Hardest game you have ever played?

We all have been bound to have played at least one game, so difficult or simply, so annoying that it has made you want to kill yourself or something for not being able to beat it. We've all been there. For awhile, I had Halo/Halo 2 on Legendary, Halo 2 I have not yet beaten due to a lack of commitment to actually play (got to Outskirts, got past all the one-shot KO Jackal snipers with a bit of ease, but got sidetracked trying to find the IWHBYD Skull - y'know, stuff like that). I have now found my nemesis..

Abadox.

Most of you might have watched the videos from Gamespot of 'masoumi' and his unsuccessful attempts at trying to play Abadox, and so have I. I heard he eventually beat it, but the general knowledge of the game being at a nigh-legendary amount of difficulty was made well known. So, I figured, hey, this doesn't seem too bad. I decided to give it a try.

...

I spent three days trying to beat the first level. THREE DAYS. I could have been writing during that time, but no, I was trying to get past the first level of the game. I don't know what makes it so hard - I just can't put my finger on it, but it freaking irritates me. I'm currently on stage 3, or whatever the hell it is called, my shirt is soaking in sweat from a combination of the heat wave around my area and from having to constantly dodge all the little enemy...balls...things...whatever the freakin' hell they are called...When I close my eyes, I can see myself fruitlessly trying to dodge and shoot at those alien...enemy...things...ARRAGH!!

Damn you, Abadox! Leave me alone! Stop taunting me! AAARRRHH!!

/rant

So, what about everybody else here? Any horror stories to swap? Any achievements or noble failures? Discuss.

Ugh, not this, I knew it was coming, but still hoped it wouldn't, I had hoped ot never again have to remember the horror but it appears I will again have to pull it from my memory, I have only four words for this topic. Rayman, PS1, music stage.

Hardest game? Hmm. Let me think...

MGS training mission. Not the game itself (which was rediculously easy IMO). Unlike the game itself, you get caught once, back to the beginning! UGH!

FF8? It actually wasn't the hardest game in the normal sense, it was just too rediculously tedius that I didn't feel like continuing.

The original SNES Castlevania? Pretty hard game in my book (the only reason why I'm not 'frustrated' with it per say was the fact that the emulators, you can save!). ^_^

Well, that's my list that I could think of for now.

Shinobi. I rented this once, and never beat the first stage. Everyone said it was a great game, but I couldn't even PLAY it. I hated it, I couldn't beat the first boss no matter what.

Atomic Runner. Unless we count games that are flawed and can not be beaten without cheating. (NES Battletoads, I'm looking at you)

7th Saga. That game was pure Hell, and FORCED you to pick Valsu as an ally or at least knock him out early on, otherwise the duel with him was flat out impossible.

Another good candidate was probably Wizardry III. Or any Wizardry before 5, realluy. Gooo, ninja instagib.

Morrowind and KOTR, the games weren't hard by themselves but add to it my slow moving computer and you have a recepy for dezaster. I managed to finish them but it was taxing.

I'll second that vote for Shinobi. I finally got to rent the sucker (was always out of stock) two weeks ago, but I couldn't play it. The shadow-dashing controls are so unintuitive that it drove me to distraction.

I hear Ninja Gaiden: Black is about as bad, if not worse, but I have no Xbox to play it on.

Oh, and Devil May Cry 3 eats souls.

Personally I liked the original NES Ninja Gaiden... the pixels will forever will rule you!

Had to re-start over and over and over and over, even more the closer i got to Jacquio @.@

Anyone remember Faxanadu?... i do, not to fondly

Pretty much any shooting game by Raizing falls in this category for me--Battle Garegga, Armed Police Batrider, Dimahoo, 1944. I'm not especially good at shooters, but I can hold my own in most of them. But Raizing games just kick my ass mercilessly.

Well, hell, now that you bring up shmups, that's a whole new can of worms.

Pretty much any shmup referred to as a "Manic Shooter" game (or in some circles, "Bullet Hell") kicks my ass royally, with the notable exceptions of Giga Wing and Progear.

ESP Ra.De nearly brought me to tears.

ZOMG!

I beat Abadox! w00tness!

Hah, I can now sleep soundly knowing that I have succeeded at something at least. Abadox shall taunt me no more - I have beaten you~!

All that's left now is Halo 2 on Legendary. If it weren't for the fact that Bungie borked the game by adding one shot kill Jackal snipers, it wouldn't have been too bad to go through.

I've played Shinobi, and I've played Ninja Gaiden: Black. Ninja Gaiden is about the same difficulty as Shinobi on Hard... on Ninja Gaiden's easiest difficulty. Even the thought of trying Ninja Gaiden on Master Ninja makes me curl up in the fetal position.

For oldies, Battletoads was a fucking nightmare.

I played Ninja Gaiden: Black. I also played Nightshade.

Believe it or not, they managed to make Nightshade's Easy difficulty HARDER than NG's Normal difficulty. And I haven't even tried the harder difficulties in Nightshade.

Now I really want to find a copy of Nightshade.

By the way, Battletoads was fucking easy for me until the bike race stage.

The game is pathetically easy until the bike race stage. Then the difficulty increases a hundredfold for the rest of the game.

A few years back me and my cousin spent about three weeks trying to beating all the old Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Sega games we had. I know we played battletoads several times, but not sure we ever beat it or not, it's been to long. Though I'm pretty sure we managed to beat Alter(ed?) Beast and a few other annoying ones back before the ability to save was invented.
