Insane yet bad-ass

I'm trying to compose a list of about 20 manga and anime characters who are somewhat insane, or megalomaniacs, yet because of that, they are even more awesome. I also want them to be ranked. So far I only have Three definite names. So please, give me the character's name and the manga/anime he or she belongs to, that you wish to add to the list. And afterwards, we can rank them!

Lelouch Vi Britania; Code Geass
- He is a little insane, but more of a glorious bastard. But who here doens't remember his maniacal laughter, seeing how his strategy wiped out entire armies, or ordering battalions of enemy special agents to commit suicide...

Johan Faust VIII; Shaman King
- Having lost his wife to a murderer, he forsake his clinic and studied necromancy. Before joining Yoh after receiving the method to bind Eliza's soul to earth as well (probably becoming the TRUE Necrophiliac) he was cheerfully cutting up little boys because he thought they might have a rare bone disease, and cut out his own bones after they were broken, so he could replace them with a similar bone taken from conveniently placed corpses. Morphine addict as well. Cut off his own legs but now walks on the cut-in-half skeleton of his little doggie Frankensteiny.

Alucard; Hellsing
- The vampire Dracula, after being bound to the Hellsing Line. He never dodges bullets - He regenerates. He doesn't need a scope - He shoots in pitch-black darkness a mile away with heavy, heavy ammo. Transforms into monster dogs, flocks of bats, likes to push his hand through vampie hearts, and enjoys nothing more that a grandscale slaughter. Seems to only be happy when people are taking potshots at him and he gets to rip them to shreds (before taking a break to lick down all that delicious crimson liquid, even from the ground)

Jack Frost from Jack Frost. Depending on how the story he goes he's either just as crazy and awesome as Alucard or just pretentious.

Hmmm...

Katsuhiko Jinnai aka Lord God Jinnai; El Hazard and Wanderers

Gauron; Full Metal Panic

Bean; Bean Bandit

Shizuka Tsuzaki; Jinki Extend

Gendo Ikari; Neon Genesis Evangelion

Celestiine; Ah/Oh My Goddess

Ashram; Record of the Lodoss Wars

Faust; Saber Marionette J

Fibrizzo and Gaav; Slayers

Washu & Kagato; Tenchi Muyo

Lord Shishio; Kenshin

Bean Bandit doesn't strike me as insane. He's definitely badass, but he isn't crazy. His bodybuilding habits have to be crazy for him to be able to wear that jacket of his (Moose leather and ceramic armor plating. A thief breaking into his home dropped the jacket on her foot and ended up with several broken bones as a result), but I don't think that counts.

How about Zekka from Last Order?

He's a top of the line cyborg karate-ka that drives through space on a tricked out motorcycle, is regarded as an urban myth by most and has apparently transcended Newtonian physics;he engages in a thumb war so powerful it KILLS heavily armoured soldiers standing nearby and punched a man so hard he gained enlightenment.

He's now aiding in overthrowing LADDER for the lulz.

Well if it's anime Insane Badass, I'd have to give my vote to Akumetsu

I find the lack of Getter Team in this thread facepalm inducing.

Other candidates:

Dark Schneider (Bastard!!) should be on the list - he did try to take over the world out of boredom.

Dilandau from Escaflowne was also batshit insane, but there are reasons for that.

Also, various members of the Zabi family from Gundam.

Also Bask Om, he did order the deaths of countless people.

Hmm... the only one at the moment who possibly counts in my mind is

Rukudo Mukuro from Reborn!

At least.. to me he's insane, but then that might just be me...

The Zabi members who were insane weren't bad-ass. Likewise, the bad-ass weren't insane.

Eat machine gun bullets, Gundam!

And though the Titans lose a lot of points for having a fag like Jerid in them, Yazan and Scirocco probably both count as insane and bad-ass.

I'd vote Alucard, followed by Dark Schneider then Zekka.

Sure DS and Zekka have more destructive potential but they can still die. In Zekka's case, he's most likely going to be surpassed by a 2-year old cyborg that just had a gender change and is modeled after the series' protagonist.

Post-Hellsing Alucard literally cannot die. He has become a theoretical being capable of existing wherever he wants. Plus the entire manga was basically one giant CMOA for him. Volume 9 alone had him consume all of the living/dead in London simultaneously (with the exception of some iscariot and hellsing members) after saying "I'm hungry".

Then theres his spending most of WW2 as a little girl, using that form later to mock Walter, his insane rants, his sheer inhumanity, the incident in the hotel vs the special ops team + Dandyman, The entire scene with him vs. Luke Valentine...

DS does it on a grander scale, but once the series started adding angels and devils it became the seinen equivalent of Dbz.

Also, it helps that Hellsing's mangaka is funny. All his doodles and songs/rants on boobs....

Also:
Roberta from Black Lagoon. When she went nuts she drew everyone in with her.
Asakura Hao from Shaman King.
Desty Nova from Battle Angel Alita/Gunnm - You can kill him. He'll be back in a day.
Raito/Light from Death Note
M.D. Geist - He took the planet with him.
Akumetsu from Akumetsu. He's like a suicidal batman that can die infinitely.
Onizuka - Great Teacher Onizuka
Knives - Trigun
Legato Bluesommers - Trigun

Roberta: Run fucker! Oh wait... uh.. dont run you'll die tired.

GTO: Fuck yes! He is insane but so badass. Bullets wont kill him! HE IS IMMORTAL!

Eh... I guess you can make the argument that Alucard is insane.

Kamina (Gurren Lagann)
Megatron/Galvatron (G1 incarnation of Transformers, the rest were pretty lame, except Beast Wars Megatron and while these were originally American toons brought to Japan, the toys were originally Japanese and the concept, so it counts)
The Question (Justice League Unlimited version, but may not count if anime/manga only)
Lina Inverse (Really, blowing stuff up because your food was spilled? For that matter, Xelloss and Phibrizo count too)

The original Getter team, especially Hayato, definitely takes the cake.

Yazan Gable and Ple-Two also count, while Scirocco was more a visionary than insane.

Dilandau Albatou was already mentioned, and frankly, he makes Alucard look sane.

As for Zeon, at the very least Dozle Zabi was both badass and insane, what with scaring Amuro silly through pure badass aura while shooting him with a machinegun on top of an exploding Mobile Armor.

Oh, and for the female side... Katejina Loos. Just... Katejina Loos.

Hellmaster Fibrizo and Copy-Rezo fit this, but not Xellos. Greater Beast and her servant don't come off as being megalomaniacal.

Arguably, Dynast Grausherra, Lei Magnus and Rezo himself might qualify...though Rezo's actions in Evolution-R prove to be more noble than megalomaniacal.

Argh, can't believe I forgot. Insane and Badass? Gilgamesh from Fate Stay Night qualifies, multiple times in both categories.

Jinnai has the madness part down, but he's not a bad ass.
He pretty much takes over the Bugrom empire and only loses because said Bugrom stink at following orders and Diva is nosy.

Yeah, Jinnai is badass.

I agree that most of the Hellsing cast is insane, and many of them are Badd-ass. Walter turned out to be insane, but he always was bad-ass. Integra, she's not entirely sane either. And surprisingly bad-ass. Anderson; VEEEEERY insane, and very bad-ass. Millenium as a whole is insane, with all the not-nameless or rankless characters as pretty bad-ass. Even Policegirl Ceras turned bad-ass in the end, and she used to be surprisingly sane. But when she was sane she wasn't quite as bad-ass. So apparently in Hellsing you turn bad-ass when you lose your sanity. Except possibly Maxwell, who was always somewhat insane, and a bit bad-ass, but in the end he went batshitcrazy and not bad-ass at all. I guess there ARE limits...
