Has there ever been a crossover between Harry Potter and Matilda? Could be interesting, no?

I'm not aware of any.

As far as I remember though, Matilda's powers weren't magic of any nature -- they were like psychic energy that bled off and went away when she started taking the advanced classes. She simply couldn't access the power any more at all, because all her concentration was on her schoolwork.

I may be remembering wrong, though, as I haven't read the book in probably at least sixteen years.

With Matilda it was a combination of her intelligence and the way almost everyone treated her.

If you're going by the book, yes, those are spot on.

A lack of challenge (becuase she was simply too intelligent for the classwork at her age to be anything other than boring) seemed to be the original cause, with her treatment by her parents, brother and headmistress acting as a trigger.

With the trigger gone, and the bordem removed (she was moved into the advanced classes after being adopted by Miss Honey, who took over as headmistress, IIRC) her powers went away on their own (though the movie suggests they didn't entirely disappear, in the book Matilda states that she tried to use them again and couldn't)

I thought I remembered her doing something the end and leaves it open to whether or not she still had them.

In the movie it moves it more to the fact that she just doesn't need them anymore. At the end, she uses them to move a book to her. The book goes back that she is just more devoted to other things in her life.

You know, the first moment I read Matilda, I thought ...

... hey, waitaminute, that could actually work!

Now we just need to find some reason to bring the namesake from THIS to Surrey, maybe on a contract or something. After that? Abusive family hook. Line. Sinker.

Heh, that would be fairly cool.

Would she be the child assassin, or a grown-up version?

Depends on where you want to go with this. It would be fairly amusing either way, with the tone set by a grown up (well, older than Harry at the time) Mathilda being just as potentially serious, but in a different manner.

For absolute crack value, have it be a twelve/thirteen year old Mathilda and an eleven year old Harry departing from Surrey.

Five years later, and coming back from a spot of nastiness in good old Italy with associates Kirika and Mireille, they're contracted by the Delacour family to avenge the death of their daughter (you pick which) at the hands of some British megalomaniac calling himself 'Flight of Death' or whatever ...

... yeah, something like that.

PS. I really need to finally watch Noir one of these days.

You know, on the AnimeAddventure, there's an HP/Noir cross that's actually readable. It also includes Read or Die.

I'll get a link.

Here we go: Harry Potter-Bouquet
