HP/MSN cross

This is a simple one:

Write a story where Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived, encounters Negi Springfield, the son of the Thousand Master, and his Pactio partners.

Heh... I always thought MSN was short for Martian Successor Nadesico, not Negima. At least, that was my thought when reading this title. No matter.

What kind of response are you looking for?

Harry gets jealous relatively easily, to be honest. But at the same time, his life is not nearly as crazy as Negi's, so he might be thankful for that.

And, no matter how old he is, he doesn't really match up to Negi skill wise, or achievement wise. Chances are that he'd feel like he was in Negi's shadow.

As far as characters go, all Harry would have to add is being another famous mage - and Negi had plenty of those in his life already.

A thought comes to me now:

What if Lord Voldemort makes a deal with a returned Graf Hermann, and the word gets out, due to an unusually benevolent Severus Snape? Dumbledore (it'd be set prior to HBP) calls in a favour from an old friend (The Magus of Negi's school), and Negi and pals take time out from searching for Nagi to come and help TBWL and co.

Just a thought.

And Negi's gang then proves how helpless Harry Potter, his friends, and Voldemort and the Death Eaters are. The problem is finding a way that harry doesn't get overshadowed by a large cast of characters who are by and large more interesting and more powerful.

:huh.:

I won't pretend that I know the answer. I just simply thought it'd be interesting if Negi Springfield (who is like a smaller, more kawaii version of Harry from Harry Potter and the Philosophers' Stone) were to meet his troubled inspiration.

The image of Evangeline and Chachamaru browbeating Hermione, or Haruna and Luna creating all sorts of weird and wonderful creatures with Harunas' Pactio artifact; I find that giggle-worthy.

The focus should probably be on the characters, not action. Once fighting is involved it will be revealed just how worthless Harry Potter style magic is. That would cause a signifigant number of people to be worthless to the story. You should also decide who shows up. Negi's entire class is too large for such a crossover to work.

Just the Ala Alba, I was thinking. Which is to say:

Asuna
Konoka
Haruna
K Fei
Setsuna
Evangeline
Negi (obviously)
Nodoka
Chachamaru
Kaede
Yue
Chisame
Kazumi
Sayo

Or some combination of the above, as 14 characters (15 if you include Kotaro) is rather a lot...

Just a thought. I always see people putting down Harry Potter-style magic and calling it weak and other stuff like that. While it is not as flashy or DBZ-style-blow-stuff-up poweful as in MSN, it is quite powerful in its own right.

I will grant that it is not as combat specialized as Negima-style magic. I think of Potter-magic as being more subtle in nature. Not to mention more versatile. I mean those little wands are easily concealable and spells can be let off with a single word and gesture, rather than the long(er) chants used by Negi and co. Plus, Wizard magic seems more geared toward replacing technology in everyday life wheras Negima Magisters are more integrated with the modern world.

Plus, I don't see Negi and company apparating, totally paralyzing their opponents, turning invisible, or any of the other impressive feats detailed in the Harry Potter Books. On top of that, Potter-Magic doesn't seem to wipe out its users as much as Negima magic does its.

If people are worried about Negi and Harry interacting, how about Negi takes Harry under his wing? Or, in his mad rush to avoid the Hogwarts letters (First Book) Vernon Dursley ends up in Wales and Harry meets Negi before he graduates?

Just a few ideas.

It's not that HP magic is weak. Negima's is way stronger. That, and most of the magicians from Negima don't depend only on their spells. Most of them have a great skill on martial arts and hand-to-hand combat. And at this point of the manga, Negi doesn't need to chant the spell anymore.

Paralizing? Cursed Evangeline can do it easily. Invisibility? Sayo can do it. Actually, she does it all the time. And the only time when somebody from Negima ran out of magic/mana, was in the Negi vs Chao fight, and that was rare (Negi used a lot of his MP to travel back in time, and fought her for a long time; Chao isn't a natural magic user, so her reserves are very limited). And Negi can fly 1000 Km. in just one hour. I don't think Harry can do that.

And finally, I really don't think Harry would stand a chance against Negi's rivals (Evangeline, Chigusa, Hermann, Chao, Fate, etc), Hell, I don't think the most powerful wizard from the HP universe could compare to Eva, Chao or Fate.
