Harry Potter Hermione's Parents

For all the fanfiction I've read, there isn't all that much done with Hermione's parents. For the most part, they remain happily married dentists who have either very little influence on the story or provide emotional support for Harry at some point. Occasionally, Hermione will have a sibling, or things will be shaken up, but for the most part, things follow this quitre closely.

TO me, this seem like a travesty. We have completely blank slates that could easily be used to redefine Hermione's backstory, or provide new avenues of character development, either in an adventure, or a character examinatiuon setting, so why aren't we using them?

So: Hermione, when asked about her parents, defaults to one of the most boring/uninteresting jobs she can think of so people don't bother asking questions. In actuality, her parents are...



-Serial Killers
Hermione's dad is known as a modern day Jack the Ripper, and her mother makes Bellatrix look sane. Despite this,m they were extremely loving parents, though they often disappeared on "business trips" for weeks at a time. Eventually, her father was caught, and her mother vanished, leaving her the care of her grandmother/aunt.


-Witch and Wizard.
Once Voldemort rose to power, the Grangers fled the wizarding world, and swore never to return. They kept their wands in case they happened to be attacked, but for the most part abandoned it completely, perhaps even faking their deaths. They aren't surprised by Hermione's magic, and buy her a few books that they wish they had read when they were her age, to help her along. Unfortunately, once Voldemort returns and Hermione tells them all about it, they have to make a choice...


-Porn Stars
Hermione's parents are perfectly normal, loving people, but their job... Well, better to just tell a simple lie than deal with the embarrassment of it. Unfortunately, her friends have met her parents a few times, enough to recognize them somewhat, and as they get older, a few of the muggleborns manage to get a hold of one of their more well known films...



The list of possibilities goes on and on. Though these would generally focus on Hermione, used correctly, they could provide an interesting plot twist or if done correctly, an entirely new direction for the story. At the very least, throwing out possible ideas would be fun.

So, who else had a few ideas on who Hermione's Parents really are?

I remember one fic, it was a crossover where Harry went to live with his uncle James, where her father was Jaws from the Spy Who Loved Me, which fit in with the whole dentist thing. And another James Bond cross where her parents were assassins for hire and she and them constantly kept running up against Harry and James on missions. It was rather entertaining. Both of them actually.

I could see Hermione's parents being porn stars. It's be funny as hell, watching her try to explain to her friends (the half-bloods and purebloods especially) what they do for a living.

I can see Lavender taking notes on positions and techniques, while Neville keeps blushing harder and harder til he finally passes out.

First one was from Chilord's Fragmented Ideas. Jaws was rather wary of Harry, considering James track record. It also had James being listed as the potential guardians for 5 other people.

The second one... well I remember Harry and Hermione developping a fierce rivalry in that one. Don't quite remember who wrote it though.

As for possible career for Hermione's parents... Former R&D for the goverment?

Hermione had been dreading this moment for years. her parents had always been open about this sort of thing with her, though they did gloss over a number of details until they felt she was emotionally mature enough to handle them.

Knowing what she did abotu boys, she knew it was only a matter of time before they found out her parents weren't actually dentists, and it seemed the cat was out of the bag.

She looked at Dean's shocked expression, watching as the blush spread across his face and body in a manner that would do a Weasley proud.

To make things worse, her mother caught his reaction, and with a saucy wink at her daughter, walked over to the shocked young boy, and buried him in her chest.

"You must be Dean! Hermione has told me so much about you I feel like I've known you for years! It's a pleasure to finally meet you!"

The young boy's mother bustled over to see who this woman was, but Hermion's mom quickly smoothed it over and began chatting merrily with her. Dean continued to stare in Silence, and was soon joined in his gaping by his father. Hermione watched in utter shame as her mother kissed him in greeting, before motioning her own husband to join them.

The Thomas men paled as they recognized him as well. While Dr. Granger was an easy going man most of the time, when his wife decided to have some fun with her fans, he had a tendency to put his own game face on as well, doing his level best to intimidate them. Tey quickly gestured Hermione to join them, and having no other choice, she reluctantly walked over.

She was so embarrassed, she didn't even notice when her mother slipped a few signed copies of her favorite works, along with an exhaustive, in depth note about the birds and the bees, and the best way to encourage some "pollination."

Could go a number of different directions with this. Maybe it's a sex cult, maybe they spend their weekends shouting the end is near, or maybe they just believe in Xenu. Hermione may or may not be a member of the cult, depends on how someone wants to write it.

Well, Hermione's father at least had a bit more prominent role in the very first draft of HP. Since he crossed the strait to an island, maybe he's a sailor of some sort.

Hermione was born on Pirate's Day, so her parents are obviously Pirates :rofl:

That's fairly interesting idea with tremendous crackfic potential. If slight anachronisms aren't a bother one could just have her parents & possibly Hermione herself behave like ultra-progressives, greatest cult of our time.

Alternatively full-blown comedy route with Grangers searching for messiah that will rekindle glory of Byzantium or something equally silly. As wizarding culture is lot more tolerant when it comes to crazy, she might even get some of her classmates to buy it. Or whatever their cult obsesses with could turn out to be true but hidden from muggles.

I remember a snippet where Harry travels back in time and ends up being Hermoine's dad. I thought that was pretty cool.

Wonder if there are any stories that take it further. Harry and Hermione travel back in time, and end up adopting a younger Hermione. Would be a funny one shot, at least.
