The games not being allowed to have a full orchestral version of his music is something he bargained with from Square-Enix waay back in the NES era. The publisher (Square/Enix) agreed to let him keep the rights to the orchestral versions of his music for all future games too, thinking that, well, the NES could not handle that kind of sound, so why bother? The composer, Koichi, made a lot of money as a result from live performances.

Not to say I agree with his political views, but he was a Japanese citizen who believed his views would lead to Japan's prosperity - as far as I can tell, he held those beliefs for a long time. That is something worth respecting. Again - not agreeing with him, but it is worth respecting.
