IRON FIC 1: The world doesnÆt have to make sense.

Welcome, fanfiction fans and ficcers, to the first weekly IRON FIC contest! ItÆs a beautiful day here at the TFF Academy City Hawk Memorial Stadium, without a cloud in sight! The weather is almost as good as our line-up of writers today, a fantastic group gathered from every corner of the world, representing the best of TFFs creative authors!

Before I start (people who want to get a move on can jump down to the quote box), IÆd like to thank some people who helped make this happen. First off, without Chairman Kaga to make Iron Chef, I wouldnÆt be holding this competition. Similarly, without the Gibberlings 3 modding community, I never would have thought to apply it to fanworks.

IÆd like to thank jwzipline, for listening to my plans (not that heÆs ever going to read this, not being a TFFer), and image (who is a TFFer) for helping me come up with todayÆs theme. IÆd like to thank Hawk for existing, and creating TFF, without which we wouldnÆt be holding this contest!

IÆd also like to thank rukia, for providing free beer to everyone in the stadium! Who knew that one personÆs alcohol stash could cover eight thousandùwait, is that a helicopter? OH SHI--

Without further ado, let this contestÆs mystery ingredient be announced!

The world doesnÆt make sense.? I know people who say that the purpose of life is to bring order to an orderless universe.? In our realms of fantasy, often we cry ôThis plot/character/scenario doesnÆt make sense!ö

Well, the world doesnÆt have to make sense.? Our world is a place where the dreams and stories of individuals reshape our lives, while a million other dreamers take inspiration from them and create the dreams of tomorrow for us.? Our world is filled with wonders and mysteries, acts of God and nature that we cannot comprehend or appreciate.? And thatÆs a good thing.

So letÆs have stories about our favorite characters thrown into a nonsensical wonderland, alien and fantastic.? LetÆs read stories about adventure and growing up and going on.? Just keep in mindùthe world doesnÆt have to make sense to be worth living in.
I realize that this is a bit of a stretch for our first challenge, but IÆm sure that all of our fantastic participants are more than capable of rising to the occasion. Have fun, and let the IRON FIC competitionà BEGIN!

I feel tears coming on. Really I do.

Mereo, thanks for participating, I'll let you know what I've got planned.

To everyone who said they'd participate, but didn't, I have one thing to say here that I can't because of network censoring.

Well, no. Just kidding. But I am hugely dissappointed.

To those of you who let me know before the contest started that you would be unable to participate, thank you and I hope to see you next week.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: Iron Fic 1 is now closed.

Him getting mad at us feels kinda hollow if he breaks his own rules too. : P

According to the rules, it's now closed. End of story. No winners, no losers. We'll have to wait until Iron Fic 2 to try again.

Hey, I said <s>no one else had entered so--</s> HOLY HELL AJT SUBMITTED SOMETHING.

*ahem*

Well, this changes things. >.>

EDIT: Wait, no. Sorry AJT, friend of mine reminded me to stick to the rules. I can't allow your fic to be in the running. Sorry.

Well Wata... To be honest, I couldn't ask you to break your own rules just for me. I missed the deadline, ergo, I missed out. So, I withdraw my request.

It's up to you whether or not to allow an exception. If you did though, it might lead to a whole landslide of exceptions. Unless it's simply a matter of a grace period for submissions or extra-special circumstances as dictated by you and the other judges.

So, again, request withdrawn. I'd like to be considered for the contest, but again, it is up to you and the other judges.

EDIT: Understood. I'll just wait until the next contest then. ^__^

Well...anyway I'm writing up some judgement right now, on both fics. Wata's word on what's in the running gives the final decision, but damn I'm enjoying writing about those two amazing stories.

Well, even though this doesn't really count, I at least feel like a winner.

Ah ah ah. Now, when did I say that?

By virtue of being the only participant who entered the contest on time, Mereo Flere is this week's Iron Ficcer.

But that's pretty lame. So, Mereo and Akina's stories will be judged next week. Also, AJT just told me that his was done before the deadline but his major life-changing event got in the way of posting it, so if the community doesn't go RAEGHAET, his will be judged next week as well.

*ahem*

After a rather dissappointing conclusion, followed by two pleasant surprises, this weeks Iron Fic has been declared void due to no contest. However, Mereo Flere, for his excellent Code Geass story, remains this weeks Iron Ficcer, and the writer to beat next week.

Tune in next time, for a contest that might actually get off the ground, and to really discover the identity of The Fanfiction Forum's IRON FICCER!

.....oh well..then I will just send the authors my comments per PM :p

Leave it to Wata to steal the Cuizine from the show

PS. since next week still works with those...I think I will let you stew a bit longer and to add more cuisine to it ;)

Oh, come on. You can't imagine that I'd let the chance to ham it up get away from me, did you? ;)

Go ahead and send the authors your comments, but send me a copy too. We'll go over all of the commentary sometime.

Yeah, just got it. ^_^

Akina also has an entry to submit. He also finished on time, but my inability to communicate in English made him hold off on posting it.

Shame I missed this. I haven't really been paying attention on TFF, fic wise.

When's the next one coming out? It looks like fun. I'll throw my hat in if I'm not being worked to death.

Watashiwa. Next time you pick a date make sure there isn't any Super GT on that day.

You made me miss this round.. The next one is in June.

I'll remember this.

Oh, fine. It's my fault you decided to write for my awesome contest instead of watch some stupid race? You're in charge of your own damn hobbies.

@Zephyrus: I'll have an Iron Fic contest every Saturday from now until I get bored of it/people get too busy. Lots of chances to try your hand.

Watashiwa-senpai, isn't it a bit of a stretch to expect a good crop if the post for the prompt has only been up for two hours? It takes some people, me included, eight hours to get on the site and then come back, and if your prompt is posted in that time we'll miss out on the contest for not good reason. Not to intrude, but just a suggestion, how about twelve hours or twenty-four instead, or at least annouce a time so that we'll all know when to log on.

There needs to be a longer period than four hours. Considering the time lag on the forum itself, in addition to the global distribution of TFFers, four hours is just not enough.

Case-in-point, look what happened this round. Three fourths of the contestants dropped out due to unknown IRL surprises, at least two fumbled the ball on account of the vague start time, and only one person managed to actually submit something within the legal time range.

Clearly, some changes need to be made.

IMO, it being an all-day event works much better. You decide on a set time either Friday night or Saturday morning, using an actual IRL timezone as the designated 'stopwatch' for the contests. You would post the theme at or around that time, and the contestants would have twenty-four hours to create and submit a oneshot of that theme. That gives enough time for everyone to be 'on the same page' so to speak, and the twenty-four hour period still gives ample time to work on it even if something unexpected IRL interferes.

That's just my two cents, though.

I agree. This Link will work for conversions; it's pretty easy. Just make sure we know what time zone Wata posted in so we can convert.

EDIT: Case in point about why this is needed: forum clock shows this post at 6:14 AM. It's 1:14 here. Far beyond the time limit for Ironfic.

I'll have to agree with Raine on this one. I only managed to be lucky enough to find out about the contest right before it started. Had I slept in, I probably would have missed it entirely.

That said, I like challenges like these. It gives people a reason to write, even if it's not that long; not everything has to be a massive multi-chaptered monstrosity, after all.

Halibel? I did state a time. 2:00p, US Eastern Standard time.

In fact, I posted this time twice, and made a post post eleven hours before, announcing the fact that in eleven hours I would disclose the theme.

And I apologize that I can't make this easier for people who live in time zones that are the polar opposite of mine. Somewhere in the world, an otherwise interested TFFer is going to be unable to participate. The solution to this will be to vary the times that the challenges are announced. Of course, the announcement as to the date/time was made a week ago, and I recieved not a single complaint from a member unable to participate due to the need for sleep in the intervening week.

Lastly, the four hour time limit is supposed to be difficult to meet. This is a challenge, in the literal sense, a chance for people to push their writing ability.

@LR: See above. Fair? No. The rules? Yes.

I'm not giving people a twenty-four hour period of time to write a fic. That's easy.

I will, however, make "midnight runs", that is Iron Fic challenges that come at a time inconvenient for me, but accessible to TFFers who are not in my timezone.

And you think that four hours is bad? The inspiration for this contest is the Baldur's Gate "Iron Modder" contest, in which participants have two hours to design a complete mod to Baldur's Gate 2, a game which was never supposed to be modded.

Small blessings, neh?

EDIT: Halibel... the forum clock is set by you. >.>

If it's off, it's your own fault. :p
