed the Kyuubi's Yin Chakra inside of himself before letting the Shinigami eat him, right? How would that change things?
Technicly he gave the Yin Chakra to the Shinigami, sealed in his stomach like Orochimaru's arms. Don't think it would change him that much. Plus, do we really want to make him stronger? This is Minato, SS class Hokage witha flee on sight order that managed to create both the Rasengan and Hirashin in time for a ninja war. I mean yes, that isn't too impressive next to the power Persona's Minato has by the end, but The Universe is really a one time only technique and Persona's Minato is limited in range.

That looks like the end result of fusing Orpheus or Orpheus Telos with Thanatos... and possibly Messiah for good mesure.

Perhaps this is Shadow Minato using a dark-eyed version of Minato's body as a puppet, forcing Minato to actually need to step in or risk reality itself ripping apart?

It would fit, I can see connections to Death and Universe (the Shadow/Persona's main body) and Fool (The puppet Minato)

Perhaps instead of it being dealt with by Minato, it's dealt with by his friends instead, and it was created by their desires to have him back with them? Or something along those lines?

Now that I've seen the series in question, I'm surprised there haven't been any ideas for a Persona/JJBA crossover.
Given that I know next to nothing about Persona and just blasted through almost all of the JJBA series this week how would Stands measure up to Persona's.

Stands can do some heavy shit like a fucking universal reset, Time Stopping, Absolutely broken defenses, and account that most of the High Level Stands fight at FTL speeds/reaction times (No joking there).

I know at least that the Persona's can do some serious shit, given the broken bosses in the game from the Nintendo Hard section in TV Tropes.

Depends on the Persona (working from Persona 3 to Persona 4 here*). You can summon biblical figures like Satan, Lucifer and Metatron or mythological** ones like Surt, Scathach, and Thanatos. Obviously they have to be a bit weak for gameplay purposes but in storytelling I'd consider them to be the spiritual equivalent of a nuke.

Might be interesting seeing the protagonists from the SMT/Persona/Devil Survivor games duke it out with JJBA.

*Prior to Persona 3 they used demons.
** Not currently really worshiped.

Actually, I have a question. If your Persona is a reflection of your inner self, and taken from the sea of souls and a defence for your id and however else it's been fleshed out over the years . . .

. . . if your Persona was Succubus or Lillith, could you tap them? And would it be sex or just really complicated masturbation?

Tangentially, are there hard facts on how long a Persona can remain materialized? Because that could be a fun idea to explore, even outside of teh smex - Minato actually playing music alongside Orpheus, for example.

Hm. Hard time limits? I'm not sure. But Shinjirou's persona went wild, right? And that must have taken awhile; what it did isn't something that could be done in the usual second or two of manifestation. We also know Chihiro's persona could manifest long enough to attack her, so there's that, too.

However, if you managed to manifest them, as long as they had the proper anatomy, I don't see anything that would keep you from tapping that; we know for a fact that they're physical while manifested.

Also, DL: I can't see the pic you posted; do you have another link?

Of course, it has been admitted earlier in the series that your persona can be taken over by the original of itself.

This was noted in Persona 1, I believe, where The villain had the Persona Nyarlathotep, and the real Nyarlathotep took it, and by extension the villain, over.
