Good news everyone!

Completely uncalled for, man.

Didn't really care about the guy so I don't have an opinion on the guy but...

There's something about suggesting a mass circle-jerk on a guy's grave that strikes me as rather...hateful.

Agreed with RD. I mean, there's a limit to hate. While I'll be the first to admit I wouldn't mind if a certain person jumped off a cliff and became a splat on the ground, I'll keep my glee to myself if it happens, not post on a MB about it. This is rather tasteless.

"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say 'you helped this happen.'" (in refrence to 9/11)

"AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals."

"I hope to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we don't have public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them."

"If Chief Justice Warren and his associates had known GodÆs word and had desired to do the LordÆs will, I am quite confident that the 1954 decision would never have been madeà. The facilities should be separate. When God has drawn a line of distinction, we should not attempt to cross that line.ö (in refrence to the civil rights movement and intergration)

The man was evil, and had a a lot more sway with several US presidential administration then he should have. He's been directly responsible for having ignorant, intolerant people being placed in key positions of our government. He spoke against the civil right movement, and womens lib and was a supporter of apartheid in South Africa. This guy wasn't just any other demagogue, he had an actual impact on our way of life. I'm glad he's dead.

There's a difference between being glad someone's dead and posting a frickin' thread about it.

And both of those are a far cry away from suggesting a circle-jerk on his grave. I would never dream of saying he isn't wrong, but that doesn't mean you're right.

So just leave the damn thing alone and let him rot in his grave.

Tasteless? Maybe. But if anyone's death in recent years has deserved Celebration it's this dude.

"[Jimmy Carter's] message of peace and reconciliation under almost all circumstances is simply incompatible with Christian teachings as I interpret them. This 'turn the other cheek' business is all well and good but it's not what Jesus fought and died for. What we need to do is take the battle to the Muslim heathens and do unto them before they do unto us."

The man took Religious doctrine, and threw it out the window and preached what ever the hell he liked. He was really an intolerant racist asshole.

That's not enough to celebrate his death on the internet. What IS enough is the fact that this man has helped shape U.S. Policy, and what's more almost singlehandedly made the republican party into a mockery of what it once was.

here are some more quotations for you.

ôIf you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human beingö

ôThe whole (global warming) thing is created to destroy America's free enterprise system and our economic stabilityö

ôThe idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own countryö

ôAIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexualsö

"Christians, like slaves and soldiers, ask no questions. "

"Homosexuality is Satan's diabolical attack upon the family that will not only have a corrupting influence upon our next generation, but it will also bring down the wrath of God upon America. "

"Textbooks are Soviet propaganda. "

"There's been a concerted effort to steal Christmas."

That's to say nothing of his pro-segregationist policies and his warping of religious texts for his own purposes.

The dude needed to die. And I'm happy it happened.

Yeah, God forbid someone share their opinions on a message board in a section under "rants." I can see why that would be such a big deal. I am truly a horrible person, who will no doubt burn in hell for even suggesting that we all take turns turning this man's grave into one giant bukkake fest.

EDIT: This just got even better! Phelps will be picketing Falwell's funeral! http://www.godhatesamerica.com/

It would be funny is the ACLU was also picketing Falwell's funeral.

Can you imagine the interaction between those two groups?

I have no problem with the rant. Some people you just hate that much, and they deserve it. Hitler, Stalin, etc. Who the fuck cares if their graves are desecrated. Falwell is such a guy to many people.

Don't turn him into a martyr though. Such a thing would be as bad as anything he managed while alive.

Don't pay enough attention to know this guy, but good riddance.

As for me, I'll save that load for Jack Thompson, thanks.

I'm Pretty Sure Falwell hated Videogames too. But, I can't find a quote about it.

Yeah, probably. But he seems to have been more concerned with bigger issues.

I cannot say I care much either way, though I thought I'd post this somewhat relevent little snippet I caught just now in passing on the ZDNet RSS Feeds:

Feed: ZDNet
Title: Rev. Jerry Falwell was a Webcaster and Podcasterá Author: Russell Shaw

Regardless of what you think of Rev. Jerry Falwell, who died today:He was one of the leaders in making his sermons from the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va., available via broadband Internet, as well as downloadable Podcasts via the iTunes store. As with other clergy, used modern technology to spread what many regard as the ancient, everlasting word. The significance is that by making his sermons available to shut-ins as well as those who live afar from Lynchburg, Rev. Falwell enokited broadband and probably nurtured its acceptance and sign-up as well. Just goes to show how vital this medium is... and how net neutrality needs to be protected to ensure that all voices, opinions and beliefs are able...á

I'll just add this in for my two cents. I'm glad the guy's dead. I feel bad about that, but I'm still glad that he's dead.

But the circle-jerk bit, that crosses some ill defined line for me. Let the man die, and have history vilify him, but let him rot before we talk of doing anything to the grave.

Or at least wait until anyone that knew him is dead.

Men like Jerry Falwell represent almost every bit that's wrong with Christianity. I'm glad he's dead.

Thanks for the link; I've been napping for most of the last few hours and did not see it.

Well, hearing and reading about this guy makes me glad he'll be six feet under.

Here's the deal - I have nothing against religions of any kind. I respect the opinions of all religions and the people who practise them. I have friends who are religious and others who are not, and I respect all of them as they would respect my beliefs and myself. Overall, there is nothing wrong with religion.

But when intolerant and disrespectful fuckups use religion - something meant to simply guide and advise people on life - as a pretext for attacking others, they've lost all of my respect. I will not leave a shred of it for people like them. We're living in a new world now. If they don't like it and preach their twisted and perverted thoughts and beliefs, they should at least consider shutting up and taking themselves out of the world for everybody else's sake.

I suppose what I'm saying here is tasteless, but I've had enough of shit like this for far too long - people taking religion and abusing it for their own needs. In my opinion, there's something completely disgusting and sick about the things people like him do. But, as a few others may have mentioned in this thread, I think it's best to leave the topic be. Yes, the bastard's dead - go team, go - now let's just go on with our lives and let him rot in his grave. Piss, cum, or whatever - he's dead now, and if he caused enough attention when he was alive, it's best not to give him any more especially after he's dead.

But, I'll save my real tap dancing and bukkake-fest for when Fred Phelps and the rest of his 'clan' gets stomped to death by American soldiers returning home from Iraq.

See, I hate Phelps too, but there's something that you need to realize... Phelps is crazy, and EVERYONE knows it... Falwell, on the other hand, hand thousands of people eating up his bullshit. Falwell was actually having a negative impact on the world, where as Phelps is just a giant fucking douche who delights in spreading misery.

I've never even heard about this guy before so I don't really care. I looked at his entry at Wikipedia and yeah, I'm glad he's dead.

The man was not only a bigot, he was an attention whore (e.g. Podcasts).

If you want to truly make his death a thing of justice, ignore that he ever existed.

That is all.
